join us tomorrow on cbs 2 this morning -- each year - wildfires seems to get worse across the western part of the . country.find out the new research being done right now - to make sure firefighters are taking the right approach. that's a lot of moisture in the atmosphere -- a tremendous amount. this is about the fifth time we have had water values of about 2 inches. that water vapor can be squeezed out in the form of

even into late august that usually means up to 4 inches of rain. that is what we are concerned about tonight. so we will get right to in just a second. first of all 73 is the temperature in cedar rapids. the moisture is in the air. that will squeeze this out in the form of showers and thunderstorms. several hours in our far northern counties. you can see the thunderstorms very active up that way and they keep back loading into western iowa. diesel be around for several more hours meaning the potential is there for 3 inches of rain. floyd county not too far away from charles city. minor flash flooding has been occurring in some areas.

over the same general area of the potential is certainly therefore flash flooding across northeastern iowa as we go through the nighttime hours tonight. once again you can see this solid patch of rain extending from mississippi river to the core. and from there the actual front goes all the way into southwestern iowa and right in this region here you can see additional thunderstorms developing. these could actually move north east of the same through the night so i am expecting decent rainfall totals coming out of northeastern iowa and certainly the potential is there for flash flooding. if you live in a flood prone area pay attention to the forecast as we go through the rest of tonight. here is our predictor. the model shows how this is expected to go. here we are 2 am noticing some of storms showing up a bit
