sunday. although we have clouds around eastern iowa, most of the snow showers that we experienced yesterday have shifted to the south east. there may be a flake or two floating around, but it won't cause any issues. really a dry forecast into the upcoming weekend. the satellite tells the story as clouds extend across iowa and minnesota and back into illinois and nebraska. the sun is not strong this time too. it is tough to burn off the clouds when you get this low- level moisture. i expected to be a pretty predominate part of the forecast for the next several days. tomorrow we will have dry conditions and will be like this morning with cloudy skies and temperatures in the region of 33-35 with west/northwest wind at 5-10. now we are in the month of december and you can see the averages continue to go down.

by the time we get to the the end of the month, the average high temperature is down to 28. it is also typically a snowy month with about 8 inches in our area. the biggest month was in 2000 when 26.5 inches fell in cedar rapids. now here is what is going on in the wintry weather. a light snow comes in saturday night and sunday and then a stronger system is a possibility toward the middle of next week. confidence on that right now is we will show you more on that in a moment. once that goes by, a shot of cold air is expected in here in about a week. temperatures may not get out of the teens by this time next week. that is something not to look forward to there. here is the forecast with the system coming in saturday night or sunday and while it will not be overly heavy, there is a

the ground is pretty warm and i don't expected to cause much in the way up problems. this would be likely late saturday night or early in the day on sunday. taking you to the satellite, this is the disturbance that brings the saturday snow. there is another one in the pacific and that is the won the models are having a tough time with in determining whether it will be a significant storm or not. here is the u.s. model that takes a week wave and moves it to minnesota and is not eastern iowa. amounts generally 1 inch or less. the european model shows the story -- a different story. it has as much is 10 inches of snow here in eastern iowa. we have a huge discrepancies -- discrepancy in the snow totals. we cannot pick one or the other. the period to watch is on around wednesday. we could get decent snow in eastern iowa and hopefully the
