iowa hawkeyes bring home that w against purdue boilermakers. highlights from the game. even though the team was on the road, that didn't stop their biggest fans from cheering on home turf. >> this is amazing. it's fun. lots of smiles. i need to order some more food. >> the veterans who had the best seats in the house to watch the hawks. more than a thousand others - hope to make alzheimers a distant memory. memory. now, the corridor's top stories and tomorrow's weather first forecast in the first ten minutes. this is cbs 2 news 10 at 10. good evening.we begin tonight with a huge hawkeye battle in west lafayette - - as iowa took it - on the road - - in a contest that was never really in doubt.

break the hawks streak of wins away from home. home.our cbs 2 sports team was there and pat moroney joins us with a first look at the highlights. pat? so far this season - iowa's learned one thing - the hard way - they can't afford to overlook anybody - not even a purdue team that's won just three conference games in four seasons... the hawks went to west lafayette - and took care of business on saturday...first quarter - third and goal from the 16 - c.j. beathard has nobody runs - c-j goes untouched into the end zone to put iowa up 14- zero... later in the half - it's turning into a rout - leshun daniels gets to the edge and lumbers in for his second touchdown of the game - it was huge day on the ground for the hawks... for daniels - and for akrum wadley - end of the half - big hole - and wadley shows some of that burst - nobody's catching number-25 - a 75 yard touchdown sprint puts iowa up big at half...and they hold on

to 35... i thought we came out and played with good balance - good efficiency - the team is businesslike but played with good intensity - certainly good to get another road victory - happy about that too - road victories are tough, period - and certainly getting them in conference is never easy easywe'll have much more hawkeye football coverage later on in sports... the hawks on the road today- but people still cheered for the black and gold on their home veterans and thier families filled the kinnick stadium press box for a special tailgate. they all got to watch a live broadcast of the iowa - purdue game.at halftime - everyone could ventured down and hang out on the field.this is the third year for the free event. "this just came about through free veteran event. >> this just came about through a discussion of having an outreach event that we could

some camaraderie between veterans and do some networking and learn about veterans benefits. >> the johnson county commission of veterans affairs sponsored the event. the commission just wanted to show their appreciation for the area's military veterans. it was another mild day. we had a high of 71 in cedar rapids. right now we are at 67, mostly cloudy, and our temperatures areawide are 60s for all eastern iowa, 65 in waterloo, 67 iowa city, 65 in dub dozen. showers and storms -- 65 in dubuque. showers and storms are starting to light up the radar. they stretch back towards iowa city, johnson county, and also washington and keokuk county. here's a brief shower. these will continue to move to the north and east throughout the evening.

do see some scattered showers, mainly in our southeastern counties. by 11:00 tomorrow the rain has pushed off and we are left with mostly cloudy skies for sunday. tomorrow mightily cloudy, patchy fog, mainly along and north of interstate 80. low 60s areas south. i'll let you know how long these mild temperatures will continue in the weather first forecast. >> "10@10" continues with more of the corridor's top birch hall at that time university is opening a gin after it was locked down earlier tonight. campus police say a student reported that a prepped called him about someone with a gun at that residence hall. minutes later, the student called back to say his friend was joking about an active shooter. both were brought in for questioning. no word yet on any charges. police say they did not issue a hawk alert because they quickly determined that it was a false report. tonight is the big night.

rapids band crazy delicious is performing their last show with their current lead singer. we are live there. right now they are on a set break. this is at the chrome horse saloon in cedar rapids. it is a packed house. that's because the leading lady is stepping off stage tonight to fight breast cancer before it has a chance to fight her. in december she's having a double mastectomy followed by self more surgeries. she doesn't have breast cancer but she does have the brca gene. crazy delicious will live on after tonight with lead singer joey. we've been following her story so go to our website, cbs2iowa.com, and see the story and if you want to check out crazy delicious head out to the chrome horse right now. also right now in the newbo

trail to prepare for the final presidential debate next week. tonight she is at her home in clap chappaqua, new york. today donald trump spoke at a campaign rally in new hampshire. during that rally the republican presidential candidate suggested hillary clinton uses performance- enhancing drugs for the debates. trump compared the candidates to athletes saying is athletes have to take drug tests. trump says both he and clinton should have to take drug tests before the final debate. >> we should take a drug test prior, because i don't know what's going on with her, but at the beginning of her last debate, she was all pumped up at the beginning, and at the end it was like, oh, take me down.

and i can't tell you how good it makes me feel to come out here and see that i'm not alone." tina's husband mark was diagnosed with a visual variant of alzheimer's four years ago."these past four years and the changes that we've made, we just stay strong together and i love him so much and i don't see the disease when i look at mark. i see my husband and the love of my life."tina isn't alone - and neither is her husband. mark is one of more than 5 million americans battling the degenerative disease. 64 in olwine, iowa city at 67, dubuque at 65 this hour. wind not much of a factor out of the south-southwest 3 to 7 miles per hour. a cold front is moving through that is developing some showers and thunderstorms as you can see here east of animosa, also back to the west and also some showers and storms in eastern keokuk county. as we zoom in we have one just through iowa the northeast as we go through the night. here is our predictor mold. as we put it into motion, around 1:00 in the morning still seeing showers east of cedar rapids, south of dubuque. overnight they do quickly move off into illinois. around 8:00 we start out mostly cloudy with some areas of fog, then the clouds do overspread the area biaround 6:00 tomorrow night. then you can see here as we get into monday, early monday morning some light showers,

into monday afternoon. temperatures up around 80 for highs. showers and storms, cloudy tomorrow, very summerlike on monday. we have this cold front that is moving through with showers and storms. here's a front around midnight. it continues to press to the southeast, then it stalls out, then it will lift as a warm front by the time we get into the afternoon hours tomorrow. it will continue to lift to the north and the southerly flow will come up. here comes another cold front sometime monday night. this doesn't have a lot of rain so it's looking like it is going to be a dry front but it is going to take a few days. as far as rainfall tonight, not expecting a whole lot with these showers. a few hundredths of an inch. our temperatures tonight will be in the low six. tomorrow looking at mid 70s. look off to the west in parts of nebraska and kansas.

into our area coming up on monday. so your forecast tonight, scattered showers and thunderstorms, patchy fog mainly along i-80 and north. upper 50s to the north, looking at low 60 everywhere else. then your forecast tomorrow, a shower early, otherwise some morning fog. mostly cloudy, maybe a few peeks of sunlight. another mild day with temperatures in the low to mid- 70s, maybe upper 70s from iowa city down towards washington. in your extended forecast 81 for monday, typically our last 80 of okay 9th. very unusual warmth indeed. 70 for tuesday. the cool air finally gets in here on wednesday and thursday. morning lows will be tin 30s but highs will wrap up the week, logging at mid to upper 50s. tonight in sports, all iowa all day long in west lafayette. highlights and reaction coming

the heat is about to get turned up on the hawkeyes - next week >> the heat is about to get turned up on next week they start a brutal three-game stretch. wisconsin at home, at penn state, then back for michigan. but for those games to matter iowa had to get past purdue. the last time the hawks lost to the boilermakers back in 2012, it wasn't going to happen in west lafayette today. c.j. beathard kills them with the legs. touchdown to make it 14-0. next

makes it 21-zero after one... end of the half now - when akrum wadley touches the ball - magic happens - one cut and wadley is gone - a 75-yard scoot - all the way home - 35-7 at the half... it got a little close in the final minutes - but desmond king squashed any hopes purdue had - he breaks on the ball - gets the pick - and takes it all the way back for the icing on hopes. takes it all icing on the cake. a good day all around. they win 49-35. the hawks add huge day on the ground, rushing for 365 yards. that's the most an iowa team has rushed for since 2002. zach hanley has more on iowa's rushing attack. >> it wasn't a one-two punch from the hawkeye run game. it was a knock-out blow that just kept coming. 170 yards, as well as daniels

wing on the road in the big 12 is tough. winning in the state of texas seems almost impossible for the cyclones. they have dropped eight in a row in the lone star state, and the longhorns look to make it nine in a row on saturday night. matt campbell's team made the trip to austin to take on texas. first quarter, always good to get your star players involved. a curl route. lazard breaks free for a 30- yard gain. that sets up a field goal. next dri heck of a play from the sophomore linebacker - that led to three more points...but after that - texas made all the plays - shane buechele chucks it deep for devin duvernay - bad news for the iowa state secondary - they get burnt... and it was all burnt orange in austin... texas beats iowa state, 27 to 6 - the cyclones are off next week - they'll look for their first big twelve win on the 29th against kansas state... another week - another
