we went through this in 2008. this will not be 2008 levels but we are commenting the similarities are there. the heavy rain and the river and everything. right now as we go to doppler radar let's talk about what is happening out there currently. we still have scattered showers out there. very light in intensity but still bringing rain to the forecast as you see, south of cedar rapids and back toward the iowa city area. these are along the mississippi river, the cedar river as well as they wapsipinicon river. all those and flood warning status. let's go around doppler radar. as we fly around we will find scattered showers. very light just south of cedar rapids toward i was city and the marengo area. let's move the radar and show you that in western parts of our viewing area we're also seeing scattered showers.

the city of cedar rapids continues preparations and will be holding press conferences every day at 10am as the threat of flooding exist. exists.this morning at the latest press conference the city manager said sandbags will be free at newbo and ellis park. concern about that because some information on their website had not been updated. the manager was also glad to say many entities both public and private have reached out to the city to offer help with equipment and resources.the city has designated the ladd library parking lot and westdale mall as a place to store cars for those who are needing to evacuate.there were many questions at the meeting about hesco barriers.they brought in one of the barriers to the meeting to get everyone

today we set up shop at newbo city market with water, sandwiches and snacks to hand out to volunteers. the volunteering is important and needed, member not to overdo it. take breaks. stay hydrated and stay safe. all the preparation underway and cedar rapids is due to water already flooding places to the north. that includes the town of waverly. stephanie johnson is live there with a look at the flooding underway. >> reporter: right now residence inav preparing sandbags and waiting for the next round of rain. as the cedar river continues to swell in waverley, some residents watch the waters rise while others moved their belongings to higher ground. >> they are saying the river will come away up. in 2008 it was on the main level. we got everything out of the basement and now we're praying it does not get on the main level. but we are prepared.

as you see for the most part this is lighter moisture and continues to move toward the east. that being said, flash flood watch continues for a little longer through 1:00 for tama, lack,, bremer and butler and grundy county. here are some of the's rainfall totals we've seen. manchester over 5.6 inches of rain there. aaa, 4.6. cedar rapids, 4.3. swisher said 3.3. edgewood at 2.75 and brosche in kittanning county at 2.28 inches. independence had 2.25. vinton had 2.2. the list is on our website at cbs2iowa.com. here are the latest flood concerns and levels. shell rock river, to 2.2 feet. that is expected to crest around 20.6 feet. that is above the 2008 flood level. river levels in cedar falls on

feet on saturday. and the crest in waterloo is at 22 feet on saturday. let's get into vinton. currently 11.2 the pick for crested to crest at 22.1 on sunday. there has been a little bit of misinformation. many folks in our own building -- the cedar river will be above flood stage on sunday but it is not expected to crest until monday. there's been some confusion about that. it will be above its 12 feet by early sunday expected to crest sometime monday afternoon or evening. that is the latest on the national weather service. currently at 9.8 feet. in the coca river -- maquoketa river in manchester, it should crest at 17.8 feet sometime tonight. and cedar rapids we have cloud cover. a little bit of sunshine. still light showers south of us.

72 in waterloo. 72 and manchester. 66 interview. 71 in tama. dew points are humid. the cold front has not move through. we're in the 60s and 70s. when we look the winds, 4-8 miles per hour. gusting to 15. statewide, 60s., 70s and 80s. we are currently at these levels. 90s in the southern part of iowa. there are 60s to the north. is finally pressing toward the east and falling apart. it will continue to do so as the dave rose on. this entire storm complex moves toward the northeast. it will take with at the clouds. we get a break tonight. we have dry, sunny weather tomorrow. were showers moving for saturday night into sunday. here is predicted. there goes that moisture through the afternoon and

everything starts upstream and works its way down. we take you to the cedar valley. the morning show host a bookie in brooks joins us on the phone this afternoon. buck, it's an awfully wet up your way the last couple days. set the scene for me and what you've been dealing with up there in the cedar valley this morning. >> well, a lot of the pressure right now is an shell rock and the shell rock river as they are about to crest it looks like at what will be working its way down. in downtown waterloo in cedar falls, not a lot of issues yet. some of the bike paths that run on the river are underwater that that is designed to be that way. they are working on putting up the aqua walls and start closing off some of the bridges at least the park avenue bridge in downtown waterloo. i was out there a half hour ago. traffic is still going across but you can see crews working

eventually i think fifth and sixth, a limit and 18th bridges may be closed. i think the 18th bridges the highest we have in downtown waterloo right now that is what it is. it's more about preparation than anything else. most of this is an charles city and shell rock working its way to us. >> he will go to the shell rock graphic. you mentioned that record crest. this is a bit above where it was in 2008 and we will go to the cedar falls and waterloo one next. when it comes to sandbagging, have you seen folks out and about? i know cedar five -- cedar ball -- falls has a high embankment. >> i was out walking around and it's more of a conversation. there hasn't been a lot of sandbagging in cedar falls and waterloo. evansdale, of the three in our main metro and black hawk county, that's the one that needs more sandbagging. they did a bunch last night.

now it's expected to happen again. eight years after the catastrophic flood. major flooding is now forecast along the cedar river from waterloo to vinton, halo and cedar rapids. right now the river is not expected to reach levels seen in 2008 it is forecasted to crest around 24 feet early next week in cedar rapids. but there could be major impacts on thousands of people, homes and businesses. one of the oldest neighborhoods and cedar rapids is no stranger to flooding. melanie moore want to czech village to see how people there are making sure history does not repeat itself. >> reporter: cedar rapids city officials share projections and preparations for possible flooding. the czech village is trying to figure out how they will respond. >> for us we are going through and prioritizing what equipment and different things we need to get out first. that's the most crucial for our business to reopen afterwards. in her business went nine feet
