>> alan: fears spirits -- spirits are high for fishermap tonight. at midnight the boats begin hauling crab in a fishery that stretches from point arena to point conception. we're live at fisherman's wharf where they're anticipating the biggest catch in four years. >> reporter: commercial crab season is seven hours away. there are lots of crab boats just waiting to go out and begin a harvest they believe will be a bumper harvest this year. they're also waiting for a test of the first catch to make sure

it meets their quality standards. the sound of crab being cracked and served is heard throughout the area. san francisco known for the delicacy and locals and tourists come here to feast. >> i'm a crab addict for sure. if i lived in san francisco i would be here every day. >> reporter: these fishermap are ready to supply the needs of nip who wants fresh crab for thanksgiving. boats are beginning to fill the docks and piers. crab season launches at 12:01 a.m. the recent they're -- reason they're docked is due to the weather. >> they're giving them day before they set the gear. >> reporter: 35 miles-per-hour winds and 14-foot swells, another issue holding the locals back is whether the crab are as good as the sports fisherman say they are. >> all indications are the

resource is healthy, the size of the crabs are large. >> reporter: as in washington state and oregon, this season crab are being tested before allowing the boats to trap them. >> there's some areas that were questionable about the quality, and they want to make sure the crabs are good. >> reporter: there are always some areas where there are lower quality crab, and fisherman avoid that to ensure a quality catch. the this executive chev chef is convinced he will be able to provide a quality meal. >> they're coming in large and with dense meat. >> reporter: fisherman are happy with the 1.75 price per pound this season. >> last year crab fisherman only brought in a little over one million pounds of crab. that's far short of the almost five million pounds over the

past five or so years on average. so they hope to get somewhere back to normal. abc-7 news. >> alan: a ray of hope tonight for a san francisco city college nursing student set to be detorted tomorrow. the san francisco chronicle is reporting that lee's attorney said federal immigration authorities will not send him back to peru for now. house speaker nancy pelosi and dianne feinstein have been pressuring immigration officials to delay the plan. lee is being held at a federal detention facility in arizona. he came to the u.s. at age 12 and didn't know about his illegal immigration status until recently. the decision could still be reversed. in san jose, investigators say they do not believe foul play was involve in the death of a woman found floating in the guadalupe creek. authorities recovered the body around 6:00 last night in the water near julian street at

highway 87. police believe the unidentified woman was a transient in her 40s. the santa clara county medical examiner is still trying to figure out how she died. oakland police are still trying to determine the identity of a man found unconscious with a severe head injury near lake merritt. police say it's unclear if the man fell to the pavement or was attacked by someone. tonight, he is in critical condition. in fairfield, police believe a man suspected in a double homicide might be headed toward mexico. detectives say the suspect is 50-year-old ricardo martinez. witnesses say martinez waited for his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend to return home on sad morning and then he opened fire on him. yet a s.w.a.t. team surrounded a home where they thought martinez might be hiding. police believe he is drive a

>> alan: we have breaking news in san francisco, cable car operator was stabbed near china town this afternoon. it happened just over an hour ago. the operator was rushed to san francisco general hospital. there is no word on his or her condition. police have arrested one man. we'll have more on this breaking news story at 6:00. finally, researchers will be out tomorrow trying to figure out why more than 10,000 jelly fish washed up on ocean beach. the jelly fish appeared yesterday morning. today, few, if any, remain. they washed back to sea with the tide on monday. a park service biologist will begin an investigation into why so many washed ashore at once. a large
