good evening, everyone. plans to bring the americas cup to san francisco has hit some rough waters. organizers of the sailing race are not happy with the city's latest offer and now they are ready to walk away from the deal entirely. they are giving the city a friday deadline. lilian kim is live in san francisco and there saw lot of money riding on this. >> the america's cup is expected to generate a billion dollars so there is a lot at stake. organizers of the next

america's cup has had it with san francisco leaders. so much so, the chief operating officer fired off a letter to city hall saying he wants a deal by friday. if not, then, quote, san francisco will have given up a unique opportunity to host the 34th america's cup. >> if they don't like it they can delay the america's cup. >> negotiations were smooth sailing until city leaders began changing key elements of the bid. originally the proposal concentrated on the central water front. the area south of the bay bridge. race organizers would pay to shore up dilapidated piers and get long-term leases to several par sals. but the city leaders changed to the northern waterfront. the proposal requires less public property and cheaper up front costs. >> it is a far superior viewing experience for spectators. a lot of the facilities are much closer to being ready for the america's cup.

>> race organizers say there is not enough long-term development prospects and now they are ready to walk. quite a turn around from earlier this year. san francisco was the front-runner to host the america's cup after the oracle ceo's bmw oracle's racing team won in february. it is up to the winning team to choose the venue. but despite all of the tough talk, he is confident san francisco will prevail. >> i negotiated a number of deals. i think we need to keep our eyes on the prize and this prize is to make sure it is as strong as possible and we protect the interest of the city. >> the board will vote on the proposal. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> thanks, lilian. a south korean fishing boat has gone down in the

antarctic ocean. tonight 17 are still missing. it happened about 1400 miles south of new zealand around dawn rough seas are hampering rescue time. the survival time is 10 minutes without life jackets. there is no word on what caused the 614-ton boat to sink. in vacaville, a 14-year-old boy was arrested for assaulting a 13-year-old girl and stabbing her. he also stabbed her 18-month-old brother 10 times. both are in critical condition, but are expected to survive. police say the suspect broke into their home around 2:30 this morning. the girl escaped with her brother and salon solano county s.w.a.t found him sleeping in the master bedroom of the house. >> very unusual. tells me he was on something. >> we are awaiting tests to see if he was under the

influence of anything. >> the suspect is a friend of the victim's older brother, and they are still trying to figure out the motive for the attack. two separate child abduction cases ended safely in san francisco this weekend. a 12-year-old girl from roanoke, virginia and a 15-year-old from redding, california are safe. the 12-year-old was found on friday and today cecilia vega learned more about her cross country ordeal. >> britney smith ease aunt told abc7 she met jeffrey easily for the first time on thanksgiving and was suspicious about the way the 32-year-old man acted with her 12-year-old niece. >> he was touching her hair and touching her hands and it was like he wanted to consume her with his eyes. it was gross. >> lois said she called child protective services and a child abuse hotline four times the following day and never heard back. she also called the girl's mother to express concern.

>> that's when i said he lives there? and she said yes, but he is moving out jie. they met outside the hall of justice after interviewing britney and the man accused of kidnapping her and driving cross country. >> now that she has been fined and headed back to roanoke soon. the police department's focus has shifted to the murder investigation. >> easily is also a suspect in the murder of britney's mother, tina smith, found dead last week in her virginia home. family members say easily and tina smith were romantically involved and moved in with her and britney in october. but if during the day's interviews they shed light on the cross country journey, investigators are not saying. >> we don't want anything to jeprodize the case and the investigation back in roanoke. >> reporter: surveillance video shows the last time britney and easily were seen on december 3rd buying camping

gear. police believe in san francisco they lived in an encampment. they panhandled outside this safe bay, and that's where a woman recognized them on friday and called police. police will not say when britney will be reunited with her father who is a virginia police officer. they are also not saying when easily is expected to be extradited back to virginia. reporting from san francisco police headquarters, cecilia vega, abc7 news. >> and the missing girl from redding was reunited with her family. they were searching for gene burlingoff and her uncle. he is accused of abducting her. the girl's cousin who lives in san francisco spotted the pair by chance yesterday. she noticed them in a parked car. they watched from a distance until police arrived. the family thinks he convinced his niece to leave home with

him. tomorrow the senate will vote on a tax cut deal negotiated between president obama and republican leaders. it is expected to pass the gnat, but it will be a tougher sell in the house. if passed it will extend all benefits and will supply $400 billion in tax cuts and credit to stimulate the economy. republicans are in the driver's seat because they are about to take control of the house next month. >> we are not interested in changing this deal. we are interested in passing this through. >> today with the majority in the house and the majority in the senate and we are acting like it is a week hand. >> while democrats oppose changes to the state tax, they are confident it will pass by the end of the year. the president says he compromised to head off an until tax increase for nearly all-americans come january 1st. the roof on the minneapolis metrodome collapsed. and the cameras were rolling

factors lead to what i believed was an unsafe situation. so we moved our people from the roof. at that point we were unable to make headway on the situation. >> they are going to try again this morning before the roof caved in around 5:00 a.m. blizzard conditions forced the nfl to shift the minnesota vikings game against the giants to detroit's ford field tomorrow. here you can see the before picture on top and a picture of the collapsed roof taken just below. the same blizzard is lashing its way across the midwest. winter advisories are issued in 30 states and hundreds of flights have been cancelled. the minneapolis saint paul airport is one of three that was temporarily shut down. but it is back up and running tonight. near whiteout conditions made travel a gamble closing roads in five states. this is the heaviest snowfall in almost 20 years.

fedex workers are getting rest. tomorrow is expected to be the busiest day of the year. they expect to process 16 million packages worldwide. that's a 13% increase from the busiest day last year. both fedex and the ups expect it to be higher than last year. and this year marx the 50th anniversary of the laser. the man who invented it turned 95 years old today. but he goes to work every day at uc berkeley to work with lasers. richard hart reports on the drive to discover one of the greatest inventions of all time. >> i am still very pleased. of course it is so common now i don't marvel every time i see one. >> he was a marvel. he invented the predecessor to the laser, the maser, when the idea struck him. >> i worked on it and nothing worked. i went out to the park and

more resolution we can get. >> something impossible that keeps the telescopes aligned precisely. something he worked out half a century ago. so why isn't he enjoying retirement? >> i never worked in all my life. people paid me well. >> richard hart, abc7 news. and another kind of spectacular light show is taking place tonight. you can see it in the sky. the meteor shower is one of the biggest of the year. it started today and it will last for at least four days with the peak happening on tuesday at 3:00 a.m. that's of course if the skies are clear and you are willing to stay awake for that long. now to leigh glaser. will we be able to see it? >> yeah, i don't know how clear the sky will be. we have a cold front that is moving in. and what that is doing is helping to scour out some of the dense fog that has been

with us all week long. the fog from the high definition rooftop cam is a little higher than the past several days. as this gets closer to the bay area, you will have to mix things a little more so. that will also mean the return of rain to the bay area. we will continue with areas of dense fog. increasing clouds for monday. by the way, monday night and tuesday it will return to the bay area. a little bit of a break midweek, and then more rape heavy at times toward the latter part of the workweek. you can see all of the central valley fog. the high pressure is starting to weaken and they have been bringing the central valley fog and pushing it toward the bay area. we have seen little clearing in the north bay and the south bay saw some sunshine. temperatures are near 70 degrees toward the monterey bay. we will continue with some fog over need tonight.

temperature wise in the miz to up -- to the midand upper 40s and temperatures in the mid to low 50s. now, here is a look at the cold front. already we are seeing clouds moving into the bay area. you can see the rain around the north coast. this thing will slowly drag itself across the bay area overnight monday night and throughout the day on tuesday. not a strong system. a little bit of a break for our wednesday time frame. check out this plume of moisture. this is what will march in here as we head toward thursday, friday and saturday. live doppler 7hd is picking up some of the rain up along the north coast. they have it right on for that rain band throughout the course of tomorrow. we will look for thickening clouds by tomorrow afternoon. we will see some of that rain start to sag slowly toward the north bay communities and monday night and early tuesday morning, that's when the rain will start to move across the

entire bay area. by 3:00 tuesday afternoon we will look for a sloppy commute. highs for monday will be increasing clouds and low 60s for san jose. at the coast, mid to upper 50s. overcast skies, 63 palo alto. san francisco, 58. in the north bay, pockets of fog. increasing clouds and maybe a rain drop late in the day as the front gets closer. oakland 62 and east bay, livermore and brentwood, overcast. 63 degrees and looking for 67 and sunshine toward watsonville. check out the accu accu-weather seven-day forecast, very unsettled. showers for us on tuesday. a slight break on wednesday and thursday. a chance on thursday and then we head into friday, saturday and sunday. periods of rain all three days. could be heavy at times. we'll keep you updated on that. >> it is hard to believe, but the raiders and 49ers are still in the playoff race.

december, you want to be one of the nfl teams that still has a shot at the post season. the 49ers playoffs began today with a must win against the seahawks. they played the best game of the season. alex smith back in the saddle and also a great stop. hits vernon davis and he will do the rest. 42 yards to the house. then in the second, alex swings one out to josh morgan. i wore that jersey, but never looked that good in it. josh dances his way in 20-749ers. later in the second and alex reads it and finds westbrook. where has he been? he's gone. alex threw for 255 yards and three scores and no picks,
