just feel like i should pay back. >> reporter: oakland officer never met officer young but the shooting brought back memories last year when four of her own were shot and killed. she was on duty when young was shot while serving a search warrant on other -- a gang member in oakland. >> after a massive 24-hour manhunt, police arrested andrew barrientos near the mexican border. he had a handgun in his waistband, the same type of weapon used to shoot young. >> worked with him for 15 years this, mark riggs wantes to go to the hospital but came to the blood bank instead. >> just feel the need to do something. and can't take any visitors, so this is something i could do for him in his name and if the blood doesn't good to him, it will

good to somebody else. >> reporter: barrientos face twoz counts of attempted murder. police say he fired at young and at another police officer. he is also facing two counts of carjacking. he is expected to be brought back to the bay area to face charges. reporting in oakland, abc-7 news. >> carolyn: police say you can help by donating blood. there are five red cross agencies accepting donations. we have a list with the blood centers for you on abc7.com. just check on "see it on tv". >> a momon parishioner was shot and killed in the central valley. it happened in visalia. witnesses say the shooter walked into the bishop's office, engaged in conversation, then opened fire.

the man fled and then phoned police to tell him his location. he was injured in an exchange of gunfire with officers. his condition is not known, nor is his motive for shooting the bishop. >> a woman jumped to her death when her apartment caught fire this morning. a second person inside that eight-story unit that caught fire was taken to the hospital with burns. he i can expected to survive. crews put out the fire before it spread to any other units. a shootout took place in san francisco was bayview district last night. undercover officers responded to a housing complex after receiving a report of a suspicious person with a gun. no officers were hurt. neither were the gunmen who managed to get away. >> a double-decker bus carrying tourists collided with a car in san francisco.

one of the people on the bus was taken to the hospital. >> we were waiting to cross. obviously just ran past, and a massive bang, you know, massive crash happened. >> carolyn: the cause of the crash is under investigation. witnesses say they saw the car run a red legislate before it slammed into the bus. in san jose, firefighters discovered an indoor marijuana operation after a home caught fire today. that fire was reported just after dawn along plainview court. investigators believe it was sparked by faulty wiring that had been rigged to help the marijuana growers a void detection. firefighters have discovered marijuana farms in three other homes that have caught fire this month. crews appear to be majoring progress against a fire burping in the tahoe forest. the fire is 20% contained. evacuation orders were lifted and most road have re-opened to

traffic. the fire prompted governor schwarzenegger to declare a state of emergency in yuba account yesterday. >> investigators in southern california are trying solve a mitt around a couple married 40 years. the wife disappeared, and the husband has vanished as well. >> reporter: investigators handed out fliers and questioned neighbors. desperately trying to solve a disturbing mystery. 61-year-old marcia forsberg, disappeared in february. her husband of nearly 40 years, richard, a college administrator, told neighbors she had gone away. >> they would give us a date of when she was supposed to get back, and that date would come and she wasn't back. and then we would ask again, and then after a while he then said that they were having marital problems and they were on a trial separation. >> we heard that she had gone to

see some friends in arizona. so we didn't think anything of it. >> reporter: but when weeks of calls and e-mail were unreturned, close friends wrote letters to neighbor. finally last week, they called police. richard forsberg told investigators he had last seen his wife in march but didn't report her missing. when police returned the next day, richard forsberg was gone, along with his wife's car, a volkswagen beatle like -- beetle. >> he has not been to work, which is unusual. no cell phone activity on his cell phone, and no cell phone or financial transaction on the missing person. >> reporter: investigators searched the home and seized the car. while neighbors grow suspicious of the man who told them he had recently started taking a survival course. police searching for the forsbergs call richard a person of interest but is not suspected

>> closed captioning brought to >> carolyn: in new orleans, neighbors are marking the five year anniversary of hurricane katrina with mixed emotions. mourning all that was lost and celebrating how far the city has come. >> reporter: visiting new orleans five years to the day after katrina struck, president barack obama promised not to forget. >> it has become a symbol of resilience and a community and of the fundamental responsibility that we have to one another. >> reporter: for people here, katrina was a disaster they still live with every day. neighbors in st. bernard parish gathered inside the church where they mourned loves ones.

>> carolyn: a volcano in western indonesia has rerunted for the first anytime 400 years. it has thrown sand and ash up into a mile in the air. experts say there's been some lava flow near the crater as well. 10,000 people have been evacuated. indonesian television reports respiratory complications from dust and ash has killed one burn and hospitalized dozen of others. there has been no major property damage. >> people in the caribbean are bracing for hurricane earl. that storm is forecast to hit the islands later tonight. earl has sustain winds of 75-miles-an-hour. the storm is expected to strengthen as it moves over

warmer waters. puerto rico and the virgin islands are also in earl's path, and it could hit the east coast of the u.s. later this week. leigh glaser is tracking earl for us and is here with more. >> leigh: i want to point out the other hurricane we have been focusing on the past couple of days, and this is hurricane danielle. this is moving away from us. so we're saying goodbye to that one. this is hurricane earl, winds have just increased, at 85 miles-per-hour, and you're exactly right, it's poised to move over the northern islands overnight tonight. british virgin islands, the hurricane warnings in effect there. and puerto rico right here. so this thing is expected to move close to that region in the next 24-36 hours. beyond that. forecast models are saying it will stay to the east of

bermuda, and then here's marryland u.s. the carolinas could possibly pose problems there next week. i want to show you a beautiful shot. it's been a beautiful day today. low clouds and fog moving in. his this is looking down towards ocean beach. temperatures actually warmed a little bit. here's a look at current readings for you. in the # -- 70s. 59 in san francisco. napa, 73. and sunnyvale, sunshine and 75 degrees. tonight, we good with passing clouds overnight. a little warmer monday, and then almost warm, maybe even hot mid-to latter part of the work week, with temperatures returning into the 90s inland. here's a look at the closeup satellite. clouds to the east of us, and that's the low clouds near the coast, thanks to an area of low pressure passing to the north of

the bay area. and check out the live doppler 7 hd. very accurate. lake tahoe right now, 49 degrees, a light rain. you notice a little mix in here, some thunder bolts as well, and a mix of pink indicating a wintry mix in some of the elevations before 8,000 feet. overnight, temperatures cooling. 50s across the rest of the viewing area, and here's a look at the lower pressure. one moved to the north yesterday. a secondary one to the north of us this afternoon. by tomorrow, that will kick towards the east, high pressure will build in, and means warmer temperatures. here's a look at the highs for monday. we come up a few more degrees. 76 for san jose, beaches, half moon bay, 61. san francisco, mid-60s. santa rosa, 77. napa, 75. hercules, climb to 72.
