15-year-old cousin who lives here in the city. the cousin was shopping, saw her missing relative and called the police. 15-year-old jean disappeared from her redding home, the same day her uncle, also disappeared. 44-year-old charles burling. police say 'jean seemed relieved to see them today. >> she was kind of shocked upon our arrival. and briefly detained the suspect, was shocked and said, oh, no, we knew something was wrong. they also provided us different names. subsequently the cousins came back and gave in the true identity of the abductor and the victim. >> reporter: a third person was with jean and charles today. police have detained him.

they don't know his involvement. all three of them are here at the police station in the mission district, waiting for investigators from redding to arrive. abc-7 news. >> alan: and we had some heavy fog around the bay area today. late show you what we want toured -- captured this afternoon. the fog cleared this evening. however, a dense fog advisory is in effect. for more on that, let's go to leigh glaser. >> leigh: let's take a look at the closeup satellite. we have higher pressure building in, and high pressure brings the sinking air. so the fog is very close to the surface. also quite a bit of central valley fog. and that high pressure is bringing a slight offshore wind and that's helping to drag the fog towards the ocean. clearly we have some fog near the coast as well. so, here's a look at current visibility for you.

ten miles in santa rosa, and drops off towards sfo. seven miles. four miles, half moon bay. five mile in oakland. four in concord, and that dense fog advisory is in effect for the bay area, especially the inland valley areas, until 9:00 tomorrow morning, with visibility drping below a quarter of a mile. at it a no-burn day tomorrow, a winter "spare the air" is in effect for your sunday. we will take a look at the forecast coming up. >> alan: there are currently no weather delays at any of the bay area's three international airports. an employee at napa state hospital is in serious condition tonight after being aattend by a -- attacked by a patient. lisa amin gulezian reports this is the second attack in four days. >> it's dangerous, and we are losing control. we have lost control. >> reporter: those who work at napa state hospital say it's like being in a war zone, where

staffers are constantly facing off against patients. on wednesday, a custodian was beaten unconscious, and this morning, a rehabilitation therapist, or r. t., was attacked. >> the same person that committed the crime against the custodian was out with the r. t., the r. t. was beat up by this patient that beat up the custodian the other day. >> reporter: the patient is in the napa county jail, charged with two assaults. these attacks come two months after the murder of donna gross, her accused killer is jess massey. >> we have been under heightened alertness over what happened to donna, and all i remember is they're doing their best to remove themselves from any situation that could be potentially fatal or dangerous. >> reporter: flowers were placed on the front lawn as a reminder of the october 2nd october 2nd strangulation.

staffers hope that will remind management of the safety concern they continue to have on the job. hospital management would not speak with us on camera, but released this statement, quote: napa state hospital immediately added additional measures for escorting patients about the grounds. the incident will continue to be investigated by hospital police. employees who want to remain anonymous, tell me management's statement is misleading. starting today, the ray show transport a patient is now 2-1, but that means taking staffers from other departments, leaving their units unmanned. >> i'm scared. >> reporter: recently staffers were given these new personal alarms alarms to wear at work. the victims were wearing them at the time of the attacks, but it's not clear if they went off. lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> alan: back to the second abduction, detectives from

virginia are questioning a man accused of abducting another girl and bringing her here. brittani smith vanished a week ago from roanoke, virginia, where her mother was murdered. yesterday, the suspect, jeffrey easily, was spotted in san francisco with brittani and was arrested. the detectives are preparing to extradite easily, who is facing charges in connection with smith0s an abduction. >> as far as the murder charge, that's something you have to consult with the commonwealth attorney on. >> alan: police say they were seen pan-handling outside a seasonway store in ocean beach. a shopper who saw a report on television recognized them and called police. police say easily told them he came to san francisco after it showed up on a google search as the best place to be homeless. detectives will be taking brittany home.

u.s. coast guard has called off the search for a man who reportedly fell off a boat last night. the coast guard began searching richardson bay after a woman told them a man had fallen overboard and was not wearing a life jacket. the coast guard says the chances of fining the man alive in these chilly waters are slim. san francisco is facing a sudden deadline in its bid to host the america's cup yacht race. the golden gate yacht club sent a letter to city officials saying san francisco will lose the right to host he next america's cup unless an agreement between the city and yacht club is signed by friday. the host gets to choose the location of the next race. a board of suns or -- supervisors are meeting on monday.

abc news. raleigh, north carolina. >> alan: former alaska governor sarah palin has arrived in haiti as part of a humanitarian mission. haiti is trying to overcome a postelection violence and cholera epidemic of this year's earthquake. she is expected to visit the haitian capital and stop by cholera treatment centers. demonstrators gathered outside the british embassy in spain today to protest the tee tension of wikileaks founder julian assange. protestors held black cards saying, free julian, and truth now, and they also chanted freedom of speech, and free assange. assange is accused of sex crimes in sweden. he remains in a british jail awaiting extradition hearing. protestors were also upset about the closure of wikileaks' swiss bank accounts. >> a confidential u.s. report

says the captain and crew of an american airlines flight were briefly detained in venezuela back in 2008. it happened after a crew member announced the passengers to reset their watches to local chavez time. in 2007, president hugo chavez created a new time zone for venezuela, moving the clack back a half hour. a supporter of chavez happened to be on board and misheard the word local for loco, which is spanish for contracts. the crew was released and the airline offer apologies. santa makes an early stop in oakland to help kids. and weather conditions expected to create some unhealthy air. leigh coming up next to tell you more about that. >> mike: the 2010 heisman trophy just handed out. i was four-man race with andrew luck in the hunt. will it be

this visibility starting to go down. a half mile visible in napa. novato, two miles. two and a half miles in concord. livermore has improved. the fog has moved over to concord. they're at ten miles. half moon bay, the coastalling too very dense at three-mile visibility. temperatures right now generally in the mid-50s. 55-san rafael. 58 fremont. 61 in san jose. 57 in livermore. some of the highs today where the fog wasn't sitting in the mid-to-upper 60s. so we're quite mild under the hazy sunshine across the bay area. dense fog advisory in effect for the bay area until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, sun and fog mixed tomorrow. looks like the fog will scour out sooner, so we're looking for warmer temperatures, and by the way, tomorrow is a winter "spare the air" day. which means no burning

fireplaces as unhealthful air quality will be with us for sunday. here's a look at lows. in the 50s. mid-to-low 50s. san francisco, the peninsula and the bay. dropping down a little bit in the north bay. napa, 48. antioch, 50. the fog is going to be a monster tonight. 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, just sitting here in the coast and the bay, and then that central valley fog, a little bit of an east wind, and that fog in the central valley, going to push it towards the bay and the coast. livermore right now, an easterly wind at 3 miles-per-hour. may not seem like much but with all this fog gathering to the east of us, just a little bit of wind and that's really going to migrate back towards the west. and it's all because of the high pressure set up off the coast that is pushing the jet stream and storm track to the north of us and bringing us those offshore winds and that's picking up the fog and movinged towards the coast. it will be in place one more day. by monday night and
