outdoors.with spring closing in, corridor cities are spending millions of dollars getting ready for people to do >> corridor cities are spending millions of dollars to get people to do just that. melanie moore tells us about park improvements coming to johnson county. >> reporter: the city will be spending 1 and a half million dollars on improvements here. they're going to be adding more than a mile of trails and three shelters. that's one example of what's going on this side of the corridor. more people means a city needs more room to play. >> the city is now over 18,000 people. when i started about 20 years ago, there was about 2500 people. >> reporter: part of a plan

joining us is chase castle. you're reporting that a cedar rapids building that was used for court offices after the 2008 flood is getting a face lift. >> the glass distribution company is spending about $3.5 million expanding its office. they plan to redevelop a building near its existent headquarters there. city staff hope to have the proposed 10 year [ indiscernible ] with the exemption. the building's property value would generate an estimated $40,000 for the city. >> you're also reporting that some prominent property in downtown cedar rapids is now up for grabs. what's the deal? >> could be something pretty sizely in cedar rapids.

for a high profile location downtown. that's 3rd avenue and 1st street just west of the theater. it's in that area, they're looking for proposals for a building that's at least 5 stories. it calls for housing units and parking. they want to have a selection made by may 24th. also, miron construction is putting up -- they currently lease office space on atlantic drive this. building. it will be the base for the operation's iowa projects. and myron -- the mary louise peterson residence hall that was completed last fall. >> always great to hear about

thanks, chase castle for the update. if you want more coverage, be sure to check out monday's edition of the corridor business journal. your cbs2 weather forecast. >> actually today was a little chilly out there. temperatures were in the low to mid30s. with brisk wind, it did feel like winter in east iowa. windchill is 32 degrees. there is warmer air in our future and we'll feel it by tomorrow. by the weekend, temperatures are going to soar here in iowa. you can see breaks in the clouds here in northeastern iowa. but we're not entirely done with the clouds yet. they will be thinning out in the next 24 hours and by tomorrow afternoon we should have partly sunny conditions here and temperatures that will be back in the 40s in many locations.

staying in the 30s. highs around fort dodge and mason city, around the 32, 33 degree mark. tomorrow sunshine. we'll also start a warming trend that will really take off over the weekend here. but more cold air surges back into the midwest by tuesday next week and that's when we could see accumulating snow here in eastern iowa. here's our current temperatures that are in the range of 30 to 34 degrees in iowa. iowa city is the warm spot at 34. on our satellite, here's the big storm system that produced a lot of severe weather the past couple of days in the southern and eastern united states. on its backside today, we've had the clouds and breezy conditions in eya. as that moves away, it will

eastern iowa. that's why we're going to be nice and warm here for the upcoming weekend. you can see readings are already starting to get back into the 40s and we'll push it into saturday here. take a look at these highs. readings getting to 57 in cedar rapids and low to mid-60s will be a possibility in parts of south and western iowa. that's the westerly flow that brings the warmer temperatures. a cold front arrives on sunday. low pressure should form on a boundary down to the south of us and head toward the ohio valley. that could bring accumulating snow to eastern iowa. about an inch and a half in cedar rapids. maybe a little more in some of our southern counties. and the european model is much more bullish. it has 6 to 7 inference parts

it's far too early to get concerned about some of the numbers, but the trends are there for accumulating snow. there's your forecast. 22 to 26 on the lows. passing clouds. it looks like temperatures going to fall back into the seasonal range. tomorrow, temperatures mid-30s in the north to lower 40s in the south. the extended forecast has 56 degrees then for saturday and still around 56 for sunday. maybe 57. just an outside chance we could see a shower later in the day. then things really cool off and snow is a possibility around tuesday of next week. something we'll be keeping a close eye on in future forecast. >> we've been spoiled. >> we sure have. things could change, but that's the way we see this. right now, a marion woman
