a fire alarm and drove into some students. when people came out, they were hit by the car. after the suspect hit people with the car, he got out of the car and started stabbing students. authorities are trying to understand what type of weapon he used. they are suspecting it was a machete. eight people are in th seven people have non-life- threatening injuries one is in critical condition. at this time, the buckeye strong is still trending. and the president of the university will make a statement later today. stick with cbs2 news and we will have the latest update on this case as it continues to develop. to you. the man accused of killing nine black churchgoers in charleston, south carolina, will represent himself in a

dylann roof today. it has been three weeks since jury selection was supposed to start. but dylann roof says he is ready to go with that step opening arguments could be as soon as mid-december. dylann roof also faces a state murder trial next week. in both cases, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. a man in waterloo is recovering after being shot. the cedar falls courier reports that the victim showed up at unity point alan hospital last night with gunshot wounds to his side, back and back side. police say the happened does the shooting happened near kern street. right now they are still searching for suspects. the linn county board of supervisors is buying about number hundred 85 acres of land south of squad creek park. the county had to keep the purchase a secret because there were other buyers interested in the land. they were afraid it would drive the price up much of the land is a long the creek.

she waived her right to a jury trial -- we'll meet in linn county for the verdict.dora miller, cbs 2 news a new warning this morning after a deadly holiday weekend crash. two people were killed and two officers were hurt on interstate 380 saturday. it all happened around 2:30 in the morning. police were responding to a crash that was blocking the southbound lanes on 380 near the first avenue exit.while they were trying to control traffic -- another car crashed into the police cruiser. the people in that car died at the scene -- taken to the hospital. cbs 2 news spoke with an iowa state trooper about the importance of safety in a crash zone and how drivers can help. "approaching the scene of a crash, you see people rubber necking, turning their heads to see what's happening. you'll see people even hold cell phones up to try to take pictures or video of the scene and that could even be for someone changing a tire. it may not be a traffic crash, and that causes people to drift from a lane, not pay
