we will find a sunshine later today as these clouds and showers move out. the full forecast coming up including what's ahead for the weekend in 10 minutes. >> one business that closed its doors to prepare for flood 2016 may not be reopening at all. that's even though it was untouched by flood waters. >> the best westerns cooper mills hotel is talking about a possible buyout before the flooding. they have been in talks with the property owners for a year. the city had the property value assessed and made a purchase agreement for more than $5 million. once they close for flooding they decided to move forward with the sale.>> we have a signed purchase agreement from the property owner that will be presented. it will be on the city council agenda for october 11. it's recommended for approval

but police are taking it seriously. the sightings have been reported in every part of the country. university of iowa police took multiple reports this week. in cedar rapids someone reported clowns following them down the street. >> police tracked down the students in this photo. they told police they thought it would be funny to jessop as clowns. although a gag in most cases some sightings in other parts of the country have been linked to assaults. >> as that crazy sightings have continue a professional clown says it's not funny. performs at parties and parades . he is concerned most of those gigs could get canceled. at his shop the costume emporium he says he's wondering if customers dressing up for halloween will avoid the normal popular evil clown masks.>> clowns are meant to be happy, funny and bring enjoyment to

declared state of emergency. state leaders are telling residents in affected areas to evacuate now.>> if you think you will have to evacuate, go do it now before the roads get clogged. >> if you do not get out in time you may get stuck. that's the worst case scenario to be stuck on the coast and have no place to go because you do not meet the evacuation time. >> forecasters expect the storm to brush up against the coast of the us by the end of the week. >> reside are taking no chances. lines at gas stations across the miami area were packed as drivers filled their cars before the storm's arrival. residents went to grocery stores to stock up on food, water and emergency supplies. mandatory evacuation start this morning for some people who live in flood prone areas. >> in cedar rapids community school district is working on taking a new approach to make sure kids get to school. it started with a pilot program at right elementary.

school year is chronically absent. the students at a higher risk of missing milestones and are likely to drop out of school. the district says on any given day more students are at schools but there are certain schools that are gone a lot. >> it helps us to know who we need to target. we need to provide information -- information to messaging to and interventions to. we need to reach out can we support you and help you remove these barriers to your attendance. >> district officials say cedar rapids schools want to be more supportive so families can reach out if they need help taking sure their child is in school. >> today is international walk to school day and the corridor kids are taking to the streets. >> stephanie johnson is in cedar johnson. where are you now? >> reporter: i'm heading to jackson elementary and soon a lot more kids will be walking

and moving. the cedar rapids community school district is one of many districts taking part to support i was efforts to become a healthier state. all 99 counties will participate. jackson elementary and johnson stamp academy -- steam academy are among those walking. all the students from jackson elementary will take a group picture. this is a perfect opportunity for parents to teach their kids of the safety tips they need to get to school safely while walking. covering the corridor stephanie johnson cbs two news. >> this morning and iowa state university with thousands of dollars in donations were used at university pallets five the school's president on personal trips. an ap review of the billing record showed flights were used to take the president and his family members to attend a ncaa passed the ball tournament game. these trips of being observed
