investigators are trying to piece together a puzzle after two officers were assassinated in des moines. the two officers both went down without warning or provocation early wednesday morning. scott turning himself in. in.cbs 2 news reporter steffi le leeis live right now in des moines.steffi - you were at the whole press conference this morning - whats the latest? des moines wingert was visibly upset -- saying everyone impacted by the deaths of the two officers did not deserve this -- calling it calculated murder that was cowardly from the way that it was carried out to the way that it ended. ended.what we know right now is that investigators have calling it cowardly and what we know now is that investigators have retrieved a rifle and they say it was hidden and ruled out but thankfully they have the

adds to the already deadly year for des moines area police departments. just months ago - they lost two other officers in a head-on collision on interstate 80. they were transporting a prisoner when a drunk driver hit them while going the wrong way down the highway.all four were transporting a prisoner when a drunk driver hit them going the wrong way down the highway all four people involved in that crash died. then in august a west des moines offic back to the apartment after hit and run case. according to the officer, 114 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty this year alone. closer to home cedar rapids officers mourned the loss of these two brothers. >> we are family.
