record it's hardly surprising he is pandering to the extreme drill baby, drill baby. and the chair of the state republican party says that criticizing san francisco values resonates with conservative and moderate voters. san francisco police evacuated three apartment buildings in the north beach neighborhood after finding a hand grenade. someone was cleaning out a garage yesterday afternoon and spotted the world war ii era grenade. police evacuated residents on the 400 block of vallejo. they took grenade away and police let everyone back in. >> de anza college is reaching out to help a woman to help prevent a campus bombing. she called police with information that led to the arrest of a young man before that attack could be carried out. now now the college is helping

back. she suffers from a rare form of cancer that leaves her with double vision and severe headaches. last night a private fund-raiser collected donations for her medical bills. amy hollyfield reports. the bombs were supposed to go off in this building, when her mother asked about hosting a party for kelly the answer was immediately. >> when i told de anza what was happening, this is where kelly needs to be, we want to save her. >> she was developing pictures in lodges's when she came across images of pipe bombs and guns. she decided to call the police. here she is nine years ago talking about that decision. >> no question in my mind, first picture i was beginning to call to the zblis they went to the home of the man and found the weapon along with a plan of setting off bombs at the campus

center during lunchtime and shooting at students as they ran for safety. she made the discovery and phone call to the police the night before the attack was scheduled to take place. >> atf and f.b.i. had said that they thought she saved 200 lives. >> right now, kelly's life is under attack. she has a rare brain tumor at the base of her skull. so friends and family held a fund-raiser at at the college. >> it's totally amazing to me and i'm so thankful because they hadn't forgotten her. >> they sold 450 tickets to the event. some of in the crowd have never met her but are grateful. >> everybody that is here what could have almost happened -- we owe it to her and thank you for

it. >> she was not at fund-raiser because the mother says it's too xeomg to her. the bomber was sentenced to prison and committed suicide in 2004. u.s. park police say they know who viciously stabbed a dog several times at san francisco's fort sumson. he was released after several hours of surgery. they say he pulled out a knife stabbing her dog four times. they have located the man and arrest is pending further investigation. >> redwood city leaders will review the use of red light cameras tomorrow night. a crick grand jury report concludes that cameras at major intersections have not significantly reduced traffic accidents in the two years since they went up.

the police chief admits the cameras are a revenue generator with the city averaging $65,000 a month but he believes the cameras or a deterrent. redwood city's mayor says he was unaware right turn violators are being ticketed by the system until he got caught himself. that is also going to be discussed tomorrow night. >> bay area users of public transit are tapping on to the benefits of using the clipper card to pay fares for five transit agencies. the clipper card formally known as trans link is gaining accept a amps so fast the system at times has been overwhelmed. during the first week of this month, clipper cards were used for nearly 94,000 transactions. that is an increase of 11% over the previous week. it's a 240% increase from a year ago. metropolitan transit agency says

four u.s. troops have died in afghanistan today. nato reports three died in insurgent attacks and one was killed by a homemade bomb. they reported a senior taliban commander is among the taliban killers that was killed today. taliban has targeted many veterans of the soviet era for becoming allies with the afghani government. >> the rights that afghan government has gained, they are reached out to the taliban to strike peace deals. hamid karzai is hoping to negotiate with taliban members would ho would be willing to break away from al-qaeda and other terror groups. on this week, he says afghan women's right are non-negotiable. >> the presentation will be solid and meaningful to make sure that the gains we have made

are hoping to have it fully contained later today. fire department helicopters also rescued two rock climbers who called 911 when they realized they were surrounded by flames. two firefighters have suffered minor injuries. and to that second major fire in the state, it's north of san luis obispo. 450 firefighters on the line working this 1500 acre fire, just 5% contained. no buildings are the but six camp griondz had to be evacuated. investigators aren't sure how this got started. >> well, okay, finally, miss argen, a little bit of a warmup. i think it's getting hot. >> downright hot. we're looking at temperatures still at the coast, in the next couple of days, but we are going to come up significantly

tomorrow and today, you know why? it's already sunny with the marine layer shrinking and winds are going shift that is going to bring an offshore flow. that comes into play tomorrow. tuesday, hottest day of the week should be tuesday. already 60 in oakland. 61 at sfo. 51 in concord and stubborn clouds around the north and delta. also we're looking at few clouds around novato. sunny skies in sunnyvale. 5-7 degrees of warming near 100 degrees inland, that includes tomorrow but especially on tuesday and then we'll cool off just a little inland on wednesday. everyone else will cool more with the sea breeze come the middle of the week. here is what is going on. we got high pressure building in from the pacific. low pressure, that trough, it has been with us and is sliding

across the state today. we also have another area of high pressure that is building in from southern california. it's going to continue all week long and in fact, it's going to be parked over southern california. while we see an end to our warm temperatures, it's going to stay hot down in the south land. temperatures back in the 80s for east bay valleys. few 80s in the south bay. pretty but the fog is wiped away as the air mass warms up and dissipates. so today, expect the 80s, santa rosa, average high is 82. just two degrees below the average. livermore in the mid-80s today, just two degrees shy of where you should be and san jose still pretty far from your average high, 86 in sacramento. still kind of warm in fresno. breezy winds in the northern sierra and back home we'll see

temperatures getting more comfortable from cupertino, 76 and 77 in san jose. san mateo, 72. san francisco, already sunny, should be nice afternoon at 66. south city already up to 70. north bay, mid to upper 70s from petaluma to sonoma. you have to go pretty far up to get the mid 80s, more warmth is coming our way. 68 in berkeley and today look for the weaker sea breeze. concord, 82. 84 in livermore and monterey bay still clouds in watsonville but that, too, will dissipate quickly. so today a little breezy. we'll still have onshore flow but it disappears on offshore flow, tuesday shortly after we see the temperatures tumble come wednesday at our coast. i can't remember what it's been

governor is trying to do something that critics call crazy, spend millions to rebuild san quentin's death row. here is the story. >> the $400 million debt row expansion project at san quentin includes 768 cells and more than 1100 beds. they will have a hospital and six guard stations. >> in the best of times, this is a lousy project. >> an assemblyman is upset that the governor is moving ahead with the prison's expansion, borrowing $65 million from the general fund for the first phase. it comes at a time when the state is facing a $19 billion deficit plus the budget state. >> that $65 million closer to iou's to deferral of payment of schools, to health clinics to

critical needs that surely ought to rank ahead of this prison project. >> the governor's office says the legislature itself passed the law itself requiring death row to be upgraded. now is the time to start the project because it will cost taxpayers less and provide jobs. >> we have incredibly favorable climate for construction. >> it's the only way to kick start the project because of pending lawsuits between the governor and legislature has made it impossible to get a construction bond from wall street. they point out other programs won't be affected and the $65 million will eventually be paid back. folks here and independent living don't believe the money will be repaid and wonder why prisoners seem to matter more than services for the disabled.

collard. >> getting seed was an inconvenient process of shopping at local nurseries or leasing through thick catalogs but now getting access to new plants is as close to the richmond library. >> it's creating community, people coming together and we're sharing resources, we're sharing our skills. >> the seed bank at the richmond library is the brainchild of rebecca, a school teacher but one component to get urban neighbors to get them growing more food, especially in areas where with a lot of fast food restaurants like richmond. >> if we as a community can grow more of our own food locally and promote the health of that food, from within the community not from without, i think it has potential to change things for the better.

can do anything outside. >> i was griping to you about my tomatoes because it has been cool and it's getting late in the season. we are looking at warmth coming our way, but at least it's here because with the shower and marine layer, less of an onshore flow. from the roof camera, not much left. so we are on our way to very nice day today but wait until tomorrow. we are talking a dramatic warmup. in the next couple of days. today is going to be moderate but tomorrow is going to be hot. 60 in oakland, 59 in menlo park. look for temperatures mainly in the 50s right now. a little fog around napa. issues it's sunny in san jose and 71 already in los gatos. we are looking for temperatures to come up five to seven degrees today with near 100 degree heat in inland valleys tomorrow.

the flow will shift. away see an slight onshore flow but eventually, this knowledge of high pressure in the eastern pacific begins to build in to the pacific northwest so that is going to allow for more of a northerly wind and what that is going to do is wipe out the fog altogether. we have that trough yesterday, another cool pocket of air on the way and we're seeing sunshine today. 80s in the inland valleys. a couple of 80s in santa clara and few more up to the north. but mild 60s at the coast. here is the way it's going to play out. mid-70s in redwood city. average will be in the low 80s tomorrow. you'll see that past that. at least today, we're coming up to the mid-60s, san francisco. mid-80s livermore. upper 70s in san jose. southern california, there is

another area of high pressure keeping it warm. we'll see 89 in the sierra and breezy conditions in the mountains. 78 in saratoga. feels like it's a lot warmer considering we have been well below normal so the 75 in palo alto feels pretty good. south city, 70, 60 in daly city. 60s in golden gate park, if you are going to be biking or running, nice afternoon. 79 in sonoma. by the water, still in the 60s but a big improvement from yesterday. 69 in oakland. get in the 70s tomorrow. 72 in union city and we will see the winds pick up in the higher elevations. winds are going to shift and and we're going to see warmer weather tomorrow. 82 in pleasanton with low to mid-80s for gilroy. offshore flow, i think the east bay will squeeze another warm
