neighborhood is still considered a hazardous area. they may let people back possibly as soon as today. the acting governor will announce a message within hours. you have pictures inside the area. >> we do. the state of california as well as the city of san bruno moving the disaster into a recovery phase. with that president obama sending the message to the citizens there affected by the fire he will expedite funding and federal help to the people that need it. this is upclose look of the aftermath. this is the site where 48 hours

ago a natural gas line ex had uploaded under ground. the power of the explosion, 38 homes were lost and four people were confirmed dead. they still have to go through a few more homes, some 25% of the homes are left to lack for more victims. they will hold pa press conference. focus is to talk about the recovery phase in san bruno and how the federal government, city and state governmental will be able toied the many families that just lost so much in this devastation. pg&e admitting that the gas line. >> the community of san bruno needs answers, the people of california needs answers. we need to know why this happened and we need to know how

this happened. >> acting governor vowing to the people of california in san bruno she will get to the bottom of what happened and why this gas line exploded. also many families still waiting to get back into their homes to assess the damages. the city manager saying it is possible there is no gaw that some people may get back in their homes later today. and very important note, there will be a town meeting at 2:00 this afternoon. it will be the st. roberts catholic church on crystal springs road to give the community an opportunity to get together and get answers. the san mateo coroner's

office have released the names of three people that with killed. 44-year-old jackson grig and 14-year-old genessa grig and other is jessica morales. the name of the fourth victim has not been officially released but the state warden says that the body of an 80-year-old grandmother was found. >> we checked red cross online, the hospitals, told them all. >> did you talk the fire department? >> i talked to five different police officers. >> two aunts and uncles were in the house made it out alive. 3500 evacuees are anxious to get back to their neighborhood.

the neighbor was reduced to rubble. you see the before and after image. disaster officials say it's too dangerous to let everybody back in. amy hollyfield has more on that. >> roadblocks kept people from getting answers they so desperately wanted. >> all my daughter swants her blanket. >> the chp officer says there were upset people and one man threatened him. >> they don't have the things they need. we understand. >> she wanted to know if her house was still standing. >> i understand, it's for safety. >> while people waited there was plenty of support from the community. church of the highlands held a

prayer service, the high school held another meeting. six students lost their homes. including the sophomore who was feeling overwhelmed. >> at the same time, i don't know. leak i want everything to be over. >> she was home when the explosion happened. they literally ran for their lives. >> the house next to us was in flames. it was like a volcano erupted and there was a huge plume of fire and smoke and the air was so hot. our backyard was on fire, we couldn't get to the car because it was so hot. >> their house and cat are gone.

neighborhood devastated by a gas pipeline explosion are hoping to get word today to get in and assess the damage. news crews got a quick look at the devastation. >> this is ground zero and this pipeline is what started it all. a piece of the 30-inch pipeline fits the middle of the intersection. the explosion was so strong it blew out of ground. they have been inspecting the pipe all day. still no word on what caused the high pressure pipe gas line to rupture but 378 homes were destroyed. inspectors have been going from home to home, at least what is left of them. others are still standing. those with little or no damage have been marked but others have

been red-tagged. brian is frustrated and he wants to see his house but officials are not letting people take a look just yet. >> i don't know why. >> but with smoldering ruins and crews working in the middle of the street, emergency officials have been letting people back in the area fire officials say this is the worst they've seen. a melted headlight for this car showing how extreme the temperatures were. >> i haven't seen anything like this before. >> the city manager there is no guarantees but residents could be allowed back in as early as today. city officials have listed addresses of homes that have been damaged or destroyed. find the list also at

www.abc7.com. investigators will send search teams back in to make sure there are no more new victims. four people are dead, 52 others injured including eight this critical condition. 37 homes were destroyed and eight others were seriously damaged. they revised those numbers downward after the smoke cleared. lisa amin gulezian has more on the investigation the. >> n.t.s.b. is now in charge. investigation one day after the massive explosion in san bruno, homeowners are still shut out of their neighborhoods. they no power, water or gags and there is a sewage problem. >> i feel they are responsible for it. >> judy is evacuee and she is angry and she blames pg&e for the explosion.

many say they reported a gas smell there for weeks. >> we smelled it for three weeks and multiple phone calls from different houses. peg is really good at whitewashing. >> n.t.s.b. has heard the same reports. >> one of the things we'll do is to interview anybody who has claimed they nationwide a gas odor. >> there are very upset customers of pg&e? >> there are. and that is why the xhuingts that we serve we're partnering to bringing in experts bringing for the needs of the community. >> there will be a townhall meeting for the entire community today at 2:00 at the catholic church here. >> now some of the folks who live in san bruno say they've been smelling gas long before

the explosion. >> about a week ago, it smelled like gas. >> we asked pg&e about those concerns? >> there are lot of reports that people smelled gas for some time. >> i've heard that but now that n.t.s.b. is here, i can't comment on that. >> pg&e says it has insurance that could cover billion dollars in damage by this explosion. without admitting blame, pg&e sent a filing to the sec says the costs could exceed the company's one billion dollars insurance liability and sent stock down. >> four people are in the burn center and it's best equipped to handle the serious injuries. >> all patients are in critical condition. three patients have burns over 50% of their persons. another person has 40 am burn.

>> frightening and traumatic for four people and families. the problems of complex. >> first thing is resuscitating the patient and make sure they are stable. next stage is removing non-viable tissue and then next stage is taking skin from one part of the body and putting it on the burned area. >> the call for the blood is beings answered. so many people have donated at the blood centers of the pacific it's asking attorneys to hold off for a few days. >> we're pretty much at capacity. most of our centers have a two hour wait time. we are asking them to postpone their donations for now. >> now, stanford medical center, that is a different story. folks down there, they still an

immediate need for blood and will be accepting donations today. >> the mad rush to evacuate and save their lives, some people had no choice to leave behind their pets. workers for humane society went door to door and recovered 16 to 20 animals in san bruno. the owners know they are there. >> these are animals we know their owners for them. the owners know their pets are here. we are providing temporary care until they can get into housing that are pet friendly. >> some stay for a short time but they are prepared to care for them up to one month. >> pg&e has made a one million contribution to assist the kind of charity groups is that are helping out. wells fargo has contributed $50,000 specifically to the red cross. if you want to help, here is local phone numbers for you. there is an e-mail link if you prefer on our website.
