cbs2iowa.com . students at kennedy high school are drawing attention to homelessness. stephanie, she is live there at kennedy high school to tell us how they are doing this. good morning, stephanie.>> reporter: good morning. as you take a look around me, the students have left. they were here overnight, raising awareness or homelessness in the area. next to me is benedict. or you? >> i'm fine. >> reporter: tell me about this awareness. >> we started in 2002. we had eight students that year. it has grown. we had 100 it has grown. we had 150. kids have taken it to heart. they have more fun outside and you would if you were homeless.

they appreciate it. we have had speakers come in. they understand what the need is in the city.>> reporter: how long has the school in a group been planning this? >> students start planning this after we get done with the homecoming every year. they spend three weeks on it. we have to line up the dumpster that comes out of your budget. we pay for kids to raise $20 or more. there are details that go unnoticed that they have to put on and work with the custodians and staff. they are very supportive of the mess we are about to create. we appreciate that. >> reporter: how much money did you raise the share? back about $2400. that could help agencies. it will not be there budget but
