there were just a few scattered clouds and most part by midnight. we could have areas of fog would we wake up tomorrow morning. that could be around like we saw in some parts of the corridor for the commute tomorrow morning. temperatures in the 30s. then we get back to sunshine tomorrow afternoon and the temperature soars -- sore -- temperatures soar. we will talk about a big change and older temperatures . responding to public demands to release dashboard camera video of a police shooting. the department tells cbs 2 news that lucas jones put over jerime mitchell on november 1. mitchell started fighting with the officer in the drove away. he hit two vehicles before he was hit to the university of because it's part of a d-c-i

still on paid adminstrative leave, which is protocol for officer-involved shootings. because it is a part of an investigation. officer jones is on leave which is protocol with officer involved shootings. he was cleared and last year's shooting of jonathan gossman. the attorney says that state law prevents the release of the dashboard camera video. dora miller is live at city hall with a breakdown of fake dora. we are at a city council meeting where the cry is just this, release the tapes. they are demanding that the tapes be released so they can see what happened. the city attorney said that he cannot do it because it's unlawful. others say not so fast, there is more to it. the public information board deals with public records and

both say it is up to the lawful custodian to make the decision to release the video. the custodian is the chief of police or the county attorney. they say they are not bound by law to hold onto the video and they can release it if they want. the city plans to release the video once it is approved by the county attorney. right now that answer is not good enough for those who support jerime mitchell and his family. take a stance and say we do not support violence in this community toward any members.>> reporter: see rpd says the early release -- crpd said they are not ready to release the video. the people here says it ranks the fragile trust. for now we are in cedar rapids

miller, cbs 2 news. considering tougher penalties for those who target iowa police officers. this comes after two officers were ambushed and killed while on duty. tonight at 10:00, we look at the possible punishment and why one group says they are already tough enough. that is tonight on cbs 2 news 10 at 10. right now dozens of high school students are protesti donald trump's election victory among other things. reporter kevin barry is in met -- in the middle of the protest which so far seems to be peaceful. kevin.>> reporter: right now we are in iowa city on that pentacrest. let's take a look inside. the students brought everybody here in front of the old capital building to kind of sit here.

them. mostly this happened with a few high school kids that were discriminated against after the 2016 election results came in. they say they felt unsafe at school and people called them racial slurs and bad names in that way. their idea today is not to protest donald trump, but to protest the hate to have been feeling, even a place like iowa city. iowa city -- rather johnson county voted for bernie sanders and in the general election they voted for hillary clinton by more than double of votes. even in a very liberal place like iowa city and johnson county, they are still feeling the hate. they have march from the robert e lee community center right here to the pentacrest and they are seeing people coming out of classes at the university of iowa and people in the downtown area coming out and seeing this big march that went through the streets and intersections and is now gathered here. their goal tonight is to end at

cbs 2 this morning - it's being called the vinyl revolution..records are popular again -find out what's fueling the turn around - that's tomorrow on welcome back. we are still down here and iowa city at the pentacrest at the university of iowa where the speakers have opened the floor to members who want to say anything. this is the anti-hate rally in iowa city. this is not an anti-trump rally and they don't want this to get political. what they want to do is talk about the hatred that has come after the election and talk about how they don't want the

the most liberal areas in the state. where this came from was a few high schoolers that go to iowa city west and central high school. they were exposed to racial slurs from classmates and they felt they were not welcome. they march through downtown iowa city and they showed people that not only is this thing not right, but also they have the support of their community and that hatred is not something they will put with. they started at the robert e lee community center and they came all the way through the tiki 45 at this street and ending up here. -- pentacrest at this street and ending up here. the students plan to take grievances to the city council and tell local leaders they are upset with the way they were treated and to start a dialogue to deal with it in the future and moving forward.

there are a few scattered about the area and then they are expected to go away. as the winds lighten up, there may be some low-level moisture along with the possibility of patchy fog. i think it will be less widespread than we experienced this morning. for the morning commute tomorrow morning, a chance here and there of fog around. it will burn off quickly if it does develop. we will have sunshine in the afternoon and temperatures once again in the 60s. especially in the low-lying areas. for tomorrow it looks like sunny skies in the afternoon, mild temperatures and a big change to colder conditions as a strong front rolls into the midwest. this will be a part of a major storm that will bring heavy snow to mid western minnesota. there could be places with 15- 20 inches of snow in minnesota. you could see high-pressure to the east and the storm will

hermas with temperatures in the lower 60s. eventually the low pressure that -- develops and advances to western iowa and eventually minnesota. by the time we get to the thursday afternoon, we are fully in the warm sector of the storm. we will have brisk wind, sunshine and mild temperatures expected in eastern iowa. in fact near record highs. here is the record. 72 in cedar rapids, 73 and iowa city, 72 in waterloo and 69 dubuque. we will be in the ballpark for record highs. here is what we are expecting for the next several days. on thursday we will be 27 degrees above the normal. then the strong cold front hits and by saturday the high temperatures drop to 37 degrees and we will be up below normal for about three days. the cold blast is coming and we will see the coldest weekend that we have seen in cedar rapids since february 13 and 14th when we had tied

this will be the first back-to- back 30 -- 30s for us since march 2. still looking good with more sunshine in the skies tomorrow and another mild day. in the north tonight, low temperatures will be 32-35 degrees with spots of fog a possibility. there may be fog early on and then eventually temperatures around 35-37 degrees. for the north, look for temperatures tomor lower 60s. it will be sunny by the afternoon is the fog burns away. in the southern counties, i'm thinking 63 in cedar rapids and perhaps as warm as 66 down around sigourney. after the warm day on thursday, the front hits friday afternoon and we will see falling temperatures and maybe a few showers. friday night and saturday could have scattered showers, especially the north.
