coming up in about 12 minutes. hillary clinton is hoping to help democrats take control of congress. and donald trump supporters are buying into his claims that the system is rigged. we have the latest from the campaign trail. >> hillary clinton goes north to new hampshire monday afternoon. a democratic leaning state is likely to vote for clinton. but it is also he governor and the incumbent republican senator the clinton campaign feels comfortable trying to help congressional candidates because recent polls show her lead over trump expanding. >> all over the country, i will tell you, we are seeing evidence that this could be a very big and historic win for hillary clinton. >> donald trump access biggest problem in the polls is the gender gap.

murley with the district until 2019. while iowa city is the 5-th largest district in the state - murley is only the 11th highest paid superintenden t in iowa.he will now make 215- thousand dollars for this current year and 226-thousand next school year. in cedar rapids - first avenue and second street south-east at yesterday afternoon.the woman hit - is expected to be okay - the driver - has been charged with failing to yield at a cross-walk. a second murder trial is now underway for a cedar rapids man already convicted of another murder.travis standlee was sentenced to up to 50 years in prison for second- degree murder in the killing of raymond ursino in september 20-15. 15.today he'll stand trial for the killing of sharon mead.her

days after ursino's death.this trial is taking place in davenport because of pretrial publicity in cedar rapids. despite recent flooding damaging many towns in iowa - the number of flood insurance policies sold in the state - dropped by 22-percent over the past five years. years.officials say it's hard to pinpoint exactly why homeowners shy away from them. some homeowners may have dropped coverage when premimums increased.some towns are also buying out homes in flood-prone areas.still - there are more policies state- wide right now - than in 2008 - when massive floods caused five-billion dollars in damage in cedar rapids. cedar rapids community members will meet to talk about safety and security following flood 2016.officials will also look at how youth partnerships are coming along so far this year.

safety of neighborhoods.the meeting will take place at four this afternoon in the police department community room and there will be a public comment period. health experts are now aiming to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome - or sids. sids.cbs 2 news reporter stephanie johnson is here to explain the new recommendation. on.jenee -- about thirty-five hundred babies die every year from sleep related deaths. deaths.now the american academy of pediatrics is recommending babies and parents to share the same room. ninety percent of sids cases happen before a baby is six months old.experts recommend infants and parents to sleep in the same bedroom for at least the first six months of life but ideally for the first year to be safe. experts believe this could decrease sids related deaths. "the studies that were done looking at the reduction in risk of sids really were done

life and we know that reduction can be as much as 50 percent ." ."experts recommend parents not to sleep in the same bed with their infant. parents should also remove soft bedding---a baby's mattress should be firm---lastly parents should remove all toys and pillows out of the crib to avoid suffocation. additionally - the a-a-p says breastfeeding can reduce the risk of sids by as much as seventy percent.stephanie johnson cbs 2 news. coming up on the cbs 2 news at noon,we're road trippin' - just a few hours away - to the birthplace of one of hollywood's most well-known act.

a-t-and-t and time warner have agreed to one of the largest mergers the industry has ever s. seen. welcome back. at&t and time warner agreed to one of the largest mergers in industry history. the two companies came to terms on a deal worth $85 billion. at&t's business is traditionally based on wireless and internet service. but the merger would allow the company to expand it to programming and gain access to time warner's channels li government regulators still need to approve the deal. that could take more than a year to complete. this year, u.s. shoppers are excited to spend more on halloween compared to last year. the national retail federation says on average, shoppers will spend just over $82 per person. that is about $8 higher than a year ago. and while political costumes will be popular for adults, for
