good morning, thanks for joining us. investigators in san jose are trying to determine the cause of a deadly apartment fire that killed a 7-year-old girl. 9 people were also injured. it started just before 2:00 this morning at the building of hamilton and mere i hadian avenues. crews had the fire knocked down in roughly 30 minutes. two adults and five children live in the apartment unit. a young girl was pulled from the unit but was unable to save her life. >> firefighters brought her out and he was transported where she was present announced deceased. >> three other people were also slightly hurt. >> a 7-year-old girl is reported

in stable condition at children's hospital. she was attacked by a pit bull. emergency crews were called in oakland yesterday afternoon. the girl was bitten in the face while meeting the dogs for the first time. that was after the pit bull's owner assured her it was a nice dog. >> as a 7-year-old child doesn't know what was going on. we're trying to comfort her and get her to the hospital as quick as possible. >> family members say the little girl is going to be fine after undergoing surgery last night. so far no charges have been filed. his pit bull is being held by million services. >> on thursday, a two-year-old concord boy died after being attacked by three pit bulls. a contra costa supervisor is looking into legislation to try to prevent another attack. san francisco has a mandatory spayed nighter law and they say the process makes dogs less

aggressive. it was passed after a 12-year-old boy was mauled to death back in 2005. this morning, investigators are trying to determine what sparked a grass fire in eastern solano county. firefighters were able to beat back the flames and save the home. fire broke out yesterday along clement road, an area between vacaville and dixon. they credit a man alerting to a woman who was asleep when the flames came within her home. >> i ran and hopped fences and went to the lady's house, she wasn't answering the door. another lady, got her out and then firemen got her down. >> the wildfire burned about 25 acres and destroyed a shed with some other outbuildings. one firefighter is recovering from smoke inhalation.

>> in sonoma council a lot of people were dialing 911. all this smoke is what they saw from this fire burning along highway 37 along likeville road. it turned out to be a scheduled controlled burn. >> concord police are making extra patrols this weekend at a park where three possible pipe bombs have been found since wednesday. on friday, a police bomb squad detonated one suspected pipe bomb at a park. it was found by a jogger along a trail near turgt creek road. they searched for more explosives using especially trained dogs. on wednesday two other suspected pipe bombs were found nearby. parents attending the soccer tournament are understandably concerned. >> it made us nervous about coming here to the soccer tournament but took the family aside and told them be aware of

their surroundings. >> people are being told not to pick up anything that doesn't belong to them. so far police say they have no suspects. their investigation is continuing. >> on tuesday the novato city council will consider putting a half cent sales tax on the november ballot. they laid off 20% of the city's work force and cutting $4 million from the budget. today's marin independent journal says the proposed sales tax increase would generate $3 million a year for five years. it would bring the sales tax to 9.5%. >> san francisco wants to host america's cup yacht racing the city has to invest tens of millions of dollars. they report it would cost between $40 million and $60

million apiece to repair the four pierce mentioned as possible venues for the world class event. pier 32 and 20 along with pier 50. it's estimated to be $1.4 billion and 8800 jobs if it comes here. >> the marathon is underway. first wave of runners started at 5:30 this morning outside the ferry building. runners ran up the embarcadero and then across the golden gate bridge. organizers say more than 24,000 registered runners are expected to take part this year. as they run -- there they are going across the golden gate brimming. are, expect detours and closures. lanes are expected to reopen on the golden gate bridge in about an hour. embarcadero set for about 1:45 this afternoon.

that higher taxes for the wealthy will hurt economic growth. >> a pilot survived a fiery crash of a fighter jet while practicing for an air show in canada. the pilot ejects seconds before his fighter hits the ground, bursting in flames, about 60 miles north of the border separating montana and canada. they say the air force pilot was only about 30 feet above the ground when he ejected on friday. he also landed just a few yards away from that giant fireball. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused that mishap. >> jeff martinez has a preview of the accu-weather forecast. >> good morning. cloudy and cool all morning long as we take a look downtown from the roof cam. temperature is 52 degrees and not going to warm up much at

on the cool side. lots of lower 50s around the city out to oakland, 56 degrees, warm spot, antioch, 70 degrees. we'll see a little more sunshine as you head further inland. winds, gusting up to 32 miles an hour. minor delay at sfo because of the clouds. weather highlights, patchy fog and breezy today around the coastal areas and partly sunny and mild. it was beautiful yesterday inland and i think we'll see that again today as the fog starts to burn off. you can see the clouds around the area and the reason why this area of low pressure continues the hang off shore here pushing the clouds. it will continue to move to the east the next couple of days. that is why we're going to see a cooling trend the week ahead and

thunderstorms popping up in the mountain areas. there is a red flag warning in effect across the mountains, meaning we could see dry lightning. we get the lightning but no rain to go along with it. it touched off a few wildfires yesterday. in it a few lightning strikes east of redding and also east of sacramento. look out for that. cloudy and cool throughout much of the day today. clouds should burn off a little in the afternoon, temperatures topping out 62 degrees, upper 80s further inland. 79 in san jose today. good morning, 76 degrees for your high today. liquidated and cool along the coast with only 58 in pacifica. we will see the onshore flow and it will be breezy most of the day. 62 downtown and out toward the north bay, warm spot, ukiah 95 degrees, cooler 70s as we get

day show of force in the sea of japan. north korea is warning the exercises could lead to what it calls a sacred war. pyongyang has made those threats before but this one is causing more anxiety. >> with one of america's most powerful warships poised to take part in joint military exercises north korea is threatening to use its nuclear deterrence in response. north says the u.s. exercises will result a retaliatory sacred wore zblar north korea is getting comfortable with a state that makes nuclear threats. we better get used to it. >> all this after days secretary of state and defense secretary announced new sanctions named at north's program and saying the military exercises are minute to sent a clear signal. >> we have seen nothing that

we'll see most of the fog and cloudy and cool conditions. 52 degrees in san francisco. we've been holding that temperature for the past couple of hours. we're not going to warm up much at all in the city, 58 at most. 60s and 70 degrees in antioch right now. a little bit warmer further inland. weather highlights, foggy and breezy, gusts up in fairfield about 35 miles an hour. it will breezy day and we'll see a cooling trend continue throughout much of the week ahead. reason being, area of low pressure right here. that is driving in the marine layer. that beginning to be with us again for the next few days. you can see right here. system hasn't really moved. it's been a cut off area of low pressure for the past few days. with the counterclockwise, southerly flow pushing the cloud bank and drawing subtropical moisture where we're looking at

thunderstorms in the sierra and perhaps in the east bay hills by tomorrow, we could tap into the moisture. for today a good bet for thunderstorms firing up around lake tahoe again today. red flag warning in effect meaning we could see dry lightning with that. we had some wildfires touched off yesterday, nothing major but we're looking for some pretty good thunderstorms to pop up in the sierra. your forecast, looks like this. the fog sticking with us right through much of the day. i think by the afternoon hours, it should retreat a little bit. hopefully a little bit of sunshine inland, i think around the city, we'll see a lot of cloud cover through much of the day and temperatures only in the 50s. 70s and 80s further inland you go. temperatures for today will be again on the cool side. most areas with highs ranging from b around 79 in san jose, 75

homeless in the east bay. that group is celebrating 40 years of dedication to the community. >> it was the 1960s, san francisco haight ashbury was the epicenter of the counter culture movement. >> many of them coming from the midwest. >> he was a minister back then in touch with other clergy in berkeley. one begin to feed the new comers and full-fledged program was under way after churches of all denominations convinced people to volunteer. >> there were some that couldn't quite understand it and felt that is what the church would be about. fortunately it was a minority. >> times have changed and so has the program. it's now known as the berkeley food and housing project. largest provider of homeless

>> my sons are creative. >> her role are finish but betsy isn't done yet for sure. in palo alto, don sanchez, "abc 7 news." >> 32nd annual san francisco marathon is still going but lanes have already reopened on the golden gate bridge. first wave of runners started at 5:30 this morning outside the ferry building. runners ran up the embarcadero and across the golden gate bridge. organizers say more than 24,000 registered runners are expected to take part this year. you can expect street closures, traffic delays and detours all along the marathon route. embarcadero is set to reopen at 1:45 this afternoon. marathon ends in front of the ferry building and all runners must finish by 12:45 or what? >> you're done.
