>> alan: good evening. an overnight fire in san jose claimed the life of an eight-year-old girl. >> carolyn: at least nine others were injured when fire burn to an apartment building on hamilton avenue andmer meridian. we have the story. >> reporter: the cause of the fire still remains under investigation. fire investigators don't believe it was a suspicious fire. for now, 25 people who lived in this apartment complex are without a place to live this evening. the red cross is assisting in fining them temporary housing and this little girl's family is in mourning. >> everybody was yelling.

i tried to get in there. >> reporter: the unit was already in flames when neighbors realized the little girl was trapped inside. >> i tried. broke the windows in the back, throw water in there. it was too much. >> reporter: firefighters made it to the scene within six minutes but it was too late. they found the eight-year-old in the back bedroom. she was pronounced dead at the hospital. >> a small apartment. they went to the bedroom and they found the little girl there. in the room on the floor. >> reporter: neighbors say she was in town a tending a baptism for a relative. nine others also suffered minor injuries during the fire. >> i was asleep. i woke up to pounding on my

door. >> reporter: it was a busy night for san jose firefighters. no one was injured during a two-alarm fire that burped in this building at 2:30 in the morning and just before 4:30, stovetop fire caused the evacuation of this senior living center. out of the three locations, two are in neighborhoods where fire stations are slated for closure because of budget cuts. >> we just do our job. we're going to do what we can with what we have. >> reporter: crime scene investigators spent hours searching for clues. they don't foe whether the smoke alarm was working. it melted in the flames. >> should have been me instead of her. i'm already going on 83 years old. >> reporter: now, that same neighbor says that family members were supposed to take the little girl home to north carolina today. on another note, the firefighters who pulled her out of the burning building this morning worked for one of those

stations that is slated to have some cutbacks very soon. reporting in san jose. abc-7 news. >> alan: concord police are running extra patrols at a park where three pipe bombs have been found since wednesday. on friday, a police bomb squad detonated a pipe bomb at new hal community park. it was found by a jogger. 25 police officers searched for more explosives using specially trained dogs. on wednesday tw other -- two other pipe bombs were found nearby. people are being told not to pick up anything that doesn't belong to them. the investigation continues. >> carolyn: the family of a girl attacked bay pitbull say she is out of the hospital. the dog bit the girl's face on saturday afternoon. she has significant but nonlife-threatening injuries. she had surgery. the dog was taken away by until

control. this incident follows another violent pitbull attack in concord. three pits mauled a two-year-old boy to death. his stepgrandfather is under arrest for suspicious of shield endangerment. >> alan: san francisco civilians will be trained in police work in a pilot program. while police officers are being laid off, san francisco's police chief is adopting the program despite strong opposition from the police unions. 15 civilian investigators will be trained to interview witnesses and victims, take fingerprints and gather dna evidence. the $955,000 program will cost significantly less than hiring new owes officers and is intended to lead to more efficient policing. the program was adon't last week. >> carolyn: hollywood teamsters are vote will go to authorize a strike against major movie and tv studios. it's a move that could cripple

>> alan: "the new york times" and london "guardian" newspaper are reporting one of the biggs leaks of classified document in military history. 90,000 secret documents are being released by the whistle blower organization called kiki-leaks. this video shows a helicopter attack on unarmed men in iraq. the military file suggests that hundreds of civilians have been killed in unreported incidented. they also suggest that members of pakistan's spy agency met with the taliban to plot against the u.s. the white house issued a statement saying it strongly condemns the disclosure of confidential information because it could threaten national security. >> carolyn: in afghanistan, the taliban is claiming responsibility for killing one u.s. sailor and capturing another in an ambush. the u.s. and nato forces confirm

two american navy personnel went missing friday. we have a report on the am suburb the -- am suburb the search. >> a taliban spokesman says one of the sailors was killed during the incident. he said they tried to resist and one of the soldiers was killed and the other was captured alive. a local official says the taliban was offering to exchange the body for jailed insurgents. a man hunt is underway with photos of the missing men and an offer of award. the men left can kabul driving n armored suv. the stopped a a bazaar and then continued on when the insurgents hat an an buck. the americans fought back and were overwhelmed and captured. >> i don't have off the details

>> carolyn: in iowa, the lake delhi dam failed after the river crested ten feet above flood stage. water from the dam sent boats from the lake crashing below. it caused millions of dollars of damage to the city. hundreds or people were forced to evacuate. parts of iowa have seen up to nine inches of rain. >> alan: san francisco wants to host themer's cup yacht race in 2014, the city will have to invest tens of millions of dollars but the payoff could be

>> alan: i'm sure the runners appreciated the cool weather but i want to see the sun. >> leigh: the last full week of july, the low temperatures will be in the forecast for the next four to five days. this is a live look from the high definition tam cam. you can see what is moving inland, the low clouds and fog. down towards san jose, they're actually seeing a lot of blue sky. the westerly winds have started to kick up so temperatures across the bay area down as much as five to seven degrees in many locations. antioch was down # degrees from their temperature theirs time yesterday. right now 85. we have 78 in livermore. 59d cool degrees in san francisco. santa rosa, temperatures, 70, and 57 right now in half moon bay. you saw it out there. the low clouds and mist and drizzle heading inland. it's going to make for a cooler day tomorrow inland.

and we're going to keep cloudy and mist and drizzle sitting near the coast, and below normal temperatures will be with us throughout the course of the week. you can see the fog bank sitting there, the westerly winds pushing it in. we're going to bring in quit a bit of drizzle, especially in the early morning commute tomorrow over the golden gate bridge, the low cloud and fog and drizzle. temperatures cooler overnight. mid-to 50s will be the temperatures. and this is because of a cutoff low off the coast. it's finally moving closer to the bay area, and will push the low clouds and fog further inland. so it will mean cooler temperatures. this system also triggering more isolated thunderstorms as that moisture is moving north along the spine of the sierra. check out the light inning strikes in the last few hours.
