covering the corridor in cedar rapids, dora miller, cbs 2 news. while some areas of the corridor are still cleaning up from the last flood, forecasters already are working on the next one. one.cbs 2 news anchor matt hammill was there when the theiowa flood center and national weather service met today in cedar rapids. this of course one of the big areas of concern - near the cedar river.as we just found out in september - the next flood could be next century or next week. week.either way the flood center and weather service says we can all make ourselves more aware of the risk in our own neighborhoods.the iowa flood center now displays what are called flood inundation maps on its website.

inundation maps on its website. it says with the 22 or 26 foot flood crest that it translates just how bad that could be. the flood center director says, make no mistake, there will be a next time.>> there are indications based on scientific analysis and the data as well as some that implied these kinds of events will continue. so, nobody can tell you exactly how often and how much and exactly where.>> reporter: this is an area as a concern for the wear. more than 80,000 users came to the flood center website during the most recent flood. the director says he hopes more will come and check it out. it is user-friendly and it will tell them their risk for the

tonight -- corridor tonight in cedar rapids, cbs 2 news just like the visual arts building and the auditorium, the music building is now ready to see. mellaney moore got a sneak peek and she joins us live from iowa city.>> reporter: karen, it took three years to plan and three years to build the music building. now, all of the university of iowa's music students are back under for the university of iowa music students, class is starting on a high note. the 2008 flood separated the school of music to several locations on and off campus. now they have one brand-new $152 million home. is the place to learn together. >> it is awesome and very motivating to practice in these awesome rooms that are new.

it makes me excited to perform. >> reporter: the 190,000 ft.2 includes performance spaces, rehearsal rooms and 65 practice rooms. all of them have state-of-the- art equipment, design and acoustics. >> the halls are not only great for the patrons who come to see the contract -- the concerts, but they are important to students who need that feedback in order to perform in ways that they are being taught.>> reporter: he says he let -- working with instructors and a supportive environment. >> it's incredible to see. also the opportunity to see the general public throw into our facility and come into our concerts is wonderful.>> reporter: the building is such a hit that some seniors wish that they had more time to experience it. >> i'm not going to lie. i am lucky to have one year here, but it does make me a little jealous to see where

it's troubling. congressman blum actually co-sponsored a bill that could make it legal for a woman to be fired t. and blum tried to defund planned parenthood, even though women depend on it for critical care, like cancer screenings. i was diagnosed with breast cancer, and i know it was early detection that made a difference. it's not a political issue. it's about caring about all of our people here in this country.

there during the afternoon. it has been a toasty october for us here in eastern iowa. in cedar rapids, the average temperature so far this month has come out to 70.5 degrees. we have had 11 days with temperatures 70 degrees or above. the worst day so far this month was a high of 55. not too bad. right now at this juncture in the month, temperatures at six -- or 6.6 degrees above normal which is a huge departure. in the past 24 hours, a front has passed a crossed eastern iowa and it's now over the eastern great lakes states. we had high pressure building in and and that certainly did clear out the skies and bring sunshine. while the temperatures were cooler today, the breeders -- readings were still above normal. as we go to the radar, there is no rain to be found along eastern iowa. we have a dry weather pattern and that will last through the rest of the week.

72 in cedar rapids and dubuque. waterloo had 71. up near the border, temperatures were in the upper 60s this afternoon. the normal high is 60-61 and we were still 10-12 degrees above that today. now that the sun is setting out there, temperatures are cooling off in the dry air and readings are in the mid to upper 60s. there are clouds trying to show up in most of these are just high, thin clouds. they will increase in the skies next front take shape out to the west of us. that will come across tomorrow night. as we go to the predictor, you will notice that as we go through the nighttime hours that after midnight there will be some showers -- clouds across the area. overall i think of mixture of sun and clouds will do it. we will call it partly cloudy and the temperatures will

upper 60s to lower 70s for one more day. as you can see, we are thinking 67-68 tomorrow afternoon in cedar rapids. a front comes through tomorrow night. no rain is expected, but maybe a sprinkle in the far south. toward thursday, you can see cooler air and the high temperature at just 56 degrees. another nice thing about the forecast is that it looks like it will be dry all the way through sunday. that is the rainfall forecast and there is nothing showing up in eastern iowa. that is great news for you who like they are showing up here in eastern iowa. this picture was taken by paul brooks in muscatine county. it should be a good weekend to get out and about and enjoy it. high temperatures at 45-49 degrees. cool, calm and collected conditions. a few clouds and otherwise a nice day. 60s in the north to around 70 in the south. there is the extended forecast. 50s for thursday and friday with sunshine. you can see a warm-up is
