hillary clinton's first visit to san francisco since she became secretary of state has hundreds of people thinking about how it change world politics. there were no candidates in the november election but she did wrap up her speech with a little politics. amy hollyfield reports. >> she was definitely in friendly territory. secretary of state hillary clinton said the commonwealth club has invited her to speak several times before, but she's been busy. >> this is only the third place in the united states that i have spoken since i became secretary of state. consulted a couple of times by secretary clinton. former president bill clinton will be in the bay area tomorrow. he is one of the heavy hitters to visit california before the election. last night, he appeared at ucla with jerry brown and gavin newsom. he focused on the struggling economy. >> i agree with jerry, he is the only politician in america say this except me which is that as horrible as it is, if we learn the right lessons, when we come out of it we will be stronger than ever. >> earlier he spoke in orange county in support of democratic congresswoman loretta sanchez. >> former vice presidential sarah palin is featured speaker in anaheim. >> your next governor will have

to make tough decisions and certainly she will be working in a bipartisan manner. >> although palin has not endorsed a candidate she made it clear she wants meg whitman. she spoke in san jose on thursday night. tea party members are holding an election rally in the bay area. the pleasanton tea party had a fund-raising dinner. today the group expects more than 10,000 people to turn out for the golden state race for america. a variety of offers are scheduled to speak. >> this morning a disabled man without the van he needs to get around, she without it because thieves stole it. but they didn't just rip off a vehicle.

if you have seen the plan called alameda police. we have contact information posted at www.abc7.com. contra costa sheriff's deputies have arrested a man for rape at an apartment complex where several women have been attacked over the past few months. william yokum is suspected of the attack on the park regency apartments. he is resident of that complex and police say he knew the woman who was attacked. authorities are still looking for the man responsible for october 2nd attack. they say the description of him doesn't match yokum. there has been five aex attacks since june and berkeley man has been charged with three of them. >> at least six churches have been hit by burglars. somebody stole collection money from the church. st. francis has been targeted five times. it's responding by installing

welcome back. depending on what happens on election day in a couple of weeks, california could wind up in a showdown with the federal government. if proposition 19 passes, recreational marijuana use would be legal at the state level but as david louie reports, u.s. attorney general it still one be legal at the federal level. >> the battle is going to be over marijuana dispensing sites such as these. proposition 19 will make the distribution and possession legal in california. however, u.s. attorney general

>> is this an overreaction from katrina? >> i think so. i think they were pummeled, army corps of engineers, in those situations. they want to cover their back side but it doesn't make sense here in california. >> in 2005 there was catastrophic levee inauguration. engineers determined that the trees along the river banks compromised the levee. in the bay area there are hundred miles of levees that would be impacted including those along the russian and napa rivers including those in the south bay. removing the register station will destroy the habitat. >> the state purpose is to increase protection, however we don't necessarily agree with that. there are studies that show that vegetation and especially in california actually improve the safety of the levees. here down to the lookout.
