cbs 2 news ten at ten continues now with more of the corridor's top stories. stories.a missouri state trooper is now charged in the death of an iowa native. native.brandon ellingson drowned at the lake of the ozarks in may 2014 while in custody.he'd been arrested on suspicion of boating while intoxicated, but then, somehow fell off the boat. now, the trooper who arrested him, anthony piercy, faces a charge involuntary manslaughter.piercy originally was cleared of wrongdoing by a jury, but an investigative report later revealed that ellingson was standing on the

boat in handcuffs when he fell over as it was traveling 40- miles per hour. trooper piercy previously said ellingson was sitting and the boat was going only 10-miles per hour. with that incident, and the death of freddie gray in police custody, arrest protocol is under the microscope everywhere. as a result, some local departments are taking proactive steps to not only protect themselves, but those in their custody. custody.cbs 2 news reporter dora miller shows us one example in anamosa. anamosa. passengers in prison transport vans are now being watched. watched."this is definitely more safer for the driver and a passenger."for the jones county sheriff's office, equipping a van with cameras was a no-brainer after national criticism in baltimore.sot from national news news "once that incident happened and it came out that freddie gray's injury may have resulted from his transport and possibly a rough ride, we went ahead and made the decision." the van is also equipped with lights and sirens...and get this, the video is automatically downloaded to the server when the van is parked in the parking lot. a group's holiday party is being beingturned into a fundraiser. the butler-williams family of hiawatha lost their home in a fire on tuesday.the flames were actually spotted by an ambulance crew who were on their way to a medical call. fortunately, no was hurt but the home is now ulivable. friends and family had an ugly sweater party planned, but decided to use the event for a good cause. those there either donated money or brought an item for the family. flames.it happened around 10 o'clock last night near i- avenue and first street southwest.40-year-old matthew geraghty ran to help, using his coat to put out the flames out on 38-year-old corey smock.smock, who is homeless, was taken to university of iowa hospitals and clinics where authorities say he does have life-threatening injuries.geraghty's nine-year-old son called 9-1-1. investigators say a candle in smock's tent likely was knocked over, starting the fire. an iowa father faces child endangerment charges after crashing his car into a train trainthe iowa state patrol says joshua thomas caused the crash while his 14-month-old daughter was in the car. during the morning commute, troopers say instead of waiting in line like other drivers at the train tracks, thomas drove around the cars. then he drove around the crossing arms - hitting a train going westbound.iowa state troopers say he left the scene before they got there,

" more turmoil tonight for governor terry branstad's plan to privatize the state's multi- billion dollar medicaid system. system.late today, the governor ordered operators to follow a judge's recommendati on to drop one of the four companies selected to run the

business boom.with exactly a week until christmas day, folks are lining up to ship gifts to their loved ones across the country.store owner's tell cbs 2 news that there's still time for family to recieve their gifts by christmas, but say it's a good idea to insure those packages to make sure they get to their destination during the busiest time of year. in cedar rapids rapidsvolunteers from the arc of east central iowa are giving people a hand with another tedious part of gift giving - wrapping.they've set up shop at lindale mall to wrap for a cause - proceeds support the arc.you can get your gifts wrapped at the mall until christmas eve. in coralville coralvillethose who still have wrapping and shipping to take care of are hitting coral ridge mall hard. some shoppers we spoke to said they had been there since seven this morning trying to beat the final weekend rush.in a time where online shopping becomes more popular, some shoppers say they prefer the in person experience.coral ridge is open until 10 p-m every night

iowa city got their hands on a special brew tonight at new pioneer food co-op in iowa city.kilt kicker barrel-aged scotch ale blends beer made by madhouse brewery out of des moines, and it was aged in bourbon and single malt barrels from cedar ridge distillery. it was limited to only 2 barrels, making it the perfect find for lover's of rare beer this holiday season. the whole idea behind the beers besides just having some fun is doing something interesting for customers was of course to support our mission statement because we are more than grocery we believe in supporting local. this was the 4th special beer
