show you where light rain was been following. we have light rain oregon -- over highway 1 on the coast. and along the peninsula, some pockets in san mateo and half moon bay, fairly triat this point right now. and we'll find more light rain along the coast on highway 1 down to santa cruz. we do have some dry days ahead. some moderate rain on its way before that. i will tell you how long it will explas -- it will last and when we get a break. >> developing news in san francisco. a man shot multiple times in the tenderloin this afternoon. it happened at 3:30 p.m. outside a bar on turk and taylor street. the victim is between 30 and 40 years old. has been taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police are looking for a man in

his 20's who fled the steam. >> oakland police are investigating the city's first deadly shooting of the year. happened nine minutes after midnight. investigators say the victim may have been attending a party. one person believed to be 17, was killed. three other men were taken to the hospital. they're expected to recover. police have not released the identity of any of the victims. no word on a motive or suspect in this case. oakland actually saw a 15% drop in homicide in 2010 compared to the year before. officials say 95 people were killed last year. compared to 110 in 2001. -- 2009. the fourth straight year homicide have dropped, and the first time since 2005 that oakland reported fewer than 100 killings. oakland officials say there's been an overall 14% drop in all crimes, including robberies,

aggravated assault, auto thefted and are sons. >> president obama's controversial former minister, jeremiah wright, is in the east bay today to launch a movement in the african-american community. faith leaders have put together a plan for positive social change. lisa amin gulezian is live in berk live -- berk live we the service. >> we were denied access to pastor wright, but churches did commit to being part of the emancipation movement initiative. change will come to african-american communities in the bay area. >> this is important for us to wrap our minds around who we are as a people. >> the people of the baptist minister's union, or bmu, are committed to change. they say what's happening in many east bay african-american communities right now isn't ideal. >> as a community, we're not who we should be.

>> for some, their spirit is also broken, especially after crimes like the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in richmond, and the shooting death of an unarmed barber in oakland by police. >> the emancipation movement initiative encouraging economic development, education, and health and wellness, and it will be the churches' job to push these positive steps. >> this year we made it a point of emphasis to reach tout brothers, each out to pastors, women, anyone who is serving our community, to at least do these things. >> reporter: richmond city councilman says they need this initiative work. richmond's crime rate franked 14th high nest the country in

2005. >> for u.s. to make change, we have to believe we want to make change and so it's our responsibility to put things in focus. >> reporter: movement organizers hope having the support of reverend -- jeremiah write will happen. they invited president obama's former pastor and controversial religious leader to speak today. write started a similar action plan in chicago, but we were not allowed to film his speech or speak with him directly. wright did encourage people to act so pastors from the area will meet to figure out a schedule for the work shawps -- workshops on financial aide. lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> john: san jose police are searching for suspects. the victim was a local high school student. police responded to a shooting

in -- and found 15-year-old oscar gonzalez on the front poach -- porch of his home. the suspect is described as male wearing dark clothing, running east down the street. investigators believe it was back-related. >> the chp says the number of dui raveses was down, but the deadly accidents are up compared to last year. in the bay area, chp officers arrested 64 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. that's down from 92 arrests last year. there have been four fatal collisions in the bay area so far. there were none during the same period last year. >> whenever there's a fatal contract especially on news news, that means families are starting their new year planning a funeral for a loved one and that's a horrible feeling. >> the chp will continue its max ebb -- enforcement program

through midnight. chp investigating how a woman's body ended up on northbound 107. the body was found north of actually road. witnesses say at least three vehicles may have struck the body. investigators have not determined whether the woman was walken on the roadway or fell from the tully road overpass. >> 45 people are out of their homes after an early morning fire in downtown san francisco. the two alarm fire began around 1:30 a.m. at least four people were hurt, including a firefighter. crews rescued two people, who had fled to the roof of the adjacent building. the red cross has hoped a shelter for residents. it's unclear when they will be able to get back into their apartments. the state of california is beginning the new year with some new laws. starting today possession of an ounce or less of more marijuana

>> john: tornadoes have gotten the new year off to a deadly start. the sudden storms killed seven people in missouri and arkansas. dozens were injured, and many others have no place to call home. the national weather service says the tornado packed winds as high as 160-miles-an-hour. here's more. >> reporter: video posted caught one tornado as it struck in missouri. across the region, the new year begins in misery for many who must pull together the pieces of their lives. >> not mump we -- not much we can do with mother nature's fury. >> dozens of tornadoes crashed the holiday in five states, spreading death and destruction. >> my whole house start shaking. the windows started busting out, and then it was gone. >> the freak storm took residents by surprise. in this video, ominous crowds bore witness, then sirens wailed a warning, this woman and her

young son barely got out alive. >> some doors were laying on top of us and i managed to get them off me and screamed out for help from my neighbors. >> three people were killed in this small arkansas town of cincinnati. >> start looking for the other people that were missing, and we found everybody. unfortunately, it was not a good deal. >> reporter: the tornadoes, fueled by warm air, very up unusual this time of year, elsewhere, stormy weather continues. >> get out of the way! >> reporter: caused a 20-car pileup in colorado springs, which made for dangerous driving in iowa in california, they're digging out, too. mounds of mud instead of snow, and digging in for more rain on the way. >> john: just ahead, snow? napa county? that's exactly what happened overnight. we have more of these amazing pictures, and we're getting rain

>> john: highway 140 entrance to yosemite national park is back over after crews cleared a major rock slide. a 15-foot boulder fell from a cliff on the roadway. it blocked traffic from entering or exiting and hundreds of people were turned airport. -- turned away. it's yosemite's only all-weather roadway. all other roads are open. >> napa county residents woke up to three or four inches of snow

this is a live shot over downtown san jose, live doppler 7hd, you see the light green so some rain not quite reaching the ground. we have had light rained throughout the bay area. when the rain doesn't reach the ground, it's called verga, and we're seeing that as well in san francisco, it's 46. fairfield, 39. we're still hanging on to the 50s in redwood city, mountain view, and san jose. so basically the start of the new year is a washout through tomorrow. there's a weather advisory for tahoe. i'll tell you about that coming up. but some dry days ahead. starting on monday. this gives you a chance to put the umbrellas away. here's this upper level low, called an upper level low -- rather, this cutoff low, cuts off from the jet steam, so sinking south instead of moving east. it will continue to bring

moisture over the bay area through tomorrow. so you're going to need your umbrellas handy through then. here's a look at the forecast model, which shows light rain throughout the bay area. you see this yellow? light rain in san rafael and santa cruz, and the areas of pink and white, that's snow in lakeot. -- lake county. throughout the day we'll see sprinkles, bringing us a fourth of an inch, when all is said and done, and around 5:00 in the afternoon, rain around the bay area. doesn't clear out until overnight on monday, that's when we'll finally see a dry day. so we have this winter weather advisefully lake county, but the snow level is higher, closer to 2500 feet this time. 48 inches above 3,000 feet, and if you're heading interest tahoe you may want to hold off until you can.

there will be six to 12 inches at lake level, and up to a foot and a half above 7,000 feet. so going to be a tough drive back heading into the bay area. overnight lows pretty cool in the north bay, upper 30s for you. indian -- napa and vallejo, upper 40s. and for tomorrow, temperatures on the cool side once again. some upper 40s, low 50s, as we head further south and down towards monterey bay as well, low 50s. so here's a look at accuweather seven-day forecast. we have the wet day ahead. i know. you can't do your new year's walk. starting monday, i don't think we'll see much rain, and we've got dry days ahead. temperatures warming up next weekend to pray for that. >> john: thank you, francis. the day when america sits on the couch and watches bowl game. >> mike: pretty much. if you're into college football,
