welcome to cps 2. >> happy with the let's get a check of our cbs 2 weather first forecast. it's cold out there to start the morning with temperatures in the teens and a wind chill in the single digits. temperatures will increase through the day, but clouds will move in so it will be colder than yesterday with afternoon but to the north and west where the snow fell in waterloo, 7.5 inches of snow, much colder with 2 degrees. 15 in cedar rapids where we only got an inch and a half of

it really is that divide, that will continue over the next couple of days. the wind now coming out of the north northwest and they are going to continue to bring in cold air this morning but will switch around to said south leading to a warm up later on in the weekend. wind chills near 5 degrees, 2 in waterloo, throughout the day temperatures warm up under the clouds to around 30 degrees in the area , colder to the north and west. these numbers aren't so great. i have much better ones coming up for this weekend and i will break that down for you coming up in our weather first forecast. all through the day you will see a lot of red around cbs 2 and hopefully eastern iowa, too. >> is national go red for women day, stephanie johnson is here to tell us more about it. >> today is go red day, to remind women to take care of our hearts. according to the american heart association, one in three women die from heart attack or stroke

digits- the regional welcome back. 86:11 on this friday morning possible tonight, and our next system approaching by sunday night.- today's forecast features cloudy skies & cooler temperatures- tonight's forecast has us looking for mostly cloudy skies with some light snow and temperatures near 20- the next three days shows a warming trend this weekend with highs nearing the 15 degrees in the cedar rapids but feels like 5 out there. across the rest of the area to the north and west it is even colder where all the snow fell earlier this week, 2 degrees in waterloo, 7 in all wine, further to the south and east a bit warmer there. the winds are out of the north and west contributing to some colder temperatures, and that windchill, winds spread about 5 to 10 miles per hour. it feels even colder than the actual thermometer reading, feels like 2 below -- 6 below in charles city, not as bad in cedar rapids at least compared to the northwest. iowa city feels like 15 and 10 in washington there going to stay cold throughout the day as clouds start to move into the area, that is going to prevent temperatures from rising

they will stay right below that 30 degrees mark. today, a few peaks of sunshine early on, democrats take over, could have a few flurries later on tonight. let's talk about what you can expect for the next couple of days. there is some good news and some bad news. if you don't like the cold weekend, this weekend we start to warm up. we have a front that comes monday and gets much, much colder next week. the front on monday will bring a chance for some snow, but it will likely just be around an inch. right now on satellite, we have a few clouds to our east, more cause to the west that will start to move in and take over, could lead to a few flurries later on tonight in the overnight hours, just a dusting across the area. further to the north, that's where we are watching for the next system to move on through late sunday night into monday, could bring a chance for some snow but then it drags down some much colder air and we will lead to some colder temperatures for next week. so, we stay warm through the weekend, but there is that system moving through monday,

the public at all the way down into florida, and, it's going to lead to some cold temperatures across much of the eastern united states for much of next week. but for now, let's focus on the good stuff because i have some ice looking number of the weekend. today's temperatures holding below the 30 degree mark across the area, below freezing, increasing clouds through the day and colder than it was yesterday. tonight, temperatures will fall but won't be quite as close, clouds stick around acting as a blanket preventing the heat from escaping. temperatures stay near the 20 degree mark, 19 in oelwein, not as cold the past few nights but areas north and west could be a bit colder because of all of the snow on the ground and we could get a few passing flurries later on tonight. tomorrow, though, much bigger improvement, temperatures above freezing across eastern iowa, and warmer than the past few days. the warming trend also continues, we have a high of 37 tomorrow and on sunday, getting even closer to that 40 degree mark, 39 there.

well with wind is coming out of the north and west. there are clouds moving in from the west as well keeping temperatures down later this afternoon as clouds take over. temperatures will be able to increase throughout the day, 23 degrees by noon, 28 degrees by 3:00, mostly cloudy skies and colder than yesterday. but we do start to warm up this weekend. a good-looking forecast saturday and sunday with high temperatures nearing the 40 degrees mark. nice, still in the 20s, seasonable for this time of year. things change to start off the workweek next week, the system comes through, and a chance for snow late sunday into monday. the bottom falls out, temperatures fall below freezing, stay there well below freezing with high temperatures near 20, then your 15, low temperatures in the single digits and teens for much of the next week. kevin and kelly? let's take a look at some of eastern iowa's top stories. in johnson county, new hi-vee is on hold this morning, the

the company says the hi-vee gas station near the site will open sometime next month, crews will start working on the grocery store portion sometime next year. a popular coralville brewer is setting his sights on cedar rapids. back pocket brewery is opening a new location in downtown cedar rapids later this year. the pilot will open in the old -- building your fourth avenue and 30 street southeast. back pocket says the new location will serve as a testing ground for styles of flavors and different types of beers that the brewery is going to create. development in cedar rapids is booming. the number of construction jobs in the area last year grew by 5%. more than 8300 new jobs came to cedar rapids last december, ranking the city at 97 in the nation for job growth. 50 fashion designers teamed up with the nfl to go where no football has gone before. >> take a look.

to warm up because those winds have died down. through the day today, temperatures attempt to warm up under some cloud cover, and they are really just going to stay below the 30 degree mark, areas near waterloo, they will stay closer to about the 20 degree mark today. we do have a warm up in store for the weekend. and then, as the front moves through monday, it turns much colder next week. for now, we have some clear skies, clouds will start to move back in, though, throughout the day today. that will prevent temperatures from warming up, could have a few flurries later tonight in the next system start to approach late sunday night and into monday, could bring a chance for a few snow showers late sunday into monday, but what you are really notices a change in the temperatures as this system comes through, drag the jet stream down, the polar jet all the way down into florida, so some really cold arctic air invading much of the eastern united states for much of next week. i will show you those numbers on the next forecast in just a
