in the news this saturday morning, october 30th, at least three people, including a pregnant woman, are shot outside a daly city movie theater. at least 16 partygoers attending a halloween concert at the cow palace are treated for drug overdoses. i'm theresa garcia. let's begin with a check on the rain system making its way through the bay area. meteorologist lisa argen joins us with a first look. lisa, is it going to last? >> it's not. the rainfall totals have been most i mpressive in the north bay. ending in napa. a tenth around hayward. take a look what's going on in the east bay south of the livermore valley. you have a few showers but further south through morgan hill looking mostly at the light rain and offshore around santa

cruz. the area of low pressure responsible for the showers beginning to move in and shutting off the showers from north to south. so we will look for lingering showers this morning. not a lot of cloud cover. then partly cloudy and then we have a trend towards warmer and drier weather the rest of the weekend and into next week. theresa. >> lisa, thank you. daly city police are looking for a man who shot three people, including a pregnant woman outside the century theater on sarah boulevard last night. it started around 11:00 with a bump between a suspect and victim that escalated to a fight and gunfire. all the victims are hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. the search for the shooter described as 20 years old, no arrests have been made. he was last seen running through a pedestrian tunnel that leads to the daly city bart station. also in daly city 16 people attending a cow palace music event last night had to be hospitalized for drug and

alcohol overdoses. two are in critical condition this morning. they were attending the subsonic soupfest put on by light 105 radio. it was open to partygoers age 16 and up. it's the second time this year numerous people at the cow pal lals have been hospitalized for drug-related injuries. on may 29th, nine people overdosed and two of them died leaving city officials to consider banning raids at the cow palace. a man facing charges in the beating of a catholic priest who abused him 25 years ago denies any involvement. william lynch turned himself into police yesterday. he was booked at the santa clara county jail and released last night. lisa amin gulezian reports that investigators believe the assault of father lindher was payback. >> william lynch walked out of the santa clara jail six hours after turning himself in. the 43-year-old is accused of

severely beating father lindher where lindher lives at care for convalescent priests. he insills the father is far from innocent and the attack from the retirement home was planned. >> he asked whether the father was there. the answer was, yes, he was there and he showed up a half hour later. >> the beating happened in this room in front of several people. they say lindher's attacker asked do you know who i am? >> father lindher was not aware who it was. >> but lynch and lindher have a history. the suspect and his brother accuse the priest of sexual abuse. the province awarded the brothers $625,000 back in 1998. lindher's family also accused the priest of sexually assaulting his own relatives. >> this is the worst of the worst. i understand they're accusing my

client of doing that but, again, it could be one of a number of people. >> debbie lucas and her family used to go camping with father litter. >> he was sexually abusing us. >> she knows the lynch brothers and what happened to them. she didn't want to comment but did say she doesn't blame lindher's attacker. >> there have many times i have contemplated doing all kinds of things to father jerry. i just don't wanna lose my freedom over it. but i don't think it's right that he's free. >> there are no other suspects at this time. and police say the reason it took them so long to make an arrest is because they had to have search warrants issued and go through lots of phone records. in los gatos, lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. >> a tip from saudi intelligence helped terror attacks aimed at united states from yemen late thursday night. u.s. officials believe al-queda in yemen tried to ship

explosives in several air cargo packages in chicago. that group is linked and here's carolyn johnson with the latest. >> this ink toner cartridge with wires attached was discovered in a ups cargo area in england. another suspicious package was found in dubai. both were addressed to chicago area synagogues. >> initial examination of those packages determined they do apparently contain explosive material. >> the discovery of the two bombs prompted an inspection of every package of flights coming to yemen. flighter jets escorted the flight from dubai as it landed at kennedy airport in new york. >> the american people should know the counterterrorism professionals are taking this threat very seriously and are taking all necessary and prudent steps to insure our security. >> the department of homeland security is increasing its

presence at airports and has ordered stepped up screening on both cargo and passenger planes. >> 9.7 million pounds a day go on board passenger planes in the united states. and the vast majority of that is not secured, is not x-rayed, does not go through any kind of secure scrutiny. >> aviation consultant ron wilson estimates only 20% of packages that go into the belly of planes are inspected. he says shipping companies simply don't have the equipment or manpower to screen every piece of cargo. >> that's ridiculous. we need to have everything on a passenger plane screened the same high level. >> that was carolyn johnson reporting. the search for additional explosives is continuing. both ups and fedex say they have halted shipments from yemen. a world series win in four games would be a dream come true for giants fans but a halloween nightmare for san francisco police. abc 7's amy holyfield reports on

neighborhood. lillian kim reports. >> san bruno residents put up a united front despite written assurances by pg&e that the pipeline will be moved. many wore t-shirts urging the utility to relocate the pipe. >> the neighbors are sticking together and we're going to keep the pressure on so that pipe is gone. >> this is the second town hall meeting since the pipeline explosion and representatives from pg&e and a wide range of agencies came to give updates. >> you're going to see a significant more activity from pg&e's blue trucks. we are continuing to patrol and inspect our pipelines on a regular basis and will be increasing that as we get forward into the winter season. >> the neighborhood looks much different than it did in the days following the blast. the debris has been cleared and the lots have been cleaned up. >> we were going to leave the property so that a three-year-old could walk on it. we succeeded on that. all soil samples are showing

we're well below a background level in soil. >> as to what called the explosion, residents are still waiting for an answer. a representative with the national transportation safety board told the audience it's conducting a number of tests. >> 33 san carlos police officers will be sworn in as sheriffs deputies. this is the final weekend for the san carlos police department as the city contracts out police services to outsourcing to the sheriffs deputy will save $2 million a year over five years. the police station will remain open as a sheriff's substation and the residents won't notice much change except for a star on police cars and uniforms. members of both departments are cross training for their new duties. cal state students are likely to see annual tuition go up when csu trustees meet in long beach. they're expected to approve a 5% mid year increase for the spring

plus another 10% hike for fall 2011. this will be the 6th and 7th tuition increases since 2007. state university officials blame state funding cuts. if approved, annual tuition for undergraduates which is now about $4200 would rise by $654 next fall and that's more than $4800. that doesn't include mandatory fees, housing, books or the meals. for the weather, we seem to be lightening up on the rain. >> absolutely. we have a little light rain in napa and san jose in morning but from this shot you can see just a few areas of clouds out in the distance and we'll be looking at improving conditions drying out throughout the day and the rest of the weekend. your forecast is straight ahead. >> also coming up, a conversation with buster posey as the giants prepare for the pivotal game three in the world series this afternoon. @t@t@t@t

are quickly shutting off from north to south. talking about the rain. and, in fact, that's going to be the trend for the next several days. here's a look at live doppler 7 hd. we're in the east bay. east of livermore. we've got a few showers out towards tracy, east of milpitas and further south looking at north and east of morgan hill. so the south bay getting a few showers finally and watsonville and santa cruz this morning, a few light showers. the trend will be for the rain from the south bay into the santa cruz area and then shutting off from north to south. with a lot of cloud cover and then some sunshine. notice over the past couple hours our aerial coverage of the rain has decreased significantly. so we are looking at the mist and drizzle and the cool numbers. san francisco oakland, low 50s. 53 san jose. lingering showers into the east

bay this afternoon and the treat for halloween as high pressure moves back into the forecast. the cold front and the area of low pressure's been offshore all week long. finally inched its way inland overnight and it's moving to the east steadily. so with it the precipitation goes, we have a little south wind this morning. and then as the area of low pressure fades off to the east, we'll see the showers end. high pressure building from the south and west. that will send this next storm system to the north and west -- to the north. we're going to stay dry, mild and with some very comfortable temperatures in the week ahead. today a little cool with a lot of cloud cover throughout the morning hours and a few lingering showers. sunnyvale, milpitas with upper 60s and campbell, san jose. then partly cloudy, 65 menlo park. even some fog though by millbrae and by the airport. maybe a few delays on arriving flights.

organizations are using this remote land for massive marijuana farms. it is so remote that law enforcement has to fly helicopters to spot the pot plants. >> this time of year this is the only type of plant that's really being watered and it's really the greenest and just stands out from the air. >> the u.s. forest service allowed the eye-team to escort firefighters and deputies on a raid last month. it took us an hour and a half to hike steep terrain to get to the site and really these the point for the pot growers. >> they don't want to be detected, contacted by the public or us. that's why they're in the middle of nowhere. >> the pot farmers learned the terrain during the four- to five-month growing season and can usually spot the authorities before they arrive at the camp. that's what happened at this raid. >> there were suspects that get away. we weren't able to capture them.

>> their camp showed the workers were there for the long haul. a few kitchen with supplies, spices, vegetables, canned meats, rahman noodles, the stove with a propane tank, a hammock, tent and trash left behind including pesticides. >> the goal is keep these insects and the rats and things away from their plants. >> the growers dammed a stream, lined the pool with tarps and ran irrigation hoses across the mountainside. they cut away trees and cleared brush and terraced the hillside to plant thousands of marijuana plants. >> this plant here will produce more buds. this whole top piece will be a bud. once it's fully matured. once that's done, they'll start processing it. >> the work to tear it all out was gruelling. a small crew of firefighters and special agents trudged up and down the mountainside clipping the plants, counting them.

morning for a little bit. the second half of the afternoon quite different. live doppler 7 hd confirms the rain around santa cruz and highway 1 but elsewhere we're really looking at things drying up around san jose and the monterey bay. here's how it looked earlier. notice all the green, even the yellows on the screen. over the past two hours, things have quieted down significantly so we've gone from the moderate rain to light rain just to mist and drizzle and things beginning to dry out. it's 52 in novato as well as fremont this morning and mountain view. we're looking at numbers mainly the low to mid-50s so a narrow range this morning, a narrow range this afternoon because we still will be under the influence of an area of low pressure that wants to hold on the next couple hours. scattered showers this morning, lingering into the afternoon in the east bay and a treat for halloween which will feature dry conditions.

the area of low pressure offshore all day yesterday threatening rain, bringing a little here and there. and it's taken about two days for it to finally head on to the east. and as it moves to the east, we saw the generous supply of moisture throughout the morning hours and the overnight hours you probably heard the rain on your roof. with it inching eastward, it's taking the rain with it. our computer animation shows the low headed inland. you may have noticed the counterclockwise flow of that rain. as it slides to the east, heads into the mountains we'll look for more rain there and high pressure building in from the south and west. that's going to cut off the supply of moisture. keep this next front deflected to the north. as it builds in, we'll see warming and drying conditions throughout the afternoon today. more significantly tomorrow for halloween and then looking at a dry and mild forecast for next week. 65 in sunnyvale and manipulate

mid to upper 70s and upper 60s at our coast. >> haven't seen such a clear week in a long time. >> next weekend we'll change the clocks. >> again -- well, again. twice a year. >> if your child has been bullied, you know what a helpless feeling it can be and worse when they're bullied for their sexuality. young people who are gay, lesbian or bisexual are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. here's dan ashley with what you can do to help stop it. >> seth's family knew i was being bullied at school but they didn't know how bad it was. the 13-year-old hanged himself from a tree near bakersfield this summer. >> it was a very unique and wonderful child. >> seth had been picked on for years because he was gay. suicide is one of many that made headlines across the country in recent months.

lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender teens that took their own lives. >> i lost friends just like anyone else. i lost them to suicide. >> we sat with alex, andre, sanake and a. j. at the transsexual community center in san jose. they all came out in high school. they say the bullying is relentless. >> if i was going to the bathroom they'd follow me and group around to see which one i was going to go in. >> i've been dragged across the quad from my collar. >> i started getting blamed. that's when i would hear words like faggot or queer. >> it's not always from other teenagers. alex says during a national day of protest for gay rights, even teachers weren't very supportive. >> and put duct tape on my mouth and like silence. the teachers come up to some students and they're like my god, thank god, you're silent

for a day. >> a study found that nine out of ten, nine out of ten lbgt students experienced harassment at school. three-fifths felt unsafe because of their sexual orientation. about one-third skipped a day of school the past month because they felt unsafe. >> i felt so alone because i -- you know, even my friends wouldn't really stand up for me. they just -- all move friends were making fun of me. >> one key to solving the problem is getting teens to talk to their parents. kaitlyn ryan is the director of the family acceptance project at san francisco state university. for the last nine years ryan has been studying family acceptance and rejection and how that affects the health of lbgt children. she says fear can lead to depression, drug abuse and rais raises risk of suicide. >> some people were terrified to
