>> alan: good evening. u.s. government leaders are in damage control mode tonight following the release of about a quarter million secret documents by wikileaks. the web site turned over the documents to five major news agencies. some of the topics include curbing iranys nuclear program, washington's attempts to remove enriched our rain from from pakistan, and discussions between the u.s. and south korea on the possible collapse of north core arch leading to a unified company, and incentives

u.s. offered to foreign governments to persuade them to take prisonerrers from guantanamo bay. a chinese contact told the american embassy in beijing said the attack on googles system in general was generated by the chinese government. goggle says it is not able to comment. john hendron has more reaction. >> one foreign minister called it the september 11th of world dip employment -- diplomacy. on sunday, news organizations posted cables online. the white house and the pentagon immediately condemned the actions as reckless and dangerous. >> leaking the material is deplorable. i a agree that the people at wikileaks could have blood on their hand. >> while much includes private communication about foreign

countries, the substance differs from previous leaks. the latest documents present no apparent blockbuster revelations but will certainly poison diplomatic rapport, put operatives at risk,. wikileaks is run by a self-appointed whistle-blower, who has refused multiple requests to stop die vumging -- divulge the information. >> it is deeply, deeply, personally satisfying to me. >> like the iraq documents, the caibles are believed to come from 22-year-old army intelligence specialist bradley macwho was arrested in july and remains in military custody. >> alan: despite threats from north korea, the united states has begun military exercised with south korea. four days of joint naval military drills got underway in

the yellow sea. the exercise follows recent military engagements between north and south korea. senator john mccain says china needs to take political action to curb north korea's aggressive behavior. >> they could bring a north korean economy to its knees if they wanted to, and i cannot believe that the chinese should in mature fashion, not find it in their interests to restrain north korea. so far they are not. >> alan: china is north korea largest trading partner and is calling for the resumption of the six party talks. north korea says it's not the time to restart the negotiations, which were put on hold in 2008. korean immigrants who call the bay area home are watching closely as tensions escalate in their homeland. many are upset that not enough is being done to stop north koreas aggression. cecelia vega is live in oakland.

>> reporter: there are an estimated 150,000 korean americans living here in the bay area, many still have family in their homeland. as tensions on the korean peninsula grow tonight so does their concern for their family's safety. korean immigrants pass the oakland korean d packed the church just as they do every sunday. they came to give thanks at the end of this holiday weekend. but their minds and their prayers were focused on their homeland. >> i think it's act of evil, and we're going to have to stand to drive out the regime. >> many in the growing korean community are critical of their native south korean government. they say it has been weak, passive, and allowed tensions with the north to escalate. >> we must stand strong against north korea, we have too much

generous to them. >> reporter: stand strong, even if it results in an all-out war. >> oh, yeah, strongly. must abolish north korea. >> reporter: oakland can't john lee was born in north korea and immigrated south when he was young. >> this is something the u.s. and south korea should stand up and say, enough is enough. >> reporter: he monitor korean news for the latest updates, and hopes china and the united states help south korea make a serious military show of force. he says war is not the answer. >> no, there shouldn't be any war, because i've gone through that myself, and during the korean war, i lost my entire family. i don't want that to happen to anybody. >> reporter: he says he has half sister in north korea he has not seen or heard from in more than half a century. john lee says he knows what is at stake here.

live this evening in oakland. abc-7 news. >> alan: there are new developments in the case of a somali born teenager accused of trying to bomb the annual tier-lighting ceremony in portland, oregon. a fire this morning in the mosque where the suspect worshiped may be arson. parts of the build wrging were destroyed. the 19-year-old suspect is in federal custody after fbi agents say they gave him fake explosives and convinced him to bomb a crowded holiday gathering. he is set to appear in court tomorrow. here in the bay area, police are investigating the attempted rape of a woman in palo alto. it happened thursday morning but we're just now learning detapes. investigators say the victim was walking on alma street when a man push her down and pulled her pants off. the woman fought him and ran.

>> a number of bay area drunk driving arrests is up this holiday weekend. from wednesday evening through this morning, officers made 249 arrests, as compared to 207 for the same period last year. statewide numbers are up. however, the chp says there have been no fatalities so far this weekend. this week the u.s. supreme court is set to decide whether federal judges have the authority to fix california's overcrowded prison system. last year, federal court ruled that california must release nearly 40,000 inmates. they found that overcrowding is so severe it violates the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment. that plan called for release of lo-level nonviolent offenders, and sending others to out of state prisons. state officials argue the federal court has overstepped its authority. 18 states have joined california claiming similar records --

>> alan: the latest numbers showed the holiday shopping season is getting off to a respectable start. shoppers came out in larger numbers than last year and traffic was steady through the weekend. according to preliminary figures

from shortstop track, retailers saw a slight .3 increase in revenue on black friday. online, spending rose more than 14% from thanksgiving day to saturday. online retailers are hoping to get an additional boost tomorrow. cyber monday is traditionally their biggest day of the year. there's been another otter attack in south florida. this may sound like a joke but the animal could be a real danger to residents and their pets. we have this report. >> reporter: it seemed almost friendly at first. but four feed of cuddly turned to blood-curdling. [screaming] >> reporter: she -- he was legend out of his home so the used the cell phone to film the neighborhood otter.

he swam away, then hooked a u turn. >> just ran after me and bit me. >> reporter: it's part of a series of three mysterious otter attacks in two days in south florida. a mile away an otter attacked this golden retriever name chester. >> whatever is going on has me baffled. >> reporter: he says it could be -- >> an otter that was captive and was released and doesn't know better. >> reporter: it could also be a mother protecting her cub, or more dangerous, rabid otter. one of those almost killed a man. a good sam marry -- samaritan tried to pry the critter off and explain himself to a 9-1-1 prater. >> who has him? >> an otter, o-t-t-er-are. please her.

>> alan: another busy day for bay area airports. the thanksgiving holiday almost over, and today hundreds of thousands of americans are flying home. officials at san francisco international airport say things are running smoothly so far today but the airport is expected to get busier this evening. sfo is projecting a 4% increase in thanksgiving holiday travel compared to last year. about 115,000 people were expected to use the airport today. in the sierra, ski row -- resorts are hoping for a banner year. many opened early and with more lifts. this is heavenly mountain resort. other tahoe area resorted

so clear and cold tonight. expect inland frost. a little warmer as we head into monday and tuesday, and then as we head into wednesday, thursday, friday, the showers will return to the bay area. you can see the nice clearing we had today. thanks to those gusty northwest winds, cleared us out and brought in the cool temperatures for us as well today. tonight, though, we dip down below the freezing mark in many lotion locations so 29, santa rosa, 41 for san francisco, and remember to cover the plants, bring the pets in, and just make sure you're okay out there. here's a look at the satellite radar. high pressure continuing to build in. it's really pushing the storm track to the north of us so as we head into monday and tuesday, the next few days, it will remain dry under high pressure and also it will help to warm us
