i'm dan noyes. in just the past hour we learned the suspect 0 accused of shooting an oakland police officer has been arrested. andrew baren -- barrientos is cruised of shooting todd young. barrientos was arrested late this afternoon around the u.s., mexico border. lisa amin gulezian is live tonight at union city where a separate search was happening. >> reporter: the search is now

over here in union city after authorities confirm barrientos' arrest. but they searched the strict for hours. officers left the duplex about 30 minutes ago. they may have been looking for people who know the suspect or may have helped him escape. police blocked off a number of the streets in the neighborhood. the suspect used to live a flew blocks away and is a known member of the deck -- decota gangsters. >> who lived next door to you? >> we don't know -- don't really have conversations with them, but they just told us to get out. >> reporter: there's -- years anyway there's a law. i support them. you ain't got nothing to hide, you know.

let them in. >> reporter: barrientos skoal a car after the shooting. that grown mass a da was found today at 2:00 in the morning across from tennyson park in hayward. as for officer todd young, he is in critical but stable condition. he was shot in the groin area yesterday while serving a search warrant. police tracked baren -- baren to's cell phone. >> a dead body was discovered in oakland about a half mile from the coliseum. the victim was a woman. police are investigating how the body got there and who may be responsible for the death. in the south bay, policed have arrested a month suspected of killing a woman in san jose. the shooting happened shortly

after 1:00. with the help of witnesses, police were able to arrest the suspected shooter. the victim is only being identified as a 28-year-old woman from san jose. the identity of the suggest has not been repussed. >> -- released. >> two muni buses collidedded to. one driver went to investigate a malfunctioning wheelchair flat form. the bush rolled down the hill and crashed interest a second bus. we found this photo of the accident two passengers on the bus that lost control were slightly hurt. prison guards fired on inmates to put out a riot at folsom prison last night. seven inmates were taken to the hospital. none of the injuries is considered to be life-threatening. >> we fired three disspeakers

grenades, and 20, 40-millimeter rounds and five warning shots. >> no prison guards were hurt. it's unclear how it started. >> paris hilton has been arrested for possessing cocaine. the arrest happened last night in las vegas after a police officer pulled over her boyfriend's suv and smelled marijuana. the cocaine was found in hilton's purse. these photos of her arrest were posed today on tmz.com. hilton was released from jail have to hours after her arrest. this is her mug shot. it's not known how much cocaine she is accused of having. if she is convicted, shoe would likely only face probation. she was in the news this week after someone tried breaking into their los angeles home.

>> dan: public health workers in alameda county hope their efforts will save the lives of babies. they offered three whopping cough vaccines. it's killed eight babies in california. many folks seem unaware that whopping cough has reached epidemic levels. >> not as much as from h1n1 because with h1n1 it was a national problem and there was a wholelet of press. and the more press, we get more people. >> dan: the state currently provide whopping cough shots to all mothers of newborns, children must get vaccinated

>> dan: an update on our top story. san diego police captured this man, andrew barrientos, near the mexican border. he is accused of yesterday's shooting of fremont police officer todd young. young is in critical condition after undergoing hours of surgery. police in san diego trailed barrientos by tracking his cell phone. they detained him at the border crossing.

he was armed when he was captured. officers arrested him without incident. the 20-year-old is suspected of being a member of a gang in union city's dekyoto district. >> iraq has put his country on the highest possible alert for terrorist attacks. it follows intel juns that suicide bombers have entered the country and plan to trying several targets in baghdad. 50 people have been killed in a series of bottommings and shootings across iraq. the attacks coincide we the united states pulling combat forces out of the country. the -- in afghanistan, u.s. and afghany troops pull off simultaneous attacks. 21 insurgents were killed. one of the bases targeted was the same place where a suicide

the 28-year-old map was driving a minivan with his wife and two young sons. a shot was fired after he exchanged words with someone inside a blue honda accord. the victim got out of his car before he collapsed. >> bumper to bumper. >> it was bad. my car is overheating. >> i still haven't seen nothing like what was the cause of it yet. >> the driver in the honda kept on going. police are searching for a blue 2002-tweet honda accord with dark tinted windows and chrome rims. >> a search is underway for a man considered a person of interest in his wife's disappearance. the couple had been together for 40 years. >> reporter: a homicide detective arrives at coast community college district to talk with coworkers of rick force berg. he disappeared after investigators interviewed him

tuesday to see what he knew about his wife's disappearance. >> investigators are looking at phone records, financial records, checking with friends that have not heard from her. >> the 61-year-old seen here with her husband of nearly 40 years. the photo taken last year at her high school reunion. marsa, a retired writer and editor has done graduate work. they lived in this neighborhood for 20 years. friends say they last saw her in february. her husband told investigators he hasn't seen her since march. he never filed a missing persons report. >> we heard that she had gone to see some friends in arizona so we didn't think anything of it. >> give us a date of when she was supposed to get back and that date would come and she wasn't back. he would ask again, and then after a while he said they were having marital problems and they're on a trial separation.

>> dan: medicare is expanding its coverage to help seniors who want to quilt smoking, 4-1/2 million older american's are still lighting up. it will cover up to eight counseling sessions for those who can't to quit. most private insurers already cover counseling for smokers trying to kick the habit. >> if you're a recent college graduate, the economy may be holding you back from starting a career and there's another concern. health insurance. healthcare reform allowed parents to cover their adult children until the turn 26. turns out, there's some hitches with that. here's mickal finney.

called me and said -- i think he said, happy birth birthday,off have insurance until your 26. >> but it didn't last. here's what happened. first, antonio received a letter from blue shield. it said good, news. bus of a new law, renee would be covered for three more years. however, two weeks later, he received a second letter, saying, it was all a big mistake. >> oh, just kidding, you're not covered. >> they made a me -- mistake. she did not have coverage. >> he cooperate get answers. what about the new law? renee is only 23. >> and i know michael finney, and channel #. >> the new law comes with new complications. the provision on older child coverage doesn't take effect until september 23rd, and even then insurers don't have to

cover the older children until the next time the health machine renews. usually that's once a year. however to avoid gap inside coverage, major health insurers agreed to start covering adult children right away, blue shield included. that's why renee thought the first letter was good news. so, why was she dumped? >> really looking at internal belt-tightening, and this is one area. >> the employer is golden gate traps sit, which is self-insured. blue shield only manages the claims. golden gate transit won't cover children until the law requires it until the next renewal period, july, 2011. >> blue shield could cover. the. >> the spokesperson for the agency says covering adult children now would mean renegotiating union contracts,

police have arrested the suspect in the shooting of a fremont police officer. the man, andrew barrientos, captured not far from the mexican border. police conducted an exhaustive search for barrientos. the injured officer was identified as todd young, six-year veteran of the fremont police department. he is in critical but stable condition tonight in the hospital. police combed union city looking for barrientos before learning of his arrest at the border. lisa amin gulezian joins us now live with more.
