ten minutes. this is cbs 2 news 10 at 10. there are lot of different opinions right now about a local football c there are a lot of different opinions right now about a local football coach. tonight parents and sxudents voicehose opinions to leaders in a linn-mar community school district. >> it concerns physical and verbal abuse by a football coach. you've had a lot to say on our facebook page. now dora miller joins us. >> reporter: that's right. many parents and students tonight were emotional as they recalled personal experiences with the football staff. it seemed like the whole football team was there to support the coaches. >> there was a 35-pound weight.

>> reporter: he claims the coach was upset and used his position to hurt his son. >> instead of talking to him, he hit him in the mouth breaking his tooth. >> verbal abuse, physical abuse has got to stop. >> reporter: one parent says the abuse goes outside of the locker room. >> some kids get it in the classroom from these coaches. they're pushed to go bully. >> reporter: members of the fool ball team adamantly deny any wrong doing. >> the coachings do not -- coaches do not bully us or abuse us. that is so blown out of proportion. >> these things have been shocking to me.

not true. >> they've taught me life values. >> reporter: mark, spokes person for the families who claim abuse says he's not buying it. >we have asked what is the district doing to protect our children and we have been promised a response and then dismissed with no resesnse. >> reporter: no action was taken by the board tonight. there was not enough information to take action. the parents will still move forward to the board of education. weather wise a good start to the week here in eastern iowa. temperatures were up above the freezing mark today. we had a little sunshine out there too. we're still at 36 degrees. and as far as the temperatures

will open this fall.johnson steam academy opened last year. the district is also applying for a 12 - million dollar grant that could make roosevelt the next magnet school by the fall of 20-17. developing tonight - a 16- year-old is dead tonight after being injured in a helicopter crash near pearl harbor.the chopper plunged into the water near the arizona memorial's visitors center last week.five people were on board the helicopter. the teen's name has not been released.federal agencies are now trying to figure out what caused the chopper to crash. the community of kalamazoo, michigan is coming together to remember six people senslessly gunned down. down.the accused shooter, jason dalton sits in jail tonight, he made his first court appearance earlier today. the uber driver went on a shooting rampage in three parate attacks saturday night.in all, eight people were shot, six killed.dalton

and has no prior criminal history. police say he drove 14 people during the four and a half hour shooting spree. tonight, riflemaker bushmaster says it is not responsible for the sandy hook shooting. shooting.the families of 20 first-graders and six adults who were killed are suing the company.their attorneys say the weapon used in the massacre is too dangerous to be sold to the general public. the case has the potential to make history if it goes to trial.a 2005 federal law grants gun manufacturers immunity from any lawsuit related to injuries that result from criminal suse of their products. cbs 2 news is learning new developments in the escalating privacy battle between apple and the f-b-i. f-b-i.e tech-company is now asking congress to step in. in.the f-b-i wants apple's help to decrypt the i-phone of one of the san bernardino shooters.14 people died in the the december second attack.a

morning.one man was trapped inside one of the apartments at the time, he was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.he is expected to be ok.three apartments sustained heavy damage. right now in north liberty, liberty,city leaders are ready to approve the 20-17 budget and a new two year plan.it includes the possibility of transitioning to a full-time fire department.chief eric vandewater tell cbs 2 news, having full-time staff would help keep up with future demand and redudu response times to emergencies.last year the north liberty volunteer fire department responded to more than a thousand calls. in coralville, coralville,leaders want your suggestions on signage. the public is invited to talk about the rules for commercial signs and billboards.that meeting is tomorrow, from noon to one at west bank in coralville.the city will present proposed changes.the review process is expected to take several months.

including which college to go to, or which cacaer path they should take. take.for 50 years now, the cedar rapids police department has tried to help those looking at a life in law enforcement. enforcement.cbs 2 news reporter joe huisinga is live in cedar rapids with more, joe? the cedar rapids police explorers have are a divers group of teens that take pride in helping their community.and for some patricipants that passion becomes a career of service. service.the police explorer program teaches young people about lives in law enforcement and respecting their communities.officer shawn burke has been running the program since 2010 and he says hes now starting to see former explorers begin their careers in law enforcement. it's rewarding for me i know its rewarding for them. i think it speaks great volumes for this program because it's again just letting them know what this job entails and what they can expect being in this career field.."

no rain or snow expected here in eastern iowa. current temperatures are still above the freezingark except for washington. they have dropped to 32. the rest of us in the range of 33 to 35. you can see moisture starting to increase to thehe south of us. this promises to be a significant orm system but ll go down towards the mississippi valley. that keeps the rain and snow off to the east of us. eventually as the low tracks up through this area here, northly winds willl come in and colder temperatures. i'm just talking seasonal temperatures in the low to mid 30s. east of us, there will be

from about st. louis to chicago, there could be accumulatatns. so it will be a significant storm for them. once again it all misses us. now as far as winds go, not much to be concerned about there. as you can see during the day the winds are light out of the south. as the storm strengthens you can see the wind g gts picking up. then they're out of the north. and our temperatures tomorrow in advance of all that should be nice and mild. by the time we get to wednesday wednesday you do see the downturn -- wednesday. mostly cloudy skies and during the day tomorrow our temperaturur should r rge from 43 to 49 and we'll see a mixture coming in.

in their young lives, children and deans -- teens are likely to experience some sort of trazma. today more and mer therapists are treatingng those young people through a specialized therapy. as i found out, it's working. >> it's not okay for your mom and dad to hit you. >> reporter: ms. mitchell listen toss children for a living. she's heard heart breaking stories. but her office is welcoming and warm and full of toys. >> you're allowing the kids to through play."tanager place has more than 15 therapists who specialize in "play therapy".sons of stacie's co- worker sat with her to show us how play therapy works."you want to come play?"a typical session allows the child no less than 45-minutes of pure
