university of iowa students are starting early to improve the relationship between police and the communit. community...students invited local police officers to participate in a public discussion yesterday.the goal is to better understand each other. organizers of the "thin line between black and blue" event say they have to start the conversation early to build healthy relationships. 6:12 on this thursday morning. it is a beautiful one at that. we have gorgeous conditions continuing for a couple days. right now, a beautiful sunrise over the city of cedar rapids where we are waking up to some pretty cool temperatures. about 5-10 degrees cooler than it was yesterday morning. 59 in iowa city, 57 and 55 in decorah. is going to continue to be a little bit of a cool morning out there. you may need a light jacket and step out the door for take the kids to the bus stop. as we head through the afternoon in pictures will rise in the low to mid 70s. it will be a little bit cooler than it was yesterday.

it is keeping the weather calm and quiet. out to the south it is a different story. in the gulf of mexico there is a tropical storm that will make landfall sometime later today . it's could strengthen of it as it does so. it will actually play a role in our weather here. it's going to be a slow-moving system and it will move up the eastern seaboard. we have hold of this moisture here. we've all these reds down here. we'll stay along the east coast and what the storm will do actually prevent this high- pressure system from shifting offshore. that means high pressure stays in control for us through the end of this weekend. moisture will not start to increase until monday. unfortunately we will have heavy rain and rip current will be an issue along florida through the end of this week and into this weekend. for our area, we have nice weather to -- until labor day the we will have some storms
