cedar rapids is prepared to spend up sandbags in the city.more than 10-thousand-tons of sand was used to protect the city from flood 20-16.many areas of cedar rapids were untouched by the cedar river, leaving most of the sandbags dry.the city tells cbs 2 news - crews will start by picking up the bags on the northwest side.it will take crews roughly three weeks to collect all of the sandbags. work on the sinclair levee begins tomorrow.the levee is

newbo district.these begins tomorrow. it is part of the flood control area for the nouveau district. the 130 foot base and the walls which will protect up to 2008 flood levels. the 14 million-dollar project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. there has been a lot of learning going on in spite of a day off for local kids. many local teachers students. connor morgan joins us live in the studio to explain what they learned. it is interesting to think of teachers being taught. what is more interesting is learning from a celebrity. i have to ask, who was one of your idols when you were growing up?>> harrison ford. -- >> reporter: that's a good choice. think about taking an acting class from harrison ford.

under the lights at linn-mar stadium. news anchor scott sanborn is live .>> reporter: a use my out -- huge milestone, karen. when they asked me to host the marching band classic 20 years ago, i never thought we would be here 20 years later. you have raised over half $1 million for the 7 local area cedar rapids it is a spectacular event. not only are high school marching bands playing, but the panthers marching band from the university of iowa is playing. there is no competition, it's about having fun and raising money for the marching bands. somebody that has been doing this for a long time is my buddy scott. how are you doing? what a nice night we are having. >> terry has come through for

tonight .>> reporter: terry says the weather is going to hold and i know you have been checking too. you have seen this morph in more than ways than one. i started as mc and then you came on board.>> we started at the center and now we are outdoors. we have had gorgeous weather and we get to see a 28 bands here. we've been able to add in the university bands. we added the iowa state and which is the iowa band will be here tonight. it is fun to see those folks. what is cool is the high school kids perform and they get to see the university band. we fill in with a great high school members from the cedar rapids area. we fill up with bands from the university as well. >> it's a great recruiting tool for the university. >> absolutely. >> reporter: you and i are

there is somebody else that will be here. >> justin roberts will be here and it will be good having him on the field to celebrate 20 years. it is a wonderful event to raise funds for the high school band problems -- programs. it's going to be a lot of fun. >> reporter: there are still tickets available and all of the ticket money raised goes to the high school marching bands. over half $1 million over 20 years. covering linn-mar stadium, i am scott at 6:00. that is quite a lot of change over the years with the fundraisers.>> we have a musically inclined area here. a lot of the bands are exceptional around here.>> scott plays drums in case you didn't know. he is loving it. and the weather is participating too. are the showers going to hold

there may be some spits of rain which is something we will have to deal with for a few hours before the system should south tomorrow morning. now we have clouds in the sky after earlier today with temperatures in the 70s. now we are down the 64 with the south/southeast wind at 7. the clouds continue to advance across the midwest. this disturbance is headed towards us. it is not very strong and it will bring some showers and night. here are the high temperatures and with the sunshine, the readings got to the 70s this afternoon. we were above the average. davenport was one of the warm places with a balmy 75 this afternoon. now, temperatures are back in the 60s and here and there we have seen some light showers. nothing that has amounted to a great deal.

and scattered and they are tracking from southwest to northeast. a batch moved through cedar rapids a while ago. there are some showers to the southwest better a bit stronger. even thunderstorms and southwestern iowa. after sunset, these will weaken quite a bit and the main focus will be in the northern and western counties. west of cedar rapids is the best chance of significant showers. now when we go to the satellite, you can see the disturbance right here and a is producing snow in canada tonight. so that cold front is something we will have to deal with on wednesday. ahead of it, we will have sunshine blowing through a southwesterly wind. it will be a beautiful day with temperatures in the 70s around eastern iowa during the afternoon hours. then, look at what happens. the front comes through and by wednesday evening at 5:00, a

counties will be down in the 40s. a 20-25 degree temperature drop between wins -- between tuesday and wednesday in eastern iowa. been here are the showers we were talking about moving through the western counties. then they kick off to the northeast and at 6:00 a.m., we see the client -- the sky start to clear. we will be in the sunshine it looks to be a fine day and eaer off on wednesday. look for lows tonight be in the 50s around eastern iowa. 53-57 in the overall range. a few showers in the northwestern counties. tomorrow the clouds moved out and the temperatures take off and everybody should be in the 70s. low to mid 70s looks to be the range. wind out of the south at 25. here's the long-range outlook with a chance of a few showers. that is the day when the temperatures cool off. by thursday morning, down to
