>> it was an emotional day at the tucson safeway supermarket which re-opened exactly one week after a tragic shooting in a parking lot. a moment of silence was held at the time that last saturday brought a hail of bullets and ordinary citizens found themselves in the line of fire. >> we lost some innocence that day as a community. a grocery store for goodness sake. >> reporter: there was encouraging words from the doctors of gabrielle giffords, she is now breathing on her own without a ventilate for. grieving continued for the six two died in the shooting spree. there were two more memorial's for giffords' aide and phyllis schneck, and some of those who witnessed the killing or knew thegun man gathered for an abc special, set to air on sunday

january 16th. >> she was quite excited about making the -- they had it down. and unfortunately she never made it. >> i know you're not comfortable with the idea of being called a hero. >> that's correct. and i don't think any of us are. i think there were maybe heroic things done by normal people. that means we're human beings. and i think that's to me one of the most lasting impressions, is to see what people were doing for someone else. >> reporter: after the taping, sheriff's deputies arrest one of the shooting victims. 63-year-old james fuller. fuller was shot in the knee and back. he was arrested for reportedly making threats against a member of the tucson tea party during that town hall taping. >> seated in the front row and reportedly took a picture of trent humphreys and yelled

you're dead. he was arrested for disorderly conduct, and is now undergoing a mental health evaluation in the news room, abc-7 news. >> terry: the tucson shootings have re-ignited the always showering issue of gun owner rights. a topic of discussion at a gun show at the cow palace today but maybe not along the lines you expect. lisa amin gulezian was there. >> lisa: thousands filled the cow pal has to attend the crossroads of the west gun show. >> get a free ticket into the show. >> lisa: the same promoter is holding a gun show in tucson this weekend. we weren't allowed inside, but outside attendees lined up looking for deals. >> i already have weapons but i may be purchasing another one. >> lisa: one reaction to the shooting is a surge in gun sales. they have gone up in arizona and a few other states around the country, and word is spreading month second amendment

supporters about joe zamudo the open carrier who happened to be shopping nearby when the shooting started. he saw the gunman and another man struggling with the gun. at that point he didn't know who the shooter actually was. he chose not too fire his weapon, but instead hold both men down. he admits, in the chaos things could have gone terribly wrong. >> a bunk of people watching, and all those people watching seeing me pull a gun out, thing second shooter. and in arizona, where people keep guns the their cars somebody could have shot me. >> lisa: now gun owners insist he is a perfect example of why americans should have the choice to arm themselves. >> opening doors, you know basically saying people should have weapons in case something like this happens. >> lisa: gun control advpcates view the tucson attack as reasons for more regulation. members applaud california's new

state law which takes effect in february. it requires handgun ammunition be bought in person with i.d. and thumbprint for extra verification. senator mark leno backed the bill. >> we should be tracking who is purchasing ammunition, and we know the assailant in tucson last weekend walked into a store and bought magazine cases of 30 rounds or more. >> lisa: gun owners admit they're stocking up on ammo before the law kicks in. >> terry: san francisco police are looking for suspects in a fatal shooting this morning at the lookout point on top of twin peaks. the shooting was reported at 3:30 this morning following some sort of verbal dispute between two groups of people. a 23-year-old died of multiple gua witness who didn't want to be identified, said two or three suspects fled in a white honda as odd dizzy.

>> slammed the door shut, and just the fact that three shots fired, about.22 caliber. small-round fire. nothing loud. >> terry: anyone with information is asked to call san francisco police. a teenage boy was killed and two other people injured after gunfire broke out in a bay residential neighborhood. contra costa county sheriff's deputies say the shooting happened at 11:00 last night. officers found a 17-year-old boy lying outside a house with a gunshot wound. a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were treat ford minor injuries. so far there are no suspects. oakland mayor jean quan spent a second consecutive saturday walking through one of the toughest parts of the city. >> we're going to clean your parking lot, and we'd like you guys to clean it yourselves from here on out. >> terry: today, mayor quan, city officials and'll residents gathered to clean up litter and debris in east oakland. the mayor says the neighborhood

has been victimized by illegal dumping. >> we want the neighbors to help us catch those people so people stop using this neighborhood as a dumping ground. the difference is i'm not doing this for them. i'm helping them organize to keep it clean themselves. >> terry: the mayor's office has planned several other events in east oakland and those include installing new computers in an elementary school cleaning up a park and beautifying international plowstled. >> there are signs of healing in san bruno as one homeowner has filed plans to build a new house on one of 38 lots where homes were destroyed in the explosion. san bruno official said one family filed last week and could start rebuilding in the spring. another family also plans to rebuild and intends to file their plans in the coming weeks. the residents of a north beach apartment complex got a big pledge of support from san francisco mayor ed lee. he and superdivorce dave chu

toured the burped out apartment complex and got a look at the progress on reconstruction. it's an affordable housing building, struck by a fire, displacing 45 residents. they have been staying in temporary housing, and their lease said that assistant will continue. >> we don't leave people in stressful situations untouched by help from the city. >> terry: the promise to work with the buildings property owner and the building inspection department to ensure a quick recovery saying he understands the importance of affordable housing units. this is martin luther king's birthday, which is officially observed on monday. today was family day at the museum in san francisco. visitors got three free admission. there was plenty of fun and educational activities including a chance to make silk screen images of dr. king and

>> terry: there's a large military presence in tunisia tonight following massive protests. looters broke into shops and set fire the main train station. the situation has grown increasingly volatile as protestors complain about the lack of job and frequent civil rights violation the president ben-ali was forced out of office yesterday amidst accusations of corruption. [chanting] >> members of the san francisco few -- tunisian community celebrated the overthrow. they say it marks a milestone for democracy in the arab world. they demonstrated in front of city hall and criticized the police and military for using what they say is excessive force.

investigators say a broken gear caused the lift to stall. >> seniors and young people who ride san francisco's muni will get more type to -- time to switch over to the clipper cards. they will only offer discounts on clipper card. the deadline is extended until may to give riders more time to apply. the agency says it has issued almost 25,000 clipper cards to senior and 9,000 to youth. the card can can be bought at vending machines at the muni stations. leigh glaser is here, and i know what the canal says but as far as i'm concerned it's springtime. >> leigh: it was so warm today salinas, 75 degrees today. wasn't it nice? inland locations where the fog sat there only in the upper 40s to low 50s. here's a shot from our high definition cam in san freafnls clear sky out there right now. the fog sitting out towards the

del a -- delta and will creep back into the city tonight. san francisco, mid-60s there santa rosa, 70 degrees. the fog just sat. fairfield managed only 49. 50 in concord today. antioch, 53 degrees. and tonight that's when most of the fog will sit. we're 47 in concord right now. north bay, santa rosa, 60 degrees right now. patchy areas of dense fog overnight. another mild day tomorrow. most locations in the mid-60s, maybe some upper 60s, where the fall sits, temperatures are cooler, and then warmer monday and tuesday. we had north winds on the coast. east winds pushing the fog towards the delta and that's

exactly where it's sitting right now. overnight tonight, we continue to see the easterly winds just push off of that back towards the coast as well as the bay. could be a little bit thinner overnight tonight which means clearing a little sooner so i'm confident or hopeful, that is, that east bay locations will get a little bit more warming tonight. tonight, where the fog is 45. 46 for concord. san francisco, areas of fog as well 49. 47 for san jose. clear there tonight. here's the story. high pressure is building in. it's responsible for the north winds near the coast tonight. as it continues to build over the bay area that fog should start to then out in the next couple of days, which you can clearly see the storm track staying to the north, and looks like long-range forecast models are suggesting the high will stay with us for the next four to five days so no rain.

by penguins hatched over the past week. staff members say an african black-footed chick hatched another hatched on tuesday. both are doing well. the staff has set up a nest cam to monitor the chicks and that's the nest cam. that is not the penguin folks. i assure you. >> mike: i didn't know they were orange. >> terry: that's an aquarium worker. they're going to get it together and wore going to show you -- >> leigh: look at him.
