the west coast again this week, california, oregon and washington. traditionally democratic states, but they now have races in play. david curly, abc news, washington. >> obama's stop in california begins in the bay area on thursday with a party fundraiser followed by a los angeles campaign rally with attorney general jerry brown and senator barbara boxer at usc. then on sunday mrs. obama will be in the bay area before traveling to los angeles for senator boxer's fundraiser. and tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the november 2nd election. and it is the last day to change your registration information before the upcoming vote. in san francisco, the department of elections will accept registration forms in person until 8:00 p.m. on monday. if you send it in the mail it needs to be post, mad by tomorrow. -- postmarked by tomorrow. one man was stabbed and another beaten during the

first quarter of the 49er/raider game at candlestick park. it started with a verbal dispute and then escalated of a one man stabbed the other in the lower part of the body. the other victim had a black eye and cut to his face. the two assailants got away. one was wearing a 49ers jersey. and a pittsburgh family got out of their house safely tonight after a fire broke out in their home. the call came in around 5:40 this evening, and it took a half hour for firefighters to put it out and keep it from spreading. a witness says the fire started in the shed next to the home in the highland rurch subdivision -- ranch subdivision. no injuries were reported. san francisco police are investigating what they called a suspicious two-alarm fire in the tenderloin district. it broke out before 8:30 this morning in an apartment at the 500 block of levenworth street. it started in one of the

apartment units and spread to the floor above and to the walls. it took firefighters about an hour to get that one under control. and crews say they were hampered by tenants who didn't leave the building when the alarm sounded. >> that gave us a more difficult time getting the tenants out because of the heavy smoke coming up the stirwells. we needed to bring people up and down the fire escape lattice and down the stair wells. >> one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and several residents have been burned out of their homes. up next, new concerns about facebook tonight. the privacy breech most users may not appreciate. and a californian held in iran for 30 months is free tonight. abc news is there as he leaves prison and reunites with his wife. and the opulent room where tony bennett introduced his signature song reopened tonight. >> and hi, everyone.

intelligence warnings of new threats by al-qaeda. the threats are aimed particularly at france. french authorities thwarted two attacks in the past year and arrested 12 people for suspected it terrorist ties in the last month alone. the capsule used to bring out the 33 trapped miners is heading to the chilean capital. it will be placed on the square in front of the presidential palace in santiago. another sign of the collective pride in the rescue. today some of the miners gave thanks at a mass above ground at the mine they were trapped. they were joined by family and friends. they were recovering physically from the deal, but their future is uncertain because the mine is is cloud indefinitely. for now, each of the miners has gotten about $12,000 in donations. well, it has been dark for two decades.

[applause] >> nobody does it better than prize come composer when it comes to playing the music at the venetian room at the historic faremont hotel. the cabaret-style room returned to the limelight. it is a room that has a future now and a past. it was here that a certain coping about leaving -- certain song about leaving one's heart in san francisco was sung for the very first time. and today marks the 21st anniversary of the 1989 loma prieta earthquake. it struck at 5:34, just before the start of game three of the world series between the giants and a's at candlestick park. the magnitude 6.9 quake lasted only about 15 seconds, but it left 63 people dead. it injured more than 3700 people and caused billions of dollars in damage. so are you prepared for the big one? the next big one?

on thursday there will be a statewide earthquake drill conducted at 10:21 in the morning. that's when schools, businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations will drop, cover and hold on as part of the great california shakeout drill. leigh is here to talk about the gloomy, drizzly weather now. >> we had some rain. >> will it last? >> a quarter of an inch in santa rosa. and right now napa reporting a little light rain as some of the moisture continues to feed or circulate around the bay area. this is a nice shot from the east bay cam. you can see the low overcast and we will more than likely see the fog forming by early tomorrow morning as well. you can get to the current readings. 53 right now in san francisco. oakland is at 59. we have 53 in livermore. here is a look at highlights for you. we will continue with a few scattered showers overnight. but fog will be with us as well. for clearing and a warmer day

for our monday, and then this dry weather pattern will hold through about midweek. after that though we may see more rain move across the bay area. lows tonight in the north bay, you will see some of the clearing in the mid to upper 40s. chilly there. otherwise, look for overnight temperatures in the mid to low 50s across the bay area. check out live doppler 7hd. you can see what i'm talking about here. the low is here, and we talk about the counter clockwise motion. you can clearly see the wrap around moisture starting to move mainly in the north bay. down to petaluma and even novato is picking up some rain. this has moved through american canyon and vallejo. we will go ahead and spin it again, and you can get a sense of where all of this is pushing. it is moving from east to west and it is moving to mill valley and head back over the golden gate bridge. it was the next 15 to 20 minutes. there is a lower pressure off the coast, and it is moving to the south of the bay area. but once again you can see the

wrap around moisture. as this low treks to the south, all of this moisture will push to the south. expect the clearing throughout the course of tonight. you can see as we head through the evening, as the low pushes to the south of us, we will start to see breaks in the overcast. definitely tomorrow morning probably some fog for the early-morning commute. and then by tomorrow afternoon , we will definitely see the clearing as the low exits the area. get ready for plenty of sunshine for your monday. here is a look at your highs for monday. with more sun, the temperatures will come up. 70 for san jose. 69 for santa clara. at the coast, half moon bay, morning fog and a partial afternoon clearing. 59 degrees there. menlo park, 66, 69 for palo alto. san francisco, 64 degrees. in the north bay, that's when we will see a little more sunshine, warmer temperatures. santa rosa 74. sonoma 74. novato 73. vallejo 70.

oakland will warm to 68 degrees. we will have 70 for union city. even in the east bay, concord at 72. brentwood into the mid70s, 74 for antioch with afternoon sunshine, and 66 for watsonville. sunny and mild and as you can see by tuesday and wednesday, just in time for the giants to be here, temperatures are near 80 degrees. 70s around the bay. 60s at the coast. we will thicken the clouds on thursday. another chance of showers will move in here by friday. the next weekend could be questionable. we may all get wet as we head into saturday night and sunday. we'll keep you posted. >> tuesday, wednesday and thursday, the baseball games? >> looks great. >> thanks, leigh. at least 20,000 women were out today in san francisco for the seventh nike women's marathon. and neither the rain nor the fog deer ited them, probably -- detered them because the runners were the purpose. it came after awareness for

you know it's bad when the press asks if you'd take a lie detector test. meg whitman didn't tell the truth about not voting or about how long she lived in california. she got caught in insider deals at goldman sachs. she changed her story about physically abusing an employee. she campaigned as tough as nails on immigration knowing her housekeeper of 9 years was undocumented. her tv ads have been condemned as false and misleading.

cody ross was on fire tonight. >> we were watching it, and we thought it was a replay of his first two homeruns last night. he hit more tonight, but it wasn't enough. the phillies show the giants why they won national back to back titles as oswalt evened the series at a game apiece. giants had high hopes to come home with a 2-0 series lead. but sanchez was a bit out of sorts. 1-0 philly. bruce bochy and not happy with that call. but sanchez settled down. he gets worth swinging. one of seven k's. still 1-0 and cody ross is super human for the second straight night. he breaks up a no hitter. his third in two games.

the game tied at one. we go bottom of seven. sanchez out of the game. ramone ramirez gives up a single to paw plan co. -- p li anco. he runs through the sopa sign and beats the throw -- the stop sign at home. the alameda native drives one off the wall and he clears the bases to make it 6-1. and that was more than enough for oswalt. phillies even the series at one apiece with a 6-1 victory. >> you know, we gave them some extra outs and it wasn't a clean game for us. you have to play your best ball to beat this team. we were a little off. >> you don't celebrate until you win four games. you know, once we get to that point, you can look back and say that was a big hit. but for now, you know, it just gave us a little breathing room. >> first game in the series that wasn't a one-run game. games three, four, five are tuesday, wednesday and thursday at at&t mark park.

battle of the bay. the niners were looking for their first win and the raiders were looking to go 3 and 3. it was ugly until the second half. jason campbell in for injured grad cow ski. you run the reverse. the wet surface field everybody. 43 yards down the sideline and set up janikowski's second field goal. the niners breakthrough. deep over the middle and crabtree with a great catch. 49ers on top 10-6. the fourth quarter and 10-9, niners. gore breaks free. he ran for 149 yards on the day. this his longest of the season. down to the raider 15, and the niners are in business. it sets up this two plays later. he finds a wide open vernon davis. 17 yards and niners up 17-9.

so they are on the road for two weeks. the pga tour in the south and he had an eagle in all four rounds. the final eagle won the tournament. rocco entered the round with a three-stroke lead. here is his second shot from 116 yards. look at this. his fourth eagle in as many days. that eagle won the tournament for rocco at 15 under. his first pga tour victory. he is ranked 450th in the world since 2002. and in danville, the final round play of the cvs pharmacy. 23-year-old rookie of spain. the long iron and had just enough carry to cross the hazard. it stops within 15 feet. she drops to 15 under. she get a one-stroke victory.
