in walnut creek tonight, a woman says she fought off an attempted rapist. amy holyfield joins us from the complexy residents are concerned. >> reporter: they're very upset. some residents toll us they moved here because they thought this apartment complex was safe. there's a security guard right here at the entrance. but now many tell us, they're talking about moving out. police say a man tried to shove a woman into an apartment just before 8:00 tonight. she fell down a flight of stairs while fighting him, but she was successful as indicating -- successful at chasing him off. >> wondering when this is going to end. >> reporter: made and her roommates had a chain lock installed on their door, and they have a pit bull, and they

much for us. so there's no way out. >> reporter: tonight's victim was taken to the hospital. just because of that fall down the stairs. she was not sexually assaulted. police don't have a description yet of her attacker, so they don't know if these last two assaults were committed by the same man. live in walnut creek, abc-7 news. >> alan: also in walnut creek, police are dealing with a plague of violent altercations in the downtown area. they posted this video on youtube today, shot by a witness last night on north main street. several people were injured in at at that least five fights at three separate locations. one man what hospitalized witness head injuries. even security guards at one bar were fighting with customers. in the videos, several fights break out, and you can see a man being bitten othe ground. tonight in san jose, firefighters are cleaning up a

spill that send a thousand gallons of diesel fuel flowing into the creek. firefighters say a generator on the roof othe at&t building malfunctioned and leaked fuel. the diesel got into the drain and into the creek. the obama administration is set to issue a travel alert for europe. they're not saying, don't go. they are warning travelers to be careful. it comes as counterterrorism officials assess intelligence about poll terrorist attacks aimed at britain, france and germany. more now. >> reporter: the state department is expected to issue a travel alert sunday, advising u.s. citizens to be extremely vigilant in europe. the new guidance is being prompted by strong concerns terrorist teams are zeroing in on targets on the continent.

intelligence and law enforcement officials have information suggesting the terrorists are ready to strike against public accomplishes such as airports, hotels, and tourist attractions. these knew al-qaida threats could be similar to the deadly 2008 shooting spree in mumbai, india. the targets are believed to include england, germany, france and italy. sweden raised its alert the highest level. britain0s security level remains at high. a travel alert is less serious than a travel warning, and all the american government cannot keep people from traveling. >> alan: the voice of only only -- osama bin laden has emerged, but he is urging muslim

nations to do more for flood victims in pakistan. the audiotape osama bin laden acknowledges ban ki-moon's visit to pakistan, and points out arab leaders did not come to help even though the distance is shorter and there are claims of brotherhood. osama bin laden accuses the media of not reporting the flooding accurately. five weeks after a big tea party event in washington, dc, liberals are hold are their own gathering. thousands of people are takenning the one nation march working together rally at the lincoln memorial. organizers say it's an antidote to the tea party. the reverend al sharpton said it's time to focus on the struggles of the american people.

>> alan: oakland police are investigating a shooting that took place in the back seat of taxicab this morning in the fruitvale district. the friendly cab company says one of the drivers picked up a fare. then someone walked up and shot the passenger in the back seat. the cabbie drove the injured passenger the emergency room at a nearby hospital. there's no word yet on the passenger's condition. scientists say their method to eradicate nonnative plants from the bottom of lake tahoe is working. crews have been using plastic sheets to rob the weeds of oxygen. the weeds, known as the eurasian water mill foyle crowd out native species, and diverrers are pulling out weeds by hand. i noticed the drop in temperatures. >> leigh: lake tahoe area, some fierce isolated thunderstorms

clouds from the system that developed to the south of the bay area. rotating some moisture our way. live doppler 7 hd picking up the isolated thunderstorms moving through the fresno and merced area, and even those showers just off the coast. so we will keep a chance of maybe a sprinkle in our forecast overnight tonight. then this is the culprit, the low pressure in southern california, wrap-around counterclockwise in moisture into the bay area, and also tomorrow morning before this low pushes on towards the east. so, a slight chance of a sprinkle or two as we head into the first part of next week, this next system will drop to the south. lows tonight, mid-to-upper 50s. if you're heading to the park tomorrow, see the giants beat san diego, we hope, it will be partly cloudy, much cooler,

meet the real meg whitman: serving on the board of goldman sachs, whitman was caught reaping millions from insider stock deals. after ebay shareholders sued and a judge cited the obvious conflict of interest she was forced to pay the money back. what kind of person would be involved in deals a fellow republican congressman called corrupt? and in her last year at ebay, whitman paid herself $120 million right before the company laid off 10% of it's workers. we're choosing a governor, shouldn't character matter?
