iowa. but you can see now it's all moved off to the east of us. and we won't have to worry about any rainfall until maybe sometime late in the day on sunday. one thing we will have to deal with though is quite a bit of cloud cover. you can see there's a lot of low clouds and strattus across iowa. so that'll be tough to kick out. i do expect thanksgiving day to be mostly cloudy. if we're lucky, maybe a late day sunshine. will poke through. so if you're doing to be traveling tomorrow morning here, your commuter probably more for pleasure work. looks like temperatures should be in the mid-30s to around 30. lots of clouds. northwest winds at 5-10 as of 7:00 in the morning. and then after that, we do expect a dry day, maybe a little sunshine as we mentioned. late in the afternoon. more of the same for black friday. and finally, the rain moves back in the forecast late in the day on sunday. so overall, i'm lying things o -- liking things on the road here. cbs 2 news reporter matt hammill joins us now with the

most of the 49 - million people traveling this holiday - are on the road - because gas prices are so low. here on interstate - 380 we've seen some heavy traffic - - especially just before six oclock - as some people were leaving work - - others were leaving town - - especially just before 6:00 as some people were leaving work, others were leaving town. and yet, others were just traveling through the area. right now, pretty smooth sailing. if you don't have this actually would be an excellent time to leave. the only big problem, we really saw tonight, was on interstate 80 west. just after 6:00. [ no audio ] >> we are seeing higher fatalities. maybe due to the more favorable weather we had. definitely seeing more motorcycle fatalities. we don't want anybody to not have that are families at thanksgiving din per. so don't drive distracted.

i don't think there will be any weather or roadway issues. make sure you arrive safely. >> reporter: right now we're a reminder this is also usually a night for bars as people gather with their friends as they are back in town. police are out watching for intoxicated drivers. cbs s 2 news, 10 at 10. we continue now with a investigation of a police shooting in michigan. the wayne state university police officer who was shot in the head last night has now died. cbs s 2 news report ken barry is tracking this. >> reporter: that officer is collin rose. he was 29 years old. and we're learning a little bit more about exactly what happened. we do know, a k. 9 officer. two dogs in ms. car but they were a drug and bomb sniffing

not bring those dogs out when officer roads went out to confront what we believe was a 9 is call. we also know that one of those dogs was named who will very seen -- wolverine. after a police detroit police officer shot and killed a few years ago. and also learn more about the person arrest and suspecting of having killed officer rose. deanglo davis. local tv partners there of his arrest and him being transferred between police cars. what we know so far is that people believe he was homeless for about 5-6 years. living in a park that was nearby. he would often be seen at the homeless shelter around the apartment complex and what we have heard is that a 911 call was made right before officer rose showed up saying that somebody wanted deanglo davis to leave that area and that he wouldn't leave and so they

that's when officer collin rose developing tonight - the trial for a former substitute teacher will now be held in ?linn county beginning on monday. mary beth haglin is accused of sexually exploiting a student.her trial was slated to begin in ?tama county but it was moved back to the corridor, since there will not be a jury.a judge will decide haglin's fate. marion police tells cbs 2 news a high school stu facing three felony charges.the unidentified 15- year-old boy is accused of inappropriately touching a student at starry elementary.the teen now faces three counts of second degree sexual abuse.the suspect was taken to the linn county juvenile detention center. right now in iowa city some students are spending their thanksgiving break trying to put an end to dangerous bullying.more than two dozen students spoke at last night's school board meeting, and shared stories of being called

students from both iowa city high schools are putting their rivalry aside to give a voice to victims of bullying and discrimination. now ten at ten continues with a look at tonight's other stories across the corridor. a group of african refugees now living in cedar rapids have taken sandbags leftover from flood 2016, and transformed them into handbags. now, raygun is selling them with some of their trademark slogans.proceeds from these handbags will go to the refugees and their families. from.right now you can get them at raygun, but they will soon show up at additional retailers in the area. the salvation army hosted a free thanksgiving dinner tonight in johnson county.much like the free meal served up by the army in cedar rapids today, this one featured turkey and all the trimmings.a combined total of more than 500 people turned out for both community holiday meals. . while turkey is on the menu for most tomorrow, you might be snacking on some leftover pizza tonight.pizza

cover. and it's going to be tough to burn these clouds off. maybe a little late day sunshine in some spots tomorrow afternoon. but if you'll be commuting anywhere tomorrow morning, looks like the temperature should be mid-30s. just a little bit above the freezing mark. lots of clouds around and chilly temperatures. and later on in the day, i think turkey is likely for many sports here in the eastern part of the state. so i don't think too big of a change for thanksgiving day and black friday. so lots of clouds around. cool temperatures both da so no big issues if you're going to be doing some shopping on friday, and then over the weekend, the temperatures actually take off and warm into the 50s around eastern iowa. we'll cap that off with some late day rain on sunday. with the system that'll bring the warm temperatures as the system moves closer and closer to us. here is your thanksgiving day planner for form. if you're one of those who does the turkey trot early in the day. temperatures should be in the middle 30s to start with.

feasting time frame here between noon and 2:00 in the afternoon. and that's when our temperatures should be back in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees. and if all of that food makes you sleep, nap time, temperatures around 39. and then into the evening hour. we'll cool back down into the upper 30s and then we crack open the left overs which were sometimes just as good as the thanksgiving meal itself. >> the iowa game at kinnic stadium. for this time of the year, 42- degree temperature. skies will be mostly cloudy. winds electric coming in from the south at 5-10. so the weather shouldn't really be an issue for that. today's weather system. now pushing off. behind, that still a lot of clouds hanging around eastern iowa. we'll have to fight those off here. as you can see going through tonight. clouds are still pretty thick here. morning hours tomorrow, a little thinning taking place in

day sunshine tomorrow and this little marijuana disturbance might bring a couple furrilies. but it's all gone by friday morning and there should be no accumlace. so in the north, temperatures around 32. to 34. actually, that's tonight. then, as we get into tonight into southern sections of our area, temperatures around 34 to 35 degrees. about 34 hear in cedar rapids. for the north tomorrow, still mostly cloudy skies. seasonal temperatures. 37 to 40 ought to do it. and our southern there might be a little more soon shin. we could see -- sunshine. we could see a few spots 42-43 degrees. but i think overall mostly cloudy conditions. the dry weather lasting through saturday. some rain comes in. temperatures warming up quite a bit. and then a front slices through team coverage -- continues with the corridor commute from
