the massive manhunt is over. oklahoma authorities shoot and kill the man accused of murdering two family members and shooting two officers. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. the fbi has obtained a search warrant to go through the newly discovered e-mails belonging to a top aide hillary clinton. fullback director james comey alerted congress to the e-mails friday less than two weeks before the election, against the advice of the justice department. comey is now facing stiff criticism for the timing of his announcement. in an op-ed piece from "the washington post" former attorney general eric holder said comey made a mistake and wrote, it is up to the director to correct his mistake, not for the sake of a political candidate or

protect our system of justice and best serve the american people. hen daniels is here in new york. good morning. >> good morning. the fbi looked through thosands of newly discovered e-mails that were found on the laptop of clinton's top aide huma abedin's estranged husband, former new york congressman anthony weiner. the late october surprise is shaking up the tight presidential race between clinton and donald trump just eight days to the election. as hillary clinton tried to move past the latest chapter into her e-mail scandal. >> i'm not stopping now. we are just getting warmed up, >> reporter: donald trump thanked the disgraced former new york congressman at the center of the investigation. >> we never thought we were going to say thank you to anthony weiner. >> reporter: running mate mike pence praised james comey for alerting congress about the newly discovered e-mails last week against the wishes of attorney general loretta lynch. >> the fbi stepping forward at .

when we look at the early vote, and many voters have already cast their ballots here as in many other states, we see that among registrants, democrats are tracking ahead of republicans. so donald trump has more work to do. >> reporter: more than 20 million people have cast their ballots already. we don't know exactly who they voted for, but what other clues can we see in that? >> democrats in many places look like they are on pace with what they want their targets to be, however, the election day vote, that might put more pressure on organizing for the trump campaign. >> reporter: it's not over yet. our cbs news elections director anthony salvanto, thanks for your time. coming up on "cbs this morning," we will talk with donald trump's campaign manager kellyanne conway. a week-long manhunt for michael vance wanted in a series of violent crimes in oklahoma is over. vance was killed in a shoot-out with a local deputy in western oklahoma last night. the sheriff was wounded in the gun battle, but is expected to survive. vance was wanted on multiple charges, including two counts of

buildings fell to the ground. it was felt in rome where buildings rocked and chandeliers sway. official say aftershocks are a major concern. a group of nuns ran for their lives when their church began to shake. firefighters cleared debris from roads to allow emergency vehicles access to the injured. entire villages that were once popular tourist attractions are now piles of rubble. in the mountainous region plumes of dust billowed above trees ca devastation on the ground. italy is recovering from a earthquake in august that killed nearly 300 people. there were no deaths from this latest quake. many people are afraid to go back indoors out of fear that there will be stronger and more powerful aftershocks. johnathan vigliotti, cbs news, london. federal officials say a rare but violent engine failure on an american airlines jet prompted an investigation of some electric engines.

"variety" reports a new claim of sexual assault from one of alfred hitchcock's leading ladies. in her new memoir, actress tippi hedren says hitchcock drew obsessed with her during the filming in 1930s. she said in their next movie,
