so your forecast, mostly sunny, cool and calm. a nice fall day. readings will be in the middle to upper 50s, not as cold tonight. it will be cool, though, could see some patchy frost north of highway 30 as temperatures will be in the middle to upper 30s, and this cool fall weather won't last long. a warming trend will start tomorrow. that will last into the weekend. i'll let you know how we warm up in just a few minutes in your weather first forecast. >> thanks, brandon. a developing story this morning in the race for the white house. the donald trump campaign is on lawyers are demanding the "new york times" retract a story that was accomplished yesterday. >> in that at least two women claim thad donald trump touched them inappropriately and against their will. trump's lawyers called the article reckless, defamatory and constitutes libel. they say it's nothing more than a politically-motivated effort to defeat his chance at winning the election. one woman says trump tried to put his hand up her skirt more than three decades ago the other says trump tried to kiss her in trump tower back

now from trump's past that's coming back to haunt him again. "entertainment tonight" found video of trump in 1992 talking off camera to a group of 10 years old. the republican nominee can be heard saying that he would be dating one of them in 10 years. the video is shot in the lobby of trump tower in new york for a christmas story. so far there's no official response from the trump campaign. donald trump's sexually- explicit remarks now have one top eye the federation of republican women submitted her resignation wednesday. melissa guessing says trump's lewd comments are the reason for her departure. the group's national president released a statement monday affirming the organization stood behind trump despite condemning his comments. in her resignation letter, guessing said, quote, i cannot in good consciences lead this organization. one in every six adults has experienced sexual violence. >> for them the term sexual assault is more than just a

local survivors' advocates asked the public to be careful when they're talking about sexual assault. in the corridor of the rape victims advocacy program reports seeing more people who have felt triggered over the past week with recent political headlines. >> we can get into sometimes politically or socially arguments about whether it fits in a locker room, whether it fits anywhere at all, and i think it's important to have those dialogues, but also important to >> if you do need to talk to somebody, the rape victim advocacy program says to please reach out. we have all that information on our website at cbs2iowa.com. democratic nominee hillary clinton is now facing new scrutiny of her own right now over leaked e-mails from wikileaks. at issue is a 2011 paper trail showing a paid speech by clinton's husband that wasn't yet approved by the state department. until four months after the speech had already taken place in saudi arabia.

bill clinton's fee was $300,000. critics say the speech was a conflict of interest because at the time saudi arabia was seeking a major arms deal with the united states. that arms deal went there later that year. the state department is defending its practices. former president bill clinton barely mentioned donald trump in iowa yesterday, focusing more on his wife's policies. he laid out her plans for affordable college, making sure that students can refinance their loans and have manageable monthly payments. clinton's visit in i evening right here on cbs 2. we'll be there to recap his event and visit this evening right here on cbs 2. two cedar rapids police officers are now cleared in the shooting death of markel biffens. last month officers respondd to a domestic disturbance at the valley high amounts on edgewood drive. investigation determined that bivins ignored the officers' orders to drop a knife.the attorney general's office says

choice but to use deadly officers' orders to drop a knife. the officers were left with no choice but to use deadly force. the wynn county sheriff's office is now looking to buy body cameras for dozens of law enforcement officers. the county wants to buy 65 body cameras for just under $120,000. they'd be designed to work with current patrol car dash cameras. video would automatically upload when deputies arrive at the station. 7;23;19;21 theres also this officer safety measure we're very much looking forward to as we can capture things as they occur so that no longer do you have to you know what exactly happened there or what did we see there or what did the officer see it's going to be right there on camera so you'll be able to pick it up from there. 15 15county supervisors will discuss whether or not to approve the purchase during a meeting next monday.if they order them - it would take 30 days to get them in house. still - they wouldn't be used until a policy is put in place. hurricane matthew has killed more people in the south-eastern part of the united states. states.the powerful storm

flood waters kept rising.some rivers in north carolina still haven't crested -- rising almost two feet higher than normal.the rivers aren't supposed to crest until this weekend -- so it might be several days until many of the flood waters start to recede. that means the thousands of people that have been displaced will be out of their homes longer. in florida -- a federal judge is extending the voter registration deadline because of hurricane matthew.the new deadline is now next tuesday. the florida democratic party and ot hillary clinton's campaign -- argued that extended voter registration was needed because of the effects of the storm.last week -- republican governor rick scott said he didn't "intend to make rick scott said he didn't just one week after hurricane matthew - another powerful storm is threatening an island nation in the atlantic ocean. ocean.hurricane nicole stregthened into a category four storm - and is moving straight to bermuda.it's less than 200 miles south-west of

welcome back and good morning. it is 6:10. most areas starting thursday morning off in the upper 20s to low 30s. that's why we have a freeze warning in effect for most of the area until 9:00 a.m. also a frost advisory for cedar and washington county. that goes until 9:00 a.m. as well.

current temperature temperature in cedar rapids, 31 degrees. we haven't been below freezing since april 12th. so it's been about six months since we had a temperature this low. winds are pretty light, northwest around seven miles per hour. temperatures areawide, still upper 20s from o line back towards charles city. tamma at 39, iowa city at 35, 32 in monticello and dubuque at 34 degrees this hour. temperatures from just 24 hours ago, yesterday morning at this time we were in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees, much different now. anywhere f degrees colder all throughout eastern iowa, so that cold air is really in place. it's in place all over the state of iowa. upper 40 franchise fort dodge towards sioux city, des moines currently at 35 and temperatures only climb into the 50s for most areas as we get into this afternoon. winds which were gusty to near 30 miles per hour yesterday, calm now to around 7 miles per hour here in cedar rapids. so the winds will be on the light side as we get into the afternoon. not much to show on satellite and radar which is a good thing. that's why temperatures took

of that clear sky. we'll keep sunshine in the forecast today. a cool thursday, warmer and breezy tomorrow, a warming trend then starts tomorrow that will last into the weekend. it'll be mild as temperatures will get back to the 70s for saturday, sunday and into the early part of next week. forecasted high temperatures across the state, the consensus has mainly 50s. 56 in cedar rapids, waterloo 56 as well. des moines back towards klaren could see 60 degrees. your hour-by-hour forecast, co with plenty of sunshine and then your afternoon temperature, a high of 56 around 4:00 this afternoon. that sunshine will be deceiving, though, as it's not going to warm up all that much. here is our next storm system taking place now, getting together over the pacific northwest. that will get into here late saturday into early sunday it looks right now. high pressure is going to remain in control of our weather for the next couple days. it'll move off to the east later on tomorrow morning into the afternoon hours, and that will create a southerly flow

degrees warmer than we are today. and there is that storm system that will come through and get into our area, bringing a cold front through late saturday evening. your forecast today, mostly sunny, cool and calm. overall a nice fall day. it'll be cool with temperatures in the middle to upper 50s. it won't be as cold tonight, but still most areas will be in the middle to upper 30s, mostly clear, could see patchy frost mainly north of highway 30. looking at readings, like i mentioned, in the middle to upper 30s. then your extended forecast about 10 degrees warmer tomorrow with a high 73 for saturday as a front does move through. that will bring showers and maybe a few thunderstorms to the area late saturday night into early sunday morning. a temperature of 74 on sunday. that cold front will kind of linger around the area and rise as a warm front as it begins to lift to the north. so we could see maybe a few thunderstorms on sunday afternoon, and then temperatures stay pretty mild as we get into the early part of next week with temperatures there in the upper 70s. >> we see those clouds on friday, but for most of the day

welcome back -- it's now we're taking a look at your??????? your??????? morning, 6:19 right now. it is 35 degrees in iowa city. just into the newsroom this hour, nine boston police officers are now being treated for injuries connected to that shootout overnight that left one suspect dead. they were responding to a domestic dispute and a report of a man with a gun. two officers had gunshot wounds, they're in critical condition this morning. the other officers are now being treated for minor injuries, stress and trauma.

good morning. it is 6:25. some of the coldest temperatures we've seen in nearly six months this morning here in eastern iowa. that's why we have a freeze warning out for most of the area until 9:00. also a frost advisory back toward the quad cities, cedar county and wacialght until 9:00 as well. we'll see sunshine tod. deceiving, though. it will be be cool fall temperatures in the middle to upper 50s area wide. not as cool tonight, still cold, some patchy frost mainly areas north of highway 30. mid- to upper 30s area wide. tomorrow 10 degrees warmer with a high of 66. and then we're back into the 70s for the weekend as a front moves through late saturday night into sunday. we'll see some showers, maybe a couple thunderstorms saturday evening.

this morning. also a frost advisory from the quad cities back towards cedar and washington county. that is in effect until 9:00 this morning as well. as we take a look at current conditions in cedar rapids, 31. we haven't been below freezing in nearly six months, since april 12th. so it is cold. a northwest wind pretty light at 7 miles per hour. temperatures across the area, upper 20s from charles city back to waterloo and tama. iowa city at 35, monticello at 30 and dubuque at 34 this hour, compared to yesterday at upper 50s to around 60 degrees. obviously not the case today. anywhere from about 18 to 20 to 26 degrees colder than just 24 hours ago as this cold dome of high pressure is keeping us cold this morning. upper 20s back towards northwest iowa, 35 in des moines, 33 in lamoni. temperatures not going to warm up all that much today. we'll get into that here in just a few minutes. and the winds which were gusty to around 30 miles per hour yesterday are calm to around 7

hours. satellite not picking up much if any clouds which we're going to keep the sunshine in the forecast today. it'll be cool. temperatures will be in the missed 50s today, but maybe 10 degrees warmer tomorrow. it'll be breezy for your friday and that will set the stage for a mild weekend as we'll get back into the 70s saturday, sunday, and that will continue into the early part of the new week. as far as forecasted highs today, 50s pretty much the consensus all across iowa. des moines 59, could see 60 degrees in parts of southwest iowa today. as we go through the next 12 hours. sunshine, temperatures will get up to, like i mentioned, the middle 50s by around 4:00 this afternoon. so while high pressure and sunshine is in control of our weather, in the pacific northwest there is our next storm system which is just coming ashore. that will get into our area late saturday night into sunday morning. high pressure currently will move off to the east when we get into the late afternoon hours today. it'll continue to push east overnight into the day tomorrow. that will give us a southerly

into the mid-60s and then here is this low pressure system with a cold front. that will move through late saturday night into sunday, bringing us the next chance of rain. today mostly sunny, cool and calm. overall a nice fall arch with temperatures in the middle to upper 50s nice fall afternoon with temperatures in the middle to upper 50s. mostly clear tonight, could see a patchy frost. areas north of highway 30 the best chance for frost as temperatures will be in the middle to upper 30s area wide. tomorrow about 10 degrees warmer, 66 with plenty of 73 for saturday. that front comes through late saturday night into sunday bringing showers and a couple thunderstorms. and then as the front does push to the south, it'll kind of stall and lift as a warm front, so we could see additional showers and storms on sunday. we'll have to watch that. and the mild stretch will continue into monday. upper 70s, some areas could see 80 degrees and the 70s will continue into tuesday before dropping off into the 60s by the middle of next week. >> thank you, brandon. here's a look at some of eastern iowa's top stories now
