right now, now,the results of a special census in north liberty are revealing that 18-thousand people now live in that corridor city.that's's 36- percent population increase during just the past six years. years.cbs 2 news reporter mellaney moore is live to explain how the city is going to use the new results. north liberty city officials say more peoplea&means more money.some of the money they're looking forward to the most will help them maintain roads for bll those people. people. north libebey growth isn't slowing downa&and neither is the demand for city services. services. we have almost 80 miles of streets now. preliminary special census data collected from july to december estimates 18,228 people live in the corridor city.those results mean an additional half a million dollars each fiscal year in road-use tax money to help the ty keep up.

street department because a lot of that money will be used for equipment, street projects, traffic signal improvements and possibly another employee employeethe north liberty streets superintendent says they've had this truck since 1999 and some of the money coming from the special census might go to replacing it. a snow plow like this one could cost them $140,000. $140,000. everybody was really surprised to hear that we were a thousand residents short in our estimation. the last census in 2010 counted 13,374 people.city officials estimated the city's new population to be 17,000 people. people. the participation rate was extremely high and actually higher than what they normally see, so i just want to say thanknkyou to all the residents.nielsen says the growth in population and funding will make it possible for the city to do more across the board.colony is looking forward to what increased funding will do for city workers and streets. reets. with e census money that we project to get, it

efficient and keep up with the times. the mayor says the city might see those dollars in fiscal year 2017 if they can get the count certified in time. covering the corridor inorth liberty, mellaney moore, cbs 2 news. another of eastern iowa's most rapidly-growing cities wants to conduct its own special census-- and organizers need help to do it. it.applications are now available for paid census enumerators in marion.the city is conducting a partial census, meaning they're only counting certain parts of the city that are experiencing high-growth. high-growth.during the last census in 20-10, the city had 34-thousand, 768 residents. residents.city staff estimate their special census will reveal an increase of between 800 and one-thousand people. people.it's estimated that thehe census wililcost the city 134-thousand dollars. dollars.the deadline to apply is january 22nd and the job is expected to last between three

cedar rapids schoool leaders also are preparing to discuss a new academic calendar. calendar.right now, the district's proposed calendar sets august 23rd as the first day of class, with a late start every y weweesday.those late starts have some parents, especially ones needing to come up with child care, upset. pending the outcome of today's discussion, the district will hold a pububc hearing with the final recommendations on januarty 25th. ongoing privacy concerns between law enforcement and the public continue to be an issue when it comes to body cameras.thatat why the cedar rapids policecedepartment is still studying before it rolls out its own. own.cbs 2 news reporter steffi lee is here to tell us where the department's efforts stand right now. cedar rapids police hopes to have a final policy to show citizens by the middle of this year.they received a federal grant last year to buy the cameras - but i'm told what takes a while is choosing the right technology and getting the right guidanan from other department. department. cedar rapids police chief
