good afternoon. we have great weather today and there's been a little bit of rainfall and cloud cover in charles city, keeping temperatures down. everybody is starting to feel the mugginess outside. dew points are close to 70 area wide compared to the last few days, starting to feel more muggy. temperatures will continue to rise into the 80s but we are clear now on the radar. this morning satellite and radar thoughed a couple scattered showers and storms. the rest of the day will be dry, warm and muggy with temperatures climbing through the 80s. coming up with the full forecast, i'll let you know when you can expect the next chance of showers and storms.

at the university of iowa - -this week marks a very big milestone in the recovery from the floods of oh-8. 8.this friday is the grand opening of the brand new hancher auditorium.hancher was the floods of 2008. this friday the new auditorium will be opened, closed since the flooding. this friday there will be a ribbon cutting and open house. another is scheduled for sunday. later this month steve martin and martin short will perform in the new building. that show is sold out. back in full service with a fresh coat of paint. for almost a month the city endured water restrictions while the tower underwent renovations. a contractor will return tomorrow to do more painting but for the most part it is finished. coming up, tropical storm hermine continuing to move up the east coast. >> and we have some sunshine out there across much of

right now - tropical storm watches and warnings are in effect . welcome back. right now tropical storm watches and warning are in effect from virginia to massachusetts this labor day because of hermine. the storm is slowly moving to dangerous rip currents and storm surges. the storm made landfall friday as a category 1 hurricane hammering several southern states. forecasters warn it could once again become a hurricane. at sea the rough waters rocked this cruise ship heading from new jersey to bermuda. >> the whole boat started rocking, people started getting sick. they started distributing vomit bags around.

likely over and continues to move offshore. now rebecca is in the weather center. what are you seeing from all this? it's still a storm out there and has lost a lot of tropical characteristics. it could regain some of the strength of a hurricane but couldn't necessarily be a hurricane. so it could have winds as high as a category. a category 1 has 74-mile-an- hour winds. luckily it's offshore but could cause storm surge and the high winds could le issues and lead to flooding in parts of the northeast. hopefully they will get relief from that. it put a damper on some people's plans up there. for us, as this pulls away, it will lead to some muggier conditions and potential for some showers and storms. right now we are starting to see more warmth that's moved back into eastern iowa with temperatures in the low 80s

still 73 in charles city and 70 where there was rain earlier and still some clouds, keeping temperatures down a bit there. everyone is starting to feel the mugginess outside. the dew points have already risen close to 70 degrees area wide. that's compared to upper 50s and low 60s we have had for about four days. so comparatively, it will feel a lot warmer outside through this afternoon. the dew points will continue to rise over the hours, still not a bad labor day. we have gotten rid of the rain now and it's hot and humid out there. the winds are picking up out of the south from about 10 to 20 miles an hour and temperatures will continue to warm into the mid-80s this afternoon. so it's going to be a pretty warm day, feeling very much so like summer out there. we did have showers and storms up that have moved out, and

moving to the northeast. later on this could flare back up, but we are dry right now. this is part of a system stalling over parts of the midwest this week and leading to multiple showers and thunderstorms over the next couple days. we have potential for heavy rain because there's a lot of moisture in place and we'll see showers and thunderstorms starting up late tomorrow everything and throughout the day on wednesday. it will be quite the stormy day on wednesday: that's the day you won't want to forget the umbrella and have potential for heavy rain and area wide by wednesday night, we could be racking up about an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall. models are looking at northern iowa for the heaviest rain but there's still a bit of uncertainty. what is certain is we could have multiple rounds throughout

night. so we could be racking up an inch to 2 inches of rain this week. tonight is going to be warm and muggy, temperatures falling close to 70 degrees area wide. by tomorrow morning it's a bit warmer than it was this morning. we'll keep the muggy conditions around through the rest of the week with temperatures in the 80s, highest chance of rain once again tuesday night into wednesday. then we dry out on rain chances go back up on friday, then drier and cooler air moves back in by saturday and sunday. fall is going to come back. but summer is just rearing its head, saying still here. >> and the pools are shutting down after today so we need that fall weather so we're not as sad. exactly. a new fish species has been named after the president.
