ripped through a townhouse complex in san jose this morning, damaging five units and displacing 20 people. fire investigators spent all day at the scene searching for clues how the fire may have start. here's cecelia vega. >> reporter: the flames shot high above the townhouses in south san jose, an image recorded bay resident who watched his own home burn. the firefighters say the cause is under investigation. neighbors have their own ideas. >> basically what i saw from my perspective that there was a propane from the barbecue. >> he says he saw the fire burning near the barbecue, the remains of propane tanks and the charred excel tan -- skeleton of the grill. >> it spread to the inside of the first unit, got into the common attic space and extended to the second unit.

>> neighbors say the owners of the barbecue recently moved in they're now out of town, and neighbors say no one has been able to contact them to tell them about the fire that in all displaced 20 people. her parents are also out of town and will come home to find their townhouse they called home for eight years destroyed. >> i heard the next door neighbor's dog crying, so i woke up, and i looked toward mist curtains, and i saw the shadow of flames. >> this is all she salvaged. >> my room and my dad's room is gone and the garage is gone. >> reporter: residents had been warned about the dangers of using barbecues in the past. the homeowners association president say there may soon be a new policy in place year going to have to pass a rule that we will enforce people barbecuing and they have to actually ask them to turn -- put their barbecues out.

180 pounds. her family believes she might be heading to houston with a man she met on myspace. that man is driving a newer silver toyota tundra pickup truck. police in santa clara county say drunk driving arrests are down from last year in one of the biggest dui crackdowns of the year. at least 40 people were arrested since friday morning when the boys of 13 cracked down. compared to 72 arrests last year. extra dui patrols will be on duty through labor day. police say more people are killed or injured in dui crashes in the weeks leading up to labor day than any other time of the year. in berkeley, thousands of students started moving into their new living spaces this weekend. as the new school year gets underway. 6,000 graduates are moving into campus residence halls at berkeley.
