sitting in their squad cars one shot you they have a suspect in custody, they captured scott greene in dallas county around 9:00 is morning. just minutes after 1:00 this morning a call came in about shots fired. investigators are right to find officer martin shot, 20 minutes later and 2 miles away, i -- emergency responders found sergeant anthony beminio, he, too, had been shot, he was taken to the hospital, but later died. identified himself and hold the employee to call 911. right now, cbs2 news have has live team coverage from des moines. . a lot of families in morning, both here and in the corridor tonight because one of

if you look behind us you can see the memorial that is outside the urban the police department just continues to grow. members of the community have come to grief and pay respects all day today. officer martin 24-years-old, hired just a year ago this police chief says it appears a gunman fired up to 30 rounds into his squad. sergeant anthony beminio a ten year veteran from des moines and a graduate of iowa principal tells me this afternoon he was a -- he was a state champion wrestling and placed in the championship high school football team. he leaves behind a wife and children. on the des moines police department side, that was sergeant anthony anthony beminio, he goes by tony. great guy, a good friend of a lot of us, fantastic family man. really hard to lose tony.

anthony beminio graduated -- and the younger justin martin graduated last year i can imagine on campus it was a somber day today both officers -- both officers were athletes and played for the football team, officer martin decided to play after his sophomore year so we could pursue this career in law enforcement. >> both were dedicated to their work and it shows -- fred jones says wolfman were smart, focused and strive to do good work. jones -- he said that he knew from the time he walked on campus he was going to be a great police officers -- officer the fact that both of them were our graduates, we had a criminal just this program for a lot of years. we have all kinds of graduates in the area of criminal justice and the -- justice and the fact of them were graduates is really hit
