reported. one man was taken to the hospital after a piece of fabric fell from his jiminy. the sheriff said he was hit in the head while protecting his child. if you think you felt a little shake at your home this morning you are right. the earthquake made an impact here in the corridor. cbs two new spoke with an assistant professor in the environmental science department at the university of iowa about why the corridor felt the week.>> when the earthquake happens it generates seismic waves which are essentially if you are close enough to the source of the earthquake, to the epicenter you can feel those live they travel efficiently, as they can to the midwest because the rocks is nice from rocks and you can fill over a large distance.>> that everyone in the corridor could feel the vibrations. it has to do with where you are at the time of the earthquake. he said it differs over hills

in the weather department was a beautiful start to the holiday weekend and a great day to kick off football season with low humidity and some warm weather. now it is nice and comfortable outside. with a couple of clouds moving into our skies and that is due to thunderstorms and portions of nebraska. we will stay nice and comfortable, temperatures now close to the 60 degree mark areawide, down to 62 cedar rapids. you will not be as cool as they happen the last to make nice but we will get back into the mid-60s by morning and temperatures will be climbing close to 80 degrees tomorrow afternoon's a little bit warmer than today. we will have some changes as we head toward the end of the holiday weekend especially on labor day. i will let you know what you can expect for monday and when you will need the umbrella next in your full weather forecast. it is a parent's worst nightmare.

coast. here it has been a gorgeous weekend so far but we are being impacted by the storm and that is why let's check in with chief meteorologist rebecca kopelman for the forecast. >> we are having some influences from the storm but it is actually in a positive way and it is keeping a high pressure system in place. that is what is been so nice for salon. we have clouds creeping in tonight because of showers and thunderstorms that are occurring to our west in portions of nebraska. the clouds will portion out there tonight. right now very nice as i was temperatures falling close to 60 degrees across eastern iowa and it is going to continue to be nice to the night in into parts of tomorrow because high

it is actually started to move it a bit further to these that is why showers and storms are occurring out to our west because the next storm system will approach the post-tropical cyclone hermine is still off the eastern coast and is keeping our weather pattern locked in place. the storm is going to continue to intensify and stay offshore. it has lost its tropical characteristics of that is why there is not as much shower and thunderstorm activity that there is a lot of wind end it will lead to the potential for beach erosion and storm surge up the eastern coast for several days as it lingers near the eastern seaboard and into through the next couple of days. it will move further to the north as we head into tomorrow and that will allow our high pressure system to start to slide further to the south. what that means is winds will shift out of the south, warmer air will be moving in and it will start to feel a little more humid it a little bit more like summer out there because

on labor day it will be nice, it will be dry, it will be warmer temperatures getting closer to the mid and upper 80s and it will also be more humid outside during the day. we will then have the chance for showers and storms. in moisture and humidity is going to be sticking around to the start of the work week. i tuesday, the oranges and yellow showing up over eastern iowa indicating more moisture that is moved in and that will leave us a chance for showers and storms. our next monsters to approach on wednesday we have read -- red showing up heavy rainfall. on the moisture will be sticking around to the end of the week as well. you want to keep the umbrellas handy and you may need them for a couple of days. for the end of this weekend it will be nice and if you have monday off we will have a couple of clouds in the sky. it will be dry but it is going to be a bit muggy. with temperatures close to 90 degrees. we stay close to 90 degree for tuesday but the chance goes up. days chance for rain will be on
