tomorrow night "48 hours" live to tell shares a remarkable tale of survival. a 19-year-old woman was attacked at her apartment complex in southern california. for 18 years her case remained unsolved until a stunning twist in the case. correspondent erin moriarty ows us how one o othe suspects turned out to be a hollywood actor. here's a preview of her report. >> i had been referenced as jane doe for many years.

and i was left for dead. >> reporter: it was the summer, 1990, when victoria, whose name we've changed for our broadcast, was attacked by two men at her apartment parking lot in huntington beach. >> he slammed a gun to my head and he's just like, in my ear, i'm going to kill you so bad. i'm going to throw you off the cliff. >> reporter: victoria was thrown into the back seat of a car and repeatedly sexually assaulted, but she fouout back. even lying to her attackers to gain sympathy. >> i remembered saying that i had a kid, i had a baby, and i just thought did they buy that? did they buy that? >> reporter: after what felt like hours, vtoria was released. >> i set everything else a ade to w wk this one. >> reporter: there was hope. investigators had dna evidence that yielded profiles for two men.

we'd get thehe quickly. >> reporter: it didn't happen. the case went cold. and then -- >> i received a phone call that i waited for for 18 years. >> i said, yeah, we got him. we finally g g adnaa hit. >> reporter: the dna came back to a man named joseph sun, but they made a surprising discovery. sun was an actor with a role in a hollywood blockbuster, "austin powers, international man of mystery." >> i had his missovie sittingng on my rack. i thought are you serious? he's in my home? >> reporter: sun was charged with multiple counts of kidnapping and rape. investigators then arrested a second suspect, j jeph sun'ss high school friend, santiago guiton. but before trial, deputy district attorney eric scarborough made a sickening discovery. >> it was like my stomach hit

oduction equipment had to be sent in from germany. and then there's the not-so-small matter of government censorship. >> i imagine the government here wanted to know what you were going to shoot and what you were saying about cuba. how much hands-on do they get on a script on a show like this? >> you don't just come to cuba and shoot whatever you want. they are very protective of a culture that they y ve here and a system that they have here. so in order to be here today, we submitted a script and an outline months ago. it was reviewed by the cuban government and we were given approvals at various stages. >> reporter: the producers also had to get permission from the u.s. government. the ambassador is inn charge of e u.s. embassy in cuba. >> what is the significance of a u.s. television show filming in cuba? >> culture is a very important bridge builder as we forge this new relationship, and so personally i think it's very important.

and a lot of visitors from different elements of the industry expressing interest.. >> reporter: universal pictures is currently trying to get permission to shoot a portion of "fast and the furious 8" in cuba. but "house of lies" got her first and actress kristen bell has seen a lot of curious cubans. >> it's a curious thing that we're doing because people are walking around with giant cameras on their heads and cars attached to other cars and, you know, a bunch of blondes. and it's interesting, people they stare but they're quiet and cooperative and so spitable. >> reporter: i isked this woman what she thought of it all. she said she likes it one of the relations between the u.s. and cuba and is glad the show came to her town. and cubans weren't just
