>> alan: good evening, everyone. we're learning more about the cross-country abduction of a 1-year-old -- 12-year-old girl that ended here in san francisco. we spoke with investigate jurors a relative of the young girl. >> reporter: investigators held a press conference here a little while ago. they're not saying much today other than that they did spoke to brittany today and the man accused of kidnapping her. i did speak with an aunt of brit now who said she was so concerned about jeffrey easley and the relationship he had with

her cease she called child protective services in virginia four times after she met him. roanoke detectives spent the day at san francisco's haul of justice, interviewing brittany smith and the man accusedded of kidnapping here in virginia and driving her across the country. >> now that she has been found and will be headed back to roanoke soon the roanoke county police department's focus has shifted to the murder investigation. >> reporter: police say jeffrey easley is a suspect in the murder of brittany's mother tina smith found dead last week in her virginia home. some say tina and easley were romantically involved. but today there was no light shed on the cross-country journey or the motive for it. >> we don't want anything to jeopardize the case and the investigation back in roanoke and it's very important that we get justice for tina smith's family.

>> reporter: brittany's aunt told us she met easley for the first time on thanksgiving and was immediately suspicious about the way he acted toward the girl. >> he was touching her hair touching her hands, and just anything that -- it was like he wanted to consumer her. it was just gross. >> reporter: she says she called child protective services multiple times the following day and never heard back. surveillance video from a wal-mart shows the last time brittany and easley were seen on december 3rd buying camping gear. police beef in san francisco they lived in an encampment near ocean beach. they panhandled in front of this season and that's where a wore saw them -- a woman saw them and called police. the family say they're relieved that brittany is coming home.

>> lives in a different world than most people. tina thought everybody was okay and everything was going to be all right. >> reporter: as of yesterday brittany remained here in san francisco in protective custody. police saying much about her today. police are not also saying when she will be reunited with her father who is a virginia police officer, or when jeffrey easley will be extradited back to virginia. >> alan: another missing girl found in san francisco has been reunited with her family in regd. police had been searching since last month for jean berlinghoff and her uncle, charles berlinghoff. the girl's cousin who lives in san francisco, spotted the pair by chance yesterday. she noticed them in a parked car. she and her boyfriend watched them from a distance until police arrived. the family thinks charles berlinghoff convinced his niece to leave home with him.

the girl is doing fine. in vacaville, 14-year-old boy is under arrest after police say he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl and then stabbed her more than 30 times and also stand her 18-month-old brother more than ten times. both victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition but they're expected to survive. police say the suspect broke into their home at 2:30 this morning. the girl escaped with her brother, and the police found the suspect sleeping inside the house. the suspect is a friend of the victim's older brother. frightening car accident today. two adults escaped a burning car that flipped over on the san mateo bridge. the car was traveling end when it overturned when the east and westbound barriers and caught on fire. >> both adults were subsequently able to get out of the vehicle. the vehicle was fully involved.

blocking the number one lane on the westbound side of the traffic. >> alan: for a short time the chp closed the westbound lanes and traffic hip -- behind the crash had to be turned around to get off the bridge. one victim was airlifted to san jose. in brentwood a police officer had to be hospitalized after a fight with a driver. the incident happened around 2:00 this morning when the officer stopped a vehicle in a parking lot on walnut boulevard. the driver and a passenger fled. the officer chased the driver into an aleyway where the two vowinged and the suspect got away but was arrested hours later. the officer suffered a head injury but was released today. it's been a weekend of violence in oakland with at least one person shot dead and six others wounded in three unrelated incidents. the latest shooting happened this morning at 82nd avenue

and birch street. police found at least 24 bullet casings sprayed across the intersection. police are still searching for the suspects. last night in east oakland, a 19-year-old man was killed and three people shot on international boulevard between 90th and 92nd avenue. one of those wound was a 32-year-old woman who police believe was aby stander waiting for a bus. >> four hours later police say there was shootout between rival gangs on broadway and 12th in oakland. a 19-year-old man and a 14-year-old bystander were wounded. one of the suspected gunmen was arrested. that's three shootings since august. >> the pressure is on this week for san francisco to present its bid to host the america's cup race in 2013. the golden gate yacht club says

>> alan: a cop white house adviser is predicting that president obama controversial tax cut deal with republicans will pass congress by at the end of the year. the senate is set to take a test vote on the deal tomorrow. if nothing is done, income taxes for nearly all americans will good up on january 1st. we have more from washington. >> reporter: the tax deal faces it first important test monday in the senate, where it's expected to pass. >> we have a good cross-section of the senate democratic caution from -- caucus from left to

no match to the snow that had minneapolis sock in. >> overweighting of certain panels caused the fabric to rupture. >> reporter: the worst job in the midwest. the workers are shoveling snow off the top of the metrodome, doing it in zero degree weather but the wind is blowing and feels like 21 below. residents are bearing up and digging out. in the culprit is a mammoth storm, sprawling 1500 mails from the planes to the great lakes and all the way to the gulf of mexico. high winds and snow up to two feet have turned many places into no-go zones. hundreds of flights were cap -- cancelled. near whiteout conditions made travel a gamble, closing road in five states. this is minnesota's biggest

snowfall in 20 yeemples portions of interstate 90 were shut done overnight in wisconsin cars were chased from the highway, leaving snow plows to do their work. >> alan: i still can't get enough of watching that metrodome collapse. >> leigh: amazing. we have the fog all day. >> alan: oh, yeah. >> leigh: in most neighborhoods. >> alan: a few spots of sunshine. >> leigh: those towards san jose saw a little more sunshine than folks in novato and san rafael. it was just overcast all day long. and you can see some of the fog that is still there near the coast. this is from our high definition mount tamalpais camera. you can see a little setting sun as well. temperaturewise, stuck in the fog, obviously only in the 50s. elsewhere, some locations, such as san jose managed the low 60s today. 56 san francisco.

58 napa. fairfield, reduced visibility, less than two miles there, as the fog is really close to the surface. 55 in livermore. 59 in san jose. here's a look at highlights for you. we continue with areas of dense fog overnight. probably not as widespread as the past several nights. becoming cloudy tomorrow, and then the showers return on tuesday, a stronger series of storm moves in the latter part of the work week. this is the central valley fog and the high pressure over us and the winds, pick up the fog and placing it or moving it towards the bay area. and that was the case today. this kole front sitting off the front will scour a lot of that out by tomorrow afternoon. lows tonight, we may see a peak of clearing here and there. 40s to the north and east bay. mid-to-low 50s around the bay as well as the coast. a little high pressure tomorrow.

it will give way to this next cold front. the clouds will thicken up tomorrow, and this will scour out the fog for us. by tuesday, we look for scattered showers. overnight tonight, pockets of dense fog. by tomorrow morning overcast, but you can see that cold front by tomorrow night, will make its way across the bay area by tuesday morning commute time see some scattered showers, and that will play out all through the day on tuesday, highs tomorrow 63, san jose. cooler at the coast. half moon bay 58. may see a little hazy sunshine and then the clouds move in late in the day. 58 for san francisco. 62 in santa rosa. napa 62. 62 for oakland and union city. inland locations, may see the fog scour out sooner so brentwood may manage 63-degree.

>> alan: coming up in a half hour at 6:00, with the friday deadline looming, a city other than san francisco makes a last-minute bid to host america's cup. and plans for a big hotel at the site of its proposed 49er stadium in santa clara. there's no need to head to the sierra to play in the snow. there's know right at the civic center plaza. all part of the food bank holiday food drive. the city made the first-ever snow park, complete with a snow run, and you can see by the looks on their faces it was a thrill and even special appearances by frosty the snowman, and the man himself santa claus. what a party that was. great day
