partnership will benefit organizations like habitat for humanity. humanity. we've been successful the majority of years, the last 10, 15 years.now iowa city is accepting fiscal year 2017 applications.patton wants to try again. again. we apply for the housing portion of it to try to subsidize the cost of the housing that we build.habitat will apply for the home funding, which can be used for things like building affordable housing, which patton says is a need in the greater iowa city area. area. because of the university and the high percentage of student renters that we have, its great for our economy, obviously, but having all of that competition for housing makes prices go up. ackerson says that means people can have trouble finding housing they can afford.he says the funds and the organizations that get them impact a lot of people who have low or limited income. the cdbg can be used for public services and facilities like shelters. shelters. they're both federal funds that the city receives because

the benton county sheriff's office tells cbs 2 news the chase started in benton county around 12-15 this morning when the driver refused to pull over after running a stop sign. the chase continued into linn county, and ended at the intersection of 18th street and 33rd avenue southwest in cedar rapids, where spike strips had been deployed. 41-year-old bobby jo witt was arrested at the scene.he faces three seperate charges and is now in the benton county jail on a two-thousand dollar bond. when a loved one is chronically ill - their health becomes a priority. priority.often it's a family member who cares for them throughout their journey.in eastern iowa - there are around 52-thousand caregivers. now - some of them will have a new-one of a kind place to go to for support.an open house and ribbon cutting were held today for the new family caregivers center of mercy at 901 eighth avenue southeast in cedar rapids.among the many services are respite care - a

music, art, pet, and massage therapy and a volunteer coach to help come up with a strategy for each family.right now the center will assist 50- families with the hope of adding 100-more in 2016. in north liberty libertyiowa city community school district officials cut a ribbon to celebrate the completion of renovations at penn elementary. every inch of the building saw work - including the addition of a new gymnasium and new library. district leaders say with a booming population in north liberty, it's important to provide upgrades and more space. ((kelly)) time now for this week's c-b-j report. report.and joining us live from the corridor business journal is editor adam moore. adam, sounds like we're getting some new businesses at one of the busiest intersections in cedar rapids.. we have word this week that two retailers will be moving into a new commercial strip at first avenue and collins road in cedar rapids. regional eyeglass chain all about eyes and mattress firm, which is now located just down the block, have both signed 10- year leases at the new strip. the building will replace the former fiesta del sol restaurant at the corner, which is one of the busiest in the city. those retailers are expected to be open for business by next summer. speaking of development, there's been some controversy surrounding a vote at cedar rapids city council this week. week.the cedar rapids city council voted to open negotiations on a half-million dollar financing package for terex minerals this week, following some heated debate.

employees out of its old location in northeast cedar rapids, and found the best deal in marion, at a fully furnished building berthel fischer will vacate next year. the company said the fountains development at edgewood and blairs ferry roads was a close second, but lacked furnishings. terex requested the financing help to close the difference, and the measure passed the council by a 5-3 vote. that's a pretty close votea&why the split on support? councilmembers including scott olson, monica vernon and kris gulick objected to providing additional assistance just to help pay for the cost of furnishings. mr. olson argued that providing the money could fuel arguments by those against tif deals, and that it will set a bad precedent, saying the move "opens pandora's box." mayor ron corbett, on the other hand, said the agreement is needed
