17th avenue in sap ma -- san mateo. no word on when power will be restored here. pg&e has yet to return our calls. >> alan: and in the north bay, there's about a foot of standing water on highway 116. and a huge tree came crashing down on a house this morning. i crashed into an empty back bedroom. all four rot rts in the house are fine. >> i thought it was really long thunder, like a really long, loud thunder, and then it sounded like an earthquake. >> alan: ground delay is in effect at san francisco international airport because of the wet and windy weather. delays are expected to add up two hours for inbound flights and that will have an effect on

outbound flights as well. san jose and oakland are about 15 minutes behind schedule. for a better look at the big green blob over the bay area, let's go to leigh glaser. >> leigh: most of the heaviest rain has moved towards the east. we're actually seeing some partial clearing in some locations. you can see live doppler 7 hd, most of the heaviest rain has moved out. in the north bay, we're still get something nice returns, santa rosa. and we're sweeping live. much of this activity will continue to dissipateover night, and maybe a few isolated showers. looks like the worst is over. los gatos with some sprinkles, rainfall totals, so impressive. st. helena, over five inches of rain. santa rosa, over three.

mill valley, over two, and you can see almost an inch, san francisco and oakland. so quite impressive, and we have more rain in my accuweather seven-day forecast coming up. >> alan: in napa tonight, police are trying to figure out how a patient killed a psychiatric technician inside a mental hospital today. it happened at the napa state hospital. wayne friedman reports, this is not the first time there have been security concerns. >> reporter: there are those who work inside napa state hospital who say that last night's murder of a psychiatric technician was a long-time coming, was predictable and preventible. >> we always wondering, is today my day? aim going to be the one? >> it's a long-time nurse in the hospital, one of several staff members who spoke on the condition we disguise this identities. working conditions are bad.

>> told not to speak to the press. >> they don't want to be exposed. >> reporter: those complaints go back several years. psychologists, staff members have gone on record saying the hospital does not protect them from mental patients patients wm around freely with no fear of consequences for violent behavior. >> on every unit, every day. we're talking about getting hit of the head with cement blocks. talking about attempted rapes. staffing pulled into rooms, and beaten to where they can no longer open their eyes. >> reporter: when an attack happens they say it takes several minutes for the hospital police to arrive. today the police were guarding the front answer of the exphopt threatened arrest when we tried to enter a public parking lot. >> they should be on the units protecting the staff. >> reporter: what angers staff even more, they say hospital management knew of a murder

threat but did not pass it along. >> management chose not to inform us. >> reporter: today, napa state hospital had no response to any of the charges by its employees. they say they want safety. they want security. the same provisions that correctional officers get inside state prisons. they want them inside napa state hospital. >> how bad is it? >> bad. on a scale of one to 10 on a pain rating, it's a 10, 11, 15 on -- yesterday. >> outside napa state hospital, abc-7 news. >> alan: returning to the race for governor, new los angeles -- "los angeles times" poll is stirring up a debate. it shows jerry brown leading whitman 52-39%. brown's lead has doubled in the last month. whitman's campaign saying it's old, statistically flawed and in

no way a current snapshot. it assumes a turnot of dem democrats. >> brown stopped in compton today with harris, the democratic candidate for attorney general. the two appeared at three different black churches hoping to get the black voters through the polls on november 2nd. times poll shows barbara boxer holding to her 8% margin over carly fiorina. boxer's leades stick which i -- statistically unchanged from april. first lady misch -- michelle obama is going to be in the bay area. nancy pelosi confirms the first lady will be attending a fundraiser at the fairmont hotel

in san francisco. it will be her second bay area visit since her husband took office. the last visit here was in june of 2009. >> san jose police are offering a 10 thousand reward for taking sunny money on measure v" signs. this cams after they posted this video on youtube which shows city council member pierre louie iol' ol' oliverio with signs in his trunk. he says they were on public property and can be taken down. >> we encourage members of the community to come forward with any information they may have to ensure this childish and illegal behavior ends immediately. >> needs to be pointed out how many illegal signs are up by this campaign committee all over the city.

if you'd take a lie detector test. meg whitman didn't tell the truth about not voting or about how long she lived in california. she got caught in insider deals at goldman sachs. she changed her story about physically abusing an employee. she campaigned as tough as nails on immigration knowing her housekeeper of 9 years was undocumented. her tv ads have been condemned as false and misleading. and even her hometown newspaper said meg whitman has demonstrated "a loose relationship with the truth"
