joke said in the back of the restaurant. >> reporter: all food inspection reports are available on the website. >> in a statement to us, popeye's says they thank customers for reporting the issue and they are investigating. a developing story at of kansas right now. there was a work place shooting at excel industries located in hesston which is northwest of wichita. the suspect opened fire just before 5:30 this evening. officers did shoot and kill him. officers are investigating four to five different crime scenes.

progress here in eastern iowa. temperatures are around the upper 20s to lower 30s. with our northwest wind, we've got a wind chill of 18 degrees. here are other temperatures. you can see the clouds passing from northwest to southeast. they should start breaking out during the day tomorrow. warmer air will be pushing towards us and that will get tomorrow's temperatures in the 40s. over the weekend, we'll have 350s -- 50s. more coming up. now more top stories. sexual assault is a brutal crime. across the country, many rape kits never get tested. officials are working to find out how many of those kits are

>> reporter: sexual assault or rape kits are an important tool to identify suspects and bring them to justice. the iowa attorney general's office is looking to eliminate a back log of tested kits. >> they don't get everything tested in a matter of minutes. >> reporter: testing is a costly and time consuming process. >> if you provide all of the kits to the crime lab, the system will be overburdened. >> reporter: nationally, there's an estimated 70 thousand untested kits. now the iowa attorney general's office is conducting a survey to find a figure for iowa. >> we are part of the test group for their survey.

we have roughly 50 kits left behind that have not be tested. >> reporter: kits aren't tested if the suspect wants to remain anonymous among other things. >> it takes some time. maybe down the road they're ready to talk about it and explore options. >> reporter: once all agencies have a full inventory, the state will have to come up with a plan to test them. the lawyer for a due buick man -- dubuque man accused of sexual assaulting a woman and beating her to death has a mental disorder.

the city of coralville is spending over 100-0000 at the sports park. this includes more than a million dollar in -- dollars in improvements this summer. heidi cordes is full of life. so when heidi suddenly died on her 24th birthday, it shocked everyone that knew her. this warm and loving family in marion almost never happened. (whiteout effect to pic "day of my cardiac arrest") only hours after this wisconsin vacation photo was taken in 2002, heidi--without any warning-- suffered a cardiac arrest. "i don't really remembera&i kind of remember being in the room.

and i collapsed and i just stopped breathing from what i was told."a friend started cpr, called 911 and fortunately, a nearby police officer had a portable defibrillator. they got her heart beating again but she was in pretty bad shape, so doctors eventually airlifted heidi to a madison hospital. "i guess i was not responsive, they put me on life support and it got to the point where the doctors had to have a meeting with my parents toa&you know, discuss the thing that parents never want to discuss." miraculously, heidi pulled through and was extensively studied to determine the cause of her cardiac arrest. but doctors never came up with a difinitive answer. completely healthy by all other measurements, heidi received an implantable defibrillator in her chest. chest. "and it has leads that go down through the venous system into the heart, attached to the heart and sit in there to monitor the heart,

defibrillate the heart if needed." back on her feet, heidi resumed training for a half-marathon and earned her college degree. "so it would have been 2003 after i graduated, i started not feeling well. again."heidi contracted pneumonia and that's when doctors discovered numerous blood clots that had spread to her lungs. again, no explanation. explanation. "she's had an extensive workup to look for a hyper-coagulable state, the ability to form clots where you shouldn't form clots. and they found some abnormalities but nothing that they really could say that was it."one of the clots, an inch-and-a-half large, had grown on her defibrillator's lead line into her heart. so doctors opened heidi's chest, removed the clot and placed a defibrillator outside her heart in her abdomen. "taking the hardware which is two little pacing leads, sensing leads that screw right into your heart muscle, and these two little things that look like small flyswatters.

they look like mesh, and you attached those on the front and back of your heart and those are the defibrillating paddles." not willing to give up and stop living, heidi and casey got married, had two beautiful daughters... "you think about why am i here? and they're my reason."and now, fulfilling another dream, heidi is running her own women's clothing store in uptown marion. "other than having a cardiac arrest and having some procedures for this hardware, she leads a very normal, active life."by the way, heidi recently completed that half- marathon she started training for thirteen years ago. and the beat goes on. on. "oh, you know you justa&you can't take life for granted. you gotta live each daya&in the moment. you never know, you know, you get so wrapped up in your everyday life and it's just a good

north and we're out of it. so until i see it in my backyard, i'm not saying for sure. 28 degrees is the temperature out there now. cold enough the record some snow. we've got a wind chill of 18 degrees. we have had some areas where it's cleared out for a bit. but more clouds are coming in from the northwest. i do think tomorrow we will get into some sunshine around here and that's going to bring us a pretty good day. after our start of 25, we should be well above the freezing mark by noon and eventually get high temperatures back up into the lower 40s. and with the warmer temperatures we'll see sunshine tomorrow to brighten things up. our temperatures saturday and sunday should be at least 20 degrees above the averaging for

just as you're starting to enjoy that, everything comes crashing to a halt and that could bring some snow to parts of iowa ton tuesday. more on that in a minute. tonight's temperatures still in the upper 20s to lower 30s. the clouds coming in from the northwest. this is part of the system which brought a couple of rounds of severe weather to the u.s.. we're getting clearing and that will bring us sunshine tomorrow. our temperatures tomorrow avrn should be in the 40s. we're going to take you up to saturday now. we'll be as high as 58 degrees here in cedar rapids and some 60s in extreme southern portions

the warmer air will come in for the weekend. but we see a buckle in the jet stream that takes the cold front on through the midwest on monday. a low pressure will develop and move northeast. our recent models indicate maybe 1 to 2 inches of snow in eastern iowa on our u.s. model. the urpen model is -- european model is much more bullish. the friends are definitely there for some snow somewhere in the midwest and we'll have a lot more on this in our forecast coming up. temperatures tonight in the 20s. tomorrow most of us in the upper 30s to lower 40s and beyond that
