[ female announcer ] so with keurig, every cup tastes like it's brewed just forou. ♪ because it is. choose. brew. enjoy. keurig. >> alan: good evening. i'm acknowledge wang. people spent much of the day getting soaked as a soggy fall continues. umbrellas provided some protection for these people this afternoon. drivers have been dealing with slick conditions an local streets and highways, and when it rains in the bay area, that usually means snow falls in the sear. a here's -- sierra.

here's a look from earlier today. >> leigh: we knew it was coming during the first part of our sunday, and it moved through rapidly. live doppler 7 hd still picking up a few lingering showers put much of the heaviest rain has moved out. so picking up a light shower in napa, vallejo, richmond right now, brief shower. tracy, french camp as well, picking up shower activity. all of this has moved from north to south, and will continue to press towards the southern portions of the region. rainfall totals quite impressive. san francisco, over an inch. close to an inch in mill valley. a little over -- a quarter inch in oakland. lesser amounts towards san jose.

>> alan: one travel note. sfo is reporting 45 minute delays on all arrivals and depart tours. along with the storm came some good and bad. we have been weathering it out all day, and cecelia is live with the people at ft. mason. >> reporter: they're saying it's all good, dude. we're outside the san francisco ski and snowboard festival. it could start raining any minute after a brief afternoon repeople -- preprevious. for these folks here, the prorain, the better. >> the sheets of powering rain outside brought smiles inside the san francisco ski and boardfest. >> this rain is snow in tahoe so all these vendors here have to drive home through a snow storm, and we are happy. >> reporter: skiers will see white soon, and that means nothing but green for this vendors.

>> snow flakes look like dollar bills to me a. >> reporter: it maintain headaches on bay area roadways. the weather brought a high wind advisory on the bay bridge, and drivers following too close and driving too fast brought the annual plea to slow down from the highway patrol. >> just drive safe, and make sure you -- if you need to stop, you know, slow down first before you come to a stop, and just be aware of other drivers on the road. >> reporter: the roads were more than just wet in some parts they were a mess. this tree split in one neighborhood in san francisco. and downed power lines briefly affected muni service. the final round of the charles schwab cup championship at harding park was put on hold for two hours because of a rain delay and these tourists were forced to put the plans on hold. no raiders game. >> i love the rain. other than not going to the football game, it is not putting

a damper on my vacation. >> reporter: the only thing it put a damper on was a view of the city skyline. >> for skiers and snowboarders, last year was a good year. two years before that they were dismal. everyone out here today is hoping this november rain means they're going to be able to head to the sierras any day now. >> alan: the rain did not stop veterans day parades from marching in the bay area. tomas roman covered the day and got reaction on a hotly debated military issue. >> reporter: about 300 people lined a rain-soaked main street to celebrate veterans day in pleasanton. the show of support moved many veterans. >> what i think? just a lot of emotions. proud of the country.

and i'm happy to be here. >> just proud that people turned out for this and we can have this kind of show. >> reporter: today is the 56th 56th sell brags of veterans day. the holy holiday was started back in 1954 by president eisenhower. in san francisco, the parade didn't draw a large crowd, but those who did attend thought the marchers and bands were fantastic. one veteran said the "don't ask, don't tell" policy is just as dismal. >> at it is our obligation and responsibility as veterans to challenge policies that are costing our country and are failing our veterans. >> the state senator agrees. >> the idea that we set policy for people who want to give their lives for our freedom, are expected to lie about who they are. holiday is that good for unit cohesion? >> robert gates says that congress should act quickly and repeal the military ban on gays before new members take their

seats, but the general james amos feels differently. he said: i don't know what the effect will be on cohesion, it's unit cohesion, combat effectiveness. >> veterans we poke to -- spoke to shared their points. >> my master sergeant was gay, and then it came out and didn't make any difference to us. >> anybody that puts this uniform on and is willing to sacrifice overseas, i'm more than welcome to have them next to me. >> reporter: abc-7 news. >> alan: a group called wild rescue is trying to rakes rescue bay area see gulls withber cans on their neck. one apparently cor collared them with aluminum cans. they need to by a piece of equipment to catch the gulls.

it runs $3,500. in the meantime, they're asking people not to catch them because it will only scare them off. this week, most of the snreetz the san bruno neighborhood destroyed by september's gas line explosion will re-open. the crater itself will remain untouched until the investigation is complete. the september 9th disaster killed eight people. san bruno city manager tells our media partner, the san jose mercury news, that chairman claremont and fairmont drive could re-open as early as thursday. guards and fencing will surround the crater site until the investigation is complete. residents of 16 papers in antioch are waiting to fine out when they can return home after an early morning fire. that fire broke out around 2:30 this morning on lone tree way. firefighters say four apartments were destroyed and several others damaged. one woman in a second-floor apartment was burped and taken -- burned and taken to a

local hospital. a resident had gone outside and everything seemed normal. minutes later the complex was burning. >> fire and everything. i just go, wow. grab everything that i could, and i got out. time to go. >> alan: building inspectors hope to know by tomorrow how many units are safe enough to live inch investigators are trying to determine how the fire started. there's much more still ahead, including president obama's dance moves in india. with the november election results force him to move to a different beat? the war of words in washington [ cell phone rings ] [ john ] i love these new cell phones. >> alan: president obama pledged to make what he calls mid-course corrections to jump start his domestic agenda while in asia. those comments came while mr. obama visited india nearly a week after the democrats lost their majority in the house of representatives amp college student. >> a college student asked the president about the election. >> the people are not happy. it's their rierkts obligation and duty to express their unhappiness, much to the regrets sometimes of incumbents.

>> alan: indian school children coaxed mr. obama into joining them a celebration of how they celebrate their biggest holiday. president obama is scheduled to visit three other asian nations. abc news has learned that indonesia could be dropped from the list. ash clouds from a giant volcano there have made air travel there risky, and some international flights have been suspended. it has claimed 138 lives and is continuing to shoot ash into the sky. the dust is barely settled after the hard-fought mid-term elections and now both democrats and republicans are waging war in their own parties for power. that includes strong challenges for nancy pelosi. david curley has more from washington. >> reporter: the parties are over and now the parties are battling among themselves. republican euphoria tempered

>> alan: san francisco continues to bask in the afterglow of the giants' world series victory. it's boosting civic pride and the economy. beyond millions of dollars in direct spending delivered by two world series games, a spokeswoman says the exposure will deliver business to the city for some time to come. the mayor hopes software tycoon larry ellisson was watching the victory parade and will decide that san francisco should host the next america's cup. apple is warning about the iphone users that could cause the phone to be off an hour because of daylight savings time.

you can see the clearing right now. we bring you back home from the high definition east bay cam. a glimpse of the seth -- setting sun, and live doppler 7 hd picking up light rain showers. you can get a sense we're still seeing a little light rain around napa, american canyon, and richmond, the bridge, picking up a little light rain. that's heading over to the concord area in the next 15-20 minutes, and san hoe sea, -- san jose, a little rain there. temperatures right now, generally in the 50s. and with the clearing tonight, it's going to be a cold, chilly night, especially in the north bay. showers will be ending. watch for patchy fog. dry, breezy day monday, and then we bring in another chance of showers possibly as soon as tuesday night, mainly in the

north bay. once those clouds move on out of here, temperatures will drop. napa getting down to 42, 44 for santa rosa. san francisco, 47 degrees. 42 for livermore, and 48 for morgan hill. you can see how quickly the cold front moves through, still bringing snow to higher sierra range, and you can see the frontal band right here, and it will push on towards the south. we'll see the clearing take place from north bay to south bay, and speaking of the sierra, we have a winter weather advisory, two to three inches expected before the 7,000-foot level. and snow levels will be coming down, and chain controls on highway 50. here's a look at the highs for monday as the wet weather moves on towards the south. look for the clearing, 63 for san jose. 54 for campbell. at the coast, 58. the breeze will pick up tomorrow afternoon. half moon bay, 58.
