vandalism would be an understatement. >> it hurts us rosearans we call offs. >> reporter: someone destroyed three rose beds. the steps weren't just trimmed. they were scalped. >> it's sad. makes you want to cry, don't understand how they can get pleasure out of this destruction >> the rose garden brings a sense of calm, but this is doing just the opposite. park regulars are coming here to see for themselves what happened, because for many there's a sense of ownership that comes with living in the area. >> my family comes here. my mom is a huge rode gardener. >> just unconscionable. >> reporter: park officials suspect the same person who did this is also responsible for this. a with of vandalism sweeping

through the east end of the park. where the focus has been on trees. since may, 30 to 40 trees have been cut or destroyed. >> the way these cuts were made and the see vandalism cuts, they appear to be similar. a clean cut with a sharp utensile or loppers or sheers. >> reporter: in other words, professional grade tools were used. gardeners and staffers have been questioned, but they have few leads. >> there's a really sick person around. >> reporter: there will be more patrols coming through day and night, and park officials say they're considering installing surveillance video cameras. there's a $2,000 reward being offered. lisa amin gulezian abc-7 news. >> terry: police in hayward shot at a suspected drunk driver after he plowed into a squad car

marriage. jerry where ground has requested that same-sex marriages begin immediately. >> the redwood city police chief is admitting that red-light cameras have not led to a significant drop in traffic accidents. that's in response to a recent grand jury report that found the cameras a more effective making money than saving lives. the city council is expected to take up the red-light camera issue during its meeting on monday. >> the exotic erotic ball is moving to the east bay. the fetish festival will be held in richmond. going to take place in late october. organizes wanted more control over ticketing and concessions and prefer the new waterfront location. still to come, new job for shirley gerrard.

blogger of taking the remarks out of context. prosecutors in sweden withdrew an arrest warrant against the founder of wikileaks after accusing him of rape. he called them dirty tricks days after wikileaks is set to release document about the war in afghanistan. the pentagon claims the leaks could cost lives. the prosecutor says he remains a suspect in a separate molestation case. today, iran opened up its first nuclear power plant. the russian plant will be subject to regulation, make sure it's used to produce energy and not nuclear weapons. it will be another two months before the plant is fully operational. the united states begins its post combat phase in iraq this week.

american combat troops that packed up and left, leaving only 50,000 u.s. troops to help train iraqi security forces. >> reporter: a final farewell to the war in iraq. the casing ceremony for the 4-2 stryker brigade. the last combat brigade to leave iraq, putting the flags away. a soldier said the fighting is over and the next time he will see the colors he will be stateside. >> we accomplished our mission and we closed out operation iraqi freedom. >> they came at the height of the surge in 2007, then back to train iraqi forces last year. this month, they hasn't over their post to the iraqi army, part of the draw down that has cut the u.s. military presence in half. on september 1, operation new dawn, 50,000 troops staying on

oakland, 58. napa, 69. novato, 66. here's a look at some highlights for you. we're going to continue with low clouds mainly near the coast. a little drizzle, and then afternoon sunshine. and temperatures will warm up even mow so for sunday, and let me tell you, you have been wanting heat you get it. monday and tuesday, temperatures inland close to 100 degrees. you can see the low clouds and fog just literally sitting near the coast. inland cleared us out nicely. get something cloudiness by the sierras. and a few light showers from truckee down towards lake tahoe. these will continue to filter towards the sought and should diminish overnight. speaking of tonight, areas of low clouds and fog across the bay area. temperatures mid-to-upper 50s across much of the region this

evening, and as we take a look at the satellite animation, you can see what's going on. we had the jet stream moving over the bay area, bringing us a bubble of unseasonably cool air. by tomorrow. >> all of this will push off to the east and that will mean warmer temperatures sunday. in fact, we start off with a few clouds tomorrow. much of that will burn quickly to the north, and temperatures slightly warmer, and even see some 60s near the coast. here's a look at selected cities for you. 77, san jose. cupertino, 76. 61 for half moon bay. inland, palo alto, 75. san francisco, warming to 66. in the north bay, 79. santa rosa. napa, 75. on the east bay, oakland, 69.
