and even her hometown newspaper said meg whitman has demonstrated "a loose relationship with the truth" night in the dark after a huge power outage knocks out the lights to 15,000 pg&e customers. good evening, everyone. abc7's lilian kim is at oakland police headquarters tonight where the power was restored a few hours ago. lilian, what's the latest out there? >> alan, about 3800 customers are still without power, but the lights are back on at the oakland police department. officers were without power for nearly seven hours. fortunately their emergency dispatch center is at another location and wasn't affected. the oakland police department brought in a portable generator to light up the building's lobby. the power went out in the

afternoon, and since then they kept busy setting up freeway off-ramps lights where they weren't working. >> now they have additional duties to deal with, traffic outages and that. we are putting flares in area we think can cause problems. >> much of downtown oakland were in the dark. residents say right before the power went out, they heard a boom and saw a flash which they believe came from this sub station on second street. >> i heard it boom as i was walking out the door. it sounded like a train cart had dropped or something. it was really loud. but i didn't know exactly what it was. >> despite the outage, bed, bath and beyond remained open. workers completed transactions manually, but bart decided to close the station, and many

businesses shut their doors too. tonight chinatown seemed more like a ghost town. we have no power to cook so they left. >> across town near foothill boulevard, more weather-related problems, but here residents were dealing with a leak. the red cross helped families move to other vacant units after the water started flowing through the light fixtures. >> the water was coming out of the circuit box. i called the fire department because it was a disaster to me. nobody else was acting like it was an emergency. i called the fire department. they red taged it and told us to get out. >> as for the remaining customers without electricity, no word on when their power will be restored. pg&e hasn't given an estimate. lil -- lilian kim, abc news. and in the north bay there was a foot of standing water. and there was a huge oak tree

that went crashing into a house on romando drive. all four adults in the house at the time are fine. >> at first i thought it was a really long thunder, like a really long, loud thunder. then it sounded like an earthquake. >> on the peninsula, pg&e crews worked to fix a downed power line that got caught in trees on 17th avenue and san mateo. this is what traffic looked like on busy el camino real. it is a reminder to slow down in this rainy weather and pay attention during tomorrow's commute. now what's to come and let's go to meteorologist leigh glaser. >> well, it has since moved out of the area. clearly you can see that most of the activity has started to dry up a bit. we still have a little bit of sprinkles and light rain toward san jose headed down toward the gilroy area.

very, very light indeed. but we may see a few more just light showers pop up from time to time. we will keep it in the forecast and then take it out tomorrow. plenty of sunshine for your monday. but would you look at some of the impressive 24-hour storm totals? santa rosa, over three inches. over two inches the past 24 hours in the napa area. san francisco and oakland, close to an inch there. of course, lesser amounts as you head toward san jose. quite impressive storm system, and more rain is expected as we head to the latter part of the workweek. well, the san francisco giants are back in town to prepare for game one of the world series. hundreds of faithful fans waited in the pouring rain in hopes of getting a glimpse of the returning team. thomas roman shows us how they got a lot more than a glimpse. >> the giants arrived to at&t park to screams and chants.

they were waiting to see if they could at least see the new national league champs get off the buses. what they didn't expect was a warm and classy welcome from some of the players including high five's from the team's hero. the giants' manager said players would not be available to anyone, but they were so overwhelmed by the crowds that they took the time to talk to us. >> this is unbelievable. i never expected this when we got back to san francisco. it is amazing. we have a great fan base here. >> have your feet hit the ground yet? >> not yet. once we get settled in, this has been great. >> we would have liked to have done it at tomorrow's game, but to come back and have the fans here for us, it shows you what great fans we have. >> and these fans are infected with giant fever. the fever is contagious. and it created a run on giant's gear at at&t stores. crowds of fans bought t-shirts, hats and just about everything they could get

their hands on that said national league champions. it is an economic boom they are enjoying due to the win. and the boom is spreading to other businesses in the area and the city. the restaurant manager jack bloom. >> the waiters and bar bartenders and the star loves it. -- the staff loves it. giants and winning increase tips. >> at the tavern across the street, they are cashing in on giants fever. >> business has been booming and every game is wall to wall. >> they say the playoffs and the world series would bring revenue to san francisco, revenue the city really needs. in san francisco, abc7 news. on to the election, now just nine days out as we enter the last full week of campaigning the chairman of the republican and democratic parties are not shy about making bold predictions. >> it is about turnout and ground game. we are seeing good early voting trends, and we have work to do, but we think we can do it. >> i think you will see a

wave, an unprecedented wave on election day. it will surprise a lot of people. tomorrow president obama is back on the campaign trail and encouraging democrats to get out the vote. he appears to be staying away from house speaker pelosi, at least in public. last night they were both in minnesota, but the only sight of them together was a brief glimpse before pelosi boarded air force one for a ride back to washington. a new los angeles times poll is giving jerry brown a commanding lead in the race for governor. it shows brown leading republican meg whitman52 to 39% among voters. brown's lead has doubled since last month. the whitman campaign is blasting it saying it is old, statistically flawed and not a snap shot of the race. it shows barbara boxer holding on to her eight-point margin over carly fiorina.

brown's lead is unchanged from september. today brown and boxer campaigned together in southern california. they both spoke at a rally in van nuys where boxer criticized fiorina's support of prop 23 that would suspend the state's landmark global warming restrictions. >> and we needed a fighter for the clean energy future. it is now and it is neat. >> senator dianne feinstein and two senators will visit a solar panel manufacturer in san jose. meanwhile boxer's republican challenger, carly fiorina made a stop in sacramento today. she visited gop headquarters and she even took a call and spoke to voters personally. even though fioria is trailing in the polls, the ceo of hewlett-packard says she is hopeful that voters will make

police to arrive. they threatened arrest when abc tried to enter a public parking lot. >> they should be protecting the staff and the patient. >> what angers staff even more is that hospital management knew of a murder threat against them, but they did not pass it along. >> why management chose not to inform us -- >> today napa state hospital had no response to any of the charges by its employees. they say they want safety and security. the same provisions that correctional officers get inside state prisons, they want them in napa state hospital. >> how bad is it? >> bad. on a scale of 1-10 i would say it is a 10, 11. >> outside napa state hospital in napa, wayne freedman, abc news. >> san jose police and firefighters are offering a $10,000 reward to catch people who were illegally taking no on measure v campaign signs.

th is one of the most contentious campaigns san jose has seen in quite some time. this come after the no on measure v campaign posted this video on youtube yesterday which shows city councilmember him handing over the no on v signs from the back of his car to police. he says the signs were illegally placed on public property and by law he and any other volunteer can remove them on behalf of the city. >> while he was found in possession of only four signs yesterday, hundreds of signs have gone missing in the last few weeks. >> it needs to be put -- to be talked about. i saw 20 illegal signs in one small area. i saw three on my drive over here. >> the officers and firefighters are campaigning against measure v while olivero supports the yes on v campaign. now if passed, measure v would limit the raises police and

firefighters can gain through contract arbitration. and it is snowing in colorado's rocky mountains tonight. loveland ski area was the first ski resort to open today. it has eight inches of fresh powder on top of the man made snow. and that was enough to open a one-mile run this morning. it has been such a wacky year in weather, i am not surprised. >> they say they are gonna try and open this friday. yes, it is this friday october 29th if they can continue to make snow overnight. put that down on the calendar, go on the web and check the amount and see if they in fact are open this coming friday. here is a look at live doppler 7hd. you can see most of the showers from that storm system has started to taper off. and we will continue to see that overnight tonight. 57 -- right now and 60 in oakland and 60 in antioch and

62 in san jose. here are a few highlights. maybe just a few lippingering showers overnight. possibly just sprinkles. otherwise some sunshine for your monday and then we will keep it dry right through wednesday. here is a look at our lows tonight. in the mid to low 50s. a little clearing out there. it is a little cooler. napa getting down to 50. you can see san francisco and livermore 51. and we will look for a chance of the fog developing as well. this is the storm system that barrels through the bay area earlier today. we are now on the backside of. it clearly you can see some of the breaks in the overcast taking place. we will go with clearing conditions as we head into our monday. overnight we will continue to keep a few -- just a slight chance of maybe a few more little impulses rotating in. a chance of a light shower or two. otherwise we will take the moisture out for our monday and bring on the sunshine after a little patchy fog tomorrow morning.

of course with a little more sunshine that will translate to temperatures warming up a little more as well. how about some low 60s -- mid to low 60s in the south bay? los gatos 65. at the coast we will look for a mixture of sun and clouds. probably dealing with a little fog. but half moon bay, look for afternoon clearing. 59 there and 64 for palo alto. san francisco, 60 degrees. a mixture of sun and clouds. we will look for temperatures mid to low 60s. petaluma 62. 63 for saw saw saw -- for sonoma. 62 for newark and east bay locations you can see concord and brentwood and antioch in the mid to low 60s. antioch 63 and 64 for concord and livermore tomorrow afternoon, 64 degrees. 61 for santa cruz and gilroy 65. now, looking out ahead, we will get more rain in here, but this is how i see it right now, monday, tuesday and wednesday, especially for the first giants' game, always
