that minimum wage for them. >> it's going to encourage more student workers and i bet they will get more applications. >> reporter: covering the corridor in iowa city mellaney moore cbs2 news. university officials say right now the indegreess are for student in the housing and dining department but other areas are looking at their budgets. promising news for the midwest regional economy. mid american business conditions index from creighton university climbed to 50.5 february. that's an increase of more than 2 points in month. any score above 50 indicates economic growth. analysts say weak economies whyn some of the main trading partners with midwest states including china could be contributing to sluggish growth. governor branstad says they want iowa to be e healthiest state in the nation. >> they are giving he 6 communities grant to achieve that. steffi lee is telling us what the funds should help with.

the state invasion model initiative. it aims to help county preview how effectist health care access is. lynn county public health is one of 6 who will get federal funding. the reviewewill happen over the next three years. 6 communities will split about a million dollars of federal funding during the first year. lieutenant governor reynolds says this ties in with other health initiatives including the blue zone certified community which lynn county is part of. lynn countery public health -- county public health says they will address health arealike tobacco use obesity and didietes. >> diabetes and obesity trends are tending to go upwards and we would like to see that change. and as far as tobacco use goes, that's always something that we are working to address. >> reporter: local hospitals and government health agencies will work with lynn county public health on the grant. steffi lee.

let's talk about the snowowthat fell last night. and as we expected, it was along and north of highway 20 that the heaviest acculations ll. these reports are coming from the iowa area and it was 3 to 5 inches in the northeastern part of the state. onelinch from south of dubuque just north of cedar rapids by 15 miles over e center point and back towards marshalltown so a close call in the cedar rapidsarea but we stayed out of snow buto don't have to go far north to find it white. 3 to 5 inches in northeastern iowa. here are some reports west union 5 inches last night. and new hampton papaersburg all around 4 inches and waterloo with 3.3 and dubuque with 3 inches of accumulation last night. and the temperatures now really showing the impacts of the snow cover. it's cleared out here and

to 14 in charles city 16 in owine and across the south where there's no snow it's 8 to 10 degrees warmer. hour by hour forecast tomorrow after a cold start gets us back into the mid-30s but clouds come in tomorrow afternoon. and by tomorrow evening, it looks like the next round of snow will develop. so the weather headlines include cold night tonight. and a little more snow on wednesday. and so very wintry conditions right on through the end of the week. however, by y e time we get o the weekend, as we showed you earlier, a nice warmup expected here in the eastern iowa. that he today's system snow over parts -- that's to's system snow over the parts of the area. we will have cold nights tonight. to the west of us precipitation beginning to develop in the northern rockies. that's our next clipper moving to the southeast and cks like that's going to -- looks like that's going to track northern missouri and central illinois and that's a pretty good track to he see accumulating snows in

not just the north this time around. and our snowfall forecast indicates some of the amounts here in that 3 inch range over much of eastern iowa. so it's a little preliminary to get too hard core on the numbers but 1 to 3 inches across eastern iowa mock on through tomorrow night. and on the predictor tonight you can see how we are clear at midnight and we witl keep the clear skies around throroh tomorrrr morning. and the clouds quickck come in during the afternoon and at 6:00 we are starting to see a little bit of snow and u can see that spreads across the -- you can see it spres across the area tomorrow at midnight and gone by the time we get up in the morning hours on thursday. it will be a quick hitter but 1 to 3 inches for much of eastern iowa. tovight temperatures frov 7 or 6 way up in the north to about 17 degrees in the e south. as the clouds depart we get cold. tomorrow morning sun clouds in ththafternoon and temperatures around 30 in the north and 38 degrees in the south. and the snow comes in here tomorrow evening should be gone
